I'm a VERY conservative guy, but I must say the one issue I've seen conservative Americans become hysterical and nonsensical about has been the virus and masking up. I can't fathom how many of these folks I STILL talk to who either don't buy it at all or think it's a media conspiracy of "just a flu." "Only people in their 80's die from it!"

My wife has watched tons of people die from it, and I know people at work who have lost as many as FIVE family members from it! People in their 20's die from it, kids can die from it, and the biggest thing I just can't get into the heads of these folks is that death isn't even the main reason the world had to shut down and react so harshly! It's about NOT OVERWHELMING THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM! Imagine the death toll globally when all the hospitals have sick or dying nurses, doctors, and EMT's. Imagine the sheer scope of death you'd see when cardiac patients can't get surgery or stints put in because......the hospital bed are at capacity and too many doctors and nurses are out sick. Imagine how many cancer patients wouldn't receive chemotherapy and surgery, how many appendectomies that wouldn't happen, how many patients who SHOULD go to the hospital but wouldn't because of COVID. The potential for health care infrastructure shut-down was tremendous with this virus, and yet these people keep up the Jewish space lasers stuff.

I'm truly at a point in my life where I'm all-out disgusted. On the left we have idiots telling me that you can have a men's genitals and be a woman. We have the left celebrating obesity like it's just amazing. We have the left jumping for joy at race divisions and rioting and cancel culture. The left adores aborting babies and basking in chaos. They're atheists and they want to watch the world burn. Then you have the right wingers who create fake internet memes attributing quotes to Abraham Lincoln and Mark Twain and Hitler that are patently absurd and BELIEVING THEM all the while thinking every time a toilet flushes there is a conspiracy. They ignore numbers, data, and lies are ok as long as they're by "our folks." Conservatives are on the right side of most issues, but lie and manipulate or give bad arguments and throw temper tantrums when things don't go their way.

And now we're stuck with "critical race theory" in our California curriculum and LGBT fascism in our state frameworks.

I'm really fed up with things. There are no good political solutions. The Lord is our only solution, and a wonderful solution He is. But, I'd be lying if I said I grieve at the thought of raising my kids around this filth. For my kids to turn on the TV or internet and see two men kissing or abortion talked about like picking up ice cream at a Dairy Queen, or pandemics cast off as a joke, it's just clown world.

Three of my coworkers died from this virus nonsense.

Well said, Gurney. At my hospital, in the middle of the strictest quarantine measures, there was still a 9 hour wait to be seen in the ER and we were so packed that we couldn't separate people coming in with COVID symptoms from those without. If things had stayed open as normal, I simply don't know what would have happened. It was madness....total madness.....people dying while their loved ones wept in groups outside because they couldn't come into the ICU to see them. A living nightmare.

A few comments in no particular order:

1. Covid forced me to drive an hour away to another parish in another jurisdiction, just so I can commune. Furthermore, it has shut down the veneration of icons at my local parish (which is poignant being that we just had the Sunday of Orthodoxy and we have martyrs who died to venerate icons.) Thankfully God has provided a fresh St Tikhon's grad to be a new priest locally and worship with masks but no other limitations has resumed.

2. Personally, I am good with masks but not with any other measure that impedes worship, evangelism, or the sacraments. So, "we do everything the same way but wear masks" is fine with me. However, I'd be fine with that even if Covid was cured (due to flu season) I simply see it as more sanitary with zero dividend for not doing it. I am personally skeptical that the reason masks are being pushed is out of the love for mankind (rather, it is a star of david of sorts), but just because people have wrong motives it does not make something automatically bad or even unnecessary given the circumstance.

3. I dislike the polarization. Everything is a conspiracy vs. we should love the state, the world, and all the things in it. On a more profound level, we need to realize how sinful we were in 2019 versus now. So many of us got vaccines tested or grown with fetal tissue, accepted government/corporate encroachments on privacy, and other morally questionable things before Covid. We were worldly then, we are wordlly now.

4. However, where are out pastors calling out the worldliness? The calls to repentance? The mentality that going to church is worth dying for, that venerating the icons actually means something, the idea that our health is not the number one goal but our sanctification? When did the bishop to the monastic become our doctor or epidemologist? We are dying for lack of spiritual guidance. We have plenty of epidemological guidance. We need more spiritual guidance.

Without a vision the people perish. (Prov 29:18)

Can I ask what you mean by this?

Just curious what everyone's parishes are looking like now with COVID? We've had our parish open for quite a long time. We were only closed for the first few months of the shutdown in 2020. We still have Divine Liturgy but we wear masks in the building and keep pews open so that there is distance between families and individuals.

We are celebrating Matins again, and have been doing so for months now. We also celebrated our first Presanctified Liturgy this past Wednesday. The only thing is we're not having the meal after the worship on those Wednesday nights. I miss that.

How are you guys all doing?

My county is in the red now, finally out of the purple, but Fresno is still pretty rough where I go to church.

I'm in the midwest. My state was hard hit from COVID in early 2020, but Church opened back up late in the year. Attendance is controlled, social separation by families in the pews and in all queues. Facemasks are worn. Antidoron is in plastic bags, no kissing of the Priests hand, etc, etc, etc. Temps are taken at the door upon arrival as well.

I'm up in age, so I do Livestream a lot. My Church offered vaccinations (Pfizer I believe) this last week for all congregants, but my wife and I already had ours because of our ages. I hope to attend the Easter service this year, but that depends on how virus cases look in this area at that time. Vaccination gives you some confidence but I still play it safe until cases drop.

Livestream services and Wednesday night Church classes were a major blessing to me last year, it provided much needed solace during the difficult times. Just seeing Father online was wonderful!

I’m my part of California, COVID took root deeply because of our extensive good ole boy “I think this here mask stuff is a conspeeersy by the commies to control us all, Earl!” element. People refused masks, gathered defiantly, and within no time CenCal was COVID hotbed USA. My wife watched a lot of people die or suffer terribly from this pandemic. While I believe 100000% the Eucharist is and must be germ-free and that gathering in church should ALWAYS happen in all circumstances, I do believe everyone should mask up.

Completely agree. The mask is not only for your protection, it's to provide protection and reassurance to others from you. It's a courtesy and denotes respect for your fellow congregants.

Exactly. I also know people who died from COVID as well as several who nearly died.

When you have personal experience, it trumps internet rumors. Facemask wearing is no guarantee, but it's a prudent measure that combined with other things makes people safer. Why not?

I think there are a lot of thinking people who seek Centrist solutions to our problems. The Left is all about centralized power and intolerantly forcing their beliefs down your throats and the Right is full of conspiracy theories and hate. Very disconcerting for people who seek thoughtful approaches to problems and limits on government mandates.

I’m in the Midwest and we have sign ups to attend and a limited number of people are allowed to come. We basically attend Divine Liturgy one week and Vespers the next due to 100 person limit for Divine Liturgy. Sign ups are open starting late Thursday afternoon but they ask that you to wait until Saturday evening to sign up if you attended the week before so by Saturday the list is usually full. I enjoy attending both services though.
Upon arrival everyone signs in but there are no temperatures checks. There’s a mask requirement and social distancing as well. I have often spoken with others at closer than 6 feet before and after the service. Currently there’s no coffee hour. We are dismissed row by row and instructed on which door to use to exit.
As a catechumen I’ve read about how things were different pre-covid but I’ve yet to experience it since I just started attending last fall. We have livestream services which is nice to watch and when we had covid ourselves and stayed home I was certainly grateful for that!

We heard some great news today :D

Providing there's not a sudden increase in the number of Covid infections , our host Church will be open for public Worship next Sunday for their Easter.

We will then be able to have our usual 8am Celebration of Liturgy, for the 3rd Sunday of the Fast. We will be able to have about 20 present [ including the Chanter and Father ].

Oh wow! Hopefully things will improve enough for y'all to be able to attend Pascha services! Yeah, it'll be a nice change once we can go back to pre-covid life.
