It is argued by some, that, if God were to “will, desire, or wish” for something, then this will always happen. And, if it does not, then somehow it is seen as a “failure” on God’s part.

Using this line of argument, verses like 1 Timothy 3-4, and 2 Peter 3:9, which speaks of the “will, desire”, of God, in the salvation of the lost, it is assumed that because God so “desires or wills” “every human being”, to be “saved”, then they “must” be. But, as we know that “every human being”, will not be saved, then God’s “will or desire”, has been “wasted” or a “failure”. This is used to “prove” that God’s “desire/will” cannot mean for “every human being”, and therefore must be taken to mean “the elect”.

“This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-4)

θέλω , “to will, be willing, wish, desire

“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3:9)

βαύλομαι, “to will, wish, desire, purpose, be minded, implying more strongly than θέλω”

Then we have passages like that in Ezekiel;

“Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? ...For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.” (Ezekiel 18:32)

חפץ, “to will, to desire

In the context it is very clear, that God is speaking about wicked, sinful people, who reject His Ways and Laws. Yet God says of these people, that He does not “will/desire” their eternal death, but, rather that they should “turn” (repent) and live eternally! Now, just because many of these people would still have rejected the Ways of the Lord, and not “turned” to Him in repentance, does this mean that somehow God has failed?

Paul in writing to the Thessalonians, urged them to live holy lives, and to abstain from all sexual immorality. Paul says to them, that this is the “will of God”.

“For this is the will of God, [even] your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication” (1 Thessalonians 4:3)

Θέλημα, “that which is willed”

πορνεία, “of illicit sexual intercourse in general”`

This command is for all believers. Likewise Peter says in his Letter, that God Commands all believers to be “holy”, because He is “Holy”. It is not just a suggestion, but tells of the Command from God Himself.

“but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:15-16)

“you shall be holy”, having the force of the imperative

There is no doubt that it is the strong “desire/wish/will” of God, that His children are to live godly lives. Yet, we see from Paul’s Letter to the Corinthians, where he speaks of “carnal Christians”, some who were also guilty of incest, etc. We live in a very fallen and evil world, where many Christians, even leaders, are not living godly lives, and some have also “fallen away” from the Faith, because of their sinful lives. It is no doubt as seen from the entire Teaching in the Holy Bible, that it is very much the “desire/wish/will”, of God, that every single human being, did not sin, as God cannot “desire/wish/will”, the opposite! Are we to conclude from this, that, since it is very clear, that Christians do not “abstain from sexual immorality”, which must also include sinful thoughts, and do not live lives that are “holy” are pleasing to God, that somehow because God so “willed” this, and it is not the case, that He has “failed”? Absolutely NOT!

The fact that God DOES “desire/wish/will”, that every single human being were to “repent and believe in the Gospel”, about the Lord Jesus Christ. Does NOT mean, that ALL have to do so, and if they did not, then it is God Who has “failed”! Likewise, when the Bible says that Jesus even shed His Blood for the likes of Judas, which is very clear from Luke 22:20-23, that if these were not saved, because they “would not come to Jesus “(John 5:39-40), that somehow the Blood of Jesus has been “wasted”. This is ABSURD! It is evident from the Teaching of the Bible, that God “desiring” certain things does not mean that they are “definite”.

WILL OF THE FATHER:

Matt 7:21 Jesus said; Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
(MY NOTE: Jesus said, only those that do the will of my Father will enter into the kingdom of heaven)

HOW WE DO THE WILL OF THE FATHER:

John 6:40 Jesus said; This is the will of him that sent me, that every one which "seeth the Son, and believeth on him" may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
(MY NOTE: The will of the Father is: Place your Faith in Jesus sin atoning sacrifice. Found in his death (sins required wage PAID), burial (proof Jesus died) & resurrection (God's receipt, payment received & accepted)

without repenting of sins?

I could post many verses that would proclaim belief is all that's required.

Having said that, in order to believe in Christ's sin atonement. I would think one would need to understand:

1) You have a sovereign creator God.

2) You have transgressed/sinned against His supreme rule & are in need of redemption.

Jesus' first Words recorded in Mark, "repent and believe" (1:15); in Luke 24:47 Jesus says, "and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem". In Acts 2 after Peter preached, he says, "And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.". Again Jesus, "No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish" (13:3, 5), etc

The only sin that needs repentance/change of thought/direction is from UNBELIEF in God & His Son.

Jn 16:9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
(NOTE: Of Sin, NOT SINS! The only SIN that condemns one to eternal seprtation/damnation is UNBELIEF, continued REJECTION of Christ's sin payment & resurrection, until/at lifes end. Jesus sin payment covers/includes all sin except rejection of His finished works at life's end/your death)

Jn 12:32 Jesus said; And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
(NOTE: Jesus was lifted up on the cross & from the grave!. Everybody is drawn to/offered salvation via God's Holy Spirit. Sadly, not everyone excepts/embraces it)

Daily walk of repentance:
Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
(NOTE: It's thru the GOODNESS of GOD not thru OUR OWN great work of sin repentance, obedience or self-control. That we REPENT/change our thinking/course. It's salvations seal of indwelling Holy Spirit that leads us to REPENT/change our thinking outlook & direction > TOWARDS God & faith in Christ. Also see Acts 20:21).

Rom 16:26 but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, "so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience" "that comes from faith"
(NOTE: Brought to obedience/repentance/godly living, thru Faith)

Rom 1:5 "Through him we received grace" & apostleship "to call all the Gentiles to the obedience" "that comes from faith" for his name’s sake.
(NOTE: Called to FAITH, which leads to obedience & repentance)

1 Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
(NOTE: Anyone that believes they can conquer their own sin nature, without Gods help is mistaken)

To the verses you cited as ""repenting from personal sins""":
The Mk 1:15 refers to REPENTING from not believing who Jesus really was, TO, believing that Jesus was their long promised Messiah/Savior.

The Acts Acts 2:22-24 Men of Israel, Jesus is our long promised Messiah. YOU had Him KILLED , yet, God raised him from the dead

2:37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart [with remorse and anxiety], and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what are we to do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah]

So, again when put into verse context. Peter is says repent from KILLING Messiah (not your everyday sins) But, from Unbelief in God's Son to Belief

To understand chapter 13 verses you cited. You need the context leading up to it:

Parable of the Wealthy Fool vrs 12:16-33

Vrs 12:35-41 - Be ready for the coming of the Son of man vrs 35-41

Vrs 42-44 - Parable of the Faithful Steward who is to be admired because of what his master finds him so doing when he arrives.

Vrs 12:49-57 - Christ Divides Men
49 “I have come to cast fire (judgment) on the earth; and how I wish that it were already kindled! 50 I have a baptism [of great suffering] with which to be baptized, and how [greatly] I am distressed until it is accomplished!

51 Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division [between believers and unbelievers];

52 for from now on five in one household will be divided [over Me], three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

The Chapter 13 verses you cited are teaching the same: Not about everyday personal sins, BUT, Belief or Unbelief in the Son.

It's a public forum & you addressed me. Feel free to place me on ignore.

Acts 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
(NOTE: The key here is found in the article "TOWARD". Repentance TOWARD God & faith TOWARD Christ)

Repentance is not a work that earns salvation, repentance is a change of mind "TOWARD" God. For the Jew of the time repent/turn back to the Lord your God.

For the gentile that had NO relationship with God (Eph 2:12). Acknowledge that God IS, that you've sinned against a sovereign creator & are in need of a savior. Then trust/place your faith in Christ death, burial & resurrection.

Turning to God, when mixed with faith in Christ's sin payment & resurrection will results in a Holy Spirit inspired change of actions. Best wishes, JJ

Then we have passages like that in Ezekiel;

It is evident from the Teaching of the Bible, that God “desiring” certain things does not mean that they are “definite”.

simple enough for a child to understand.
God hates (does not will it) sin.
Yet...
