Sounds like the issue was that these staffers couldn't get a security clearance because of the past pot use, which doesn't apply to elected officials.
If the Trumps can get a clearance, anybody can.

This is a bad look for the administration, no doubt. Fox's spin is a little disingenuous, though, as usual.

The staffers were not "axed." They were asked to voluntarily resign.

The staffers were told to answer truthfully on the employment questionnaire, but that their answers regarding pot use would be overlooked by the White House. Unfortunately, the DOD has a rule that security clearances can be affected and/or denied by answering in the affirmative to past drug use. You have to have a security clearance to work as a staffer in the White House. It's a bit of a catch 22. BUT, the fact that Bill Clinton and Kamala Harris admitted to pot use publically and served as President and now Vice President in the White House kinda makes the whole rule questionable. It forces the DOD to apply rules unequally. The rule needs to be axed. Unless someone is currently using drugs and/or is involved with some kind of drug network then past use alone shouldn't really be a factor. Especially for pot.

Rules for thee and not for me?
Kamala, according to the standards placed on their staff, should be fired or impeached.
Or get Kamala impeached.
Impeachment is a bigger can of worms than a simple termination. Firing the staffers is a lot easier than firing a Vice President, as if a Vice President could simply be fired. Agree or not, the people chose her, and it should be public rule that terminates her service, also. The staffers can be fired by the same people who hired them.

I find it hard to believe there are many under the age of 80 who haven't tried pot, at least once. I mean, perhaps there are some conservatives who wag their crooked finger with one hand while slamming bourbon shots with the other, but for the rest...incredulous, I am.

I know a long list of straight-fingered people, such as myself, who have neither tried pot nor engaged in heavy drinking (or, in my case, never drank at all). You know you have a problem when you start claiming that everyone does it.

We're better-off having our country run by people with more sense.

There are probably very few, though regular or casual users are a minority, I suspect.

I'm ambivalent about pot. I think the faddish rush to normalize it is wrongheaded and ill-thought-out, and in regular users, it can indeed have serious health consequences (such as cannabinoid hyperemesis, a potentially serious health condition caused by the disregulation of the nervous system). However, fearmongering of the past was also extreme, and treated pot as a moral rather than medical problem. Certainly, past use shouldn't necessarily disqualify a person from public service.

When a red flag shows up on a background check (in this administration at least) they proceed with caution and issue a temporary furlough while investigating.

If there is no national security risk i assume they will return to work.

Haven't tried.

Haven't even tried a cigarrette.

Actually, smoking anything is gross to me.

Ha! Same here!
I haven't tried smoking or drinking or any drugs at any time of my life, and I'm almost 50. Some people might say I'm missing out, but when people who are addicted and suffering talk to me, they tell me they wish they'd never tried them either.
