What is it you have believed?
That God the Father sent His son, Jesus, to die on the cross in our place. A man who never sinned, ever. He arose on the 3rd day and is in Heaven right now, sitting at the right hand of the Father, waiting for the time for Him to come back to earth. Jesus came to save sinners, which is every person ever born, currently living, and those yet to be born.

I believe St. Paul sums things up in Colossians 1. Included within this chapter of Colossians would be Ephesians 2:8-10 in the relation of faith & works. Our primary expression of faith & works is charity & prayer ( for ourselves & our neighbor) as in Matthew 6:1-15. Our basic living out daily life follows by keeping the Lord’s commandments as best we can ( see: Matthew 19:16-19, Romans 13:8-10, John 14:15-18 & then all of John 14).

Just one approach among many.

hello all. i am in the process of getting saved (hardest thing i ever worked on) and am wondering, once a person gets saved, what comes next?
salvation is a process and remains a process. We may be able to define milestones in our salvation journey but I think calling it a single moment misses the point. it misses the point because salvation is not the goal, it is a product of the goal. What is the goal? the goal is a restored relationship with God; a relationship that we can obtain through Jesus.

Since you have already defined a process of salvation I would suggest to you that journey has already begun. perhaps like the starters position of a runner you are ready and in position waiting for the starter's gun so you can take off. But even before the gun goes off you are already a runner, you have entered the race and you have a goal. So I would say in like manner you are already a disciple of Christ and salvation is already upon you. You may go through formalities like reciting a carefully worded prayer or water baptism which are important milestone markers of discipleship and I would encourage you to participate in them and seek them out but I wouldn't let yourself be held hostage to these things like you are stuck in a holding pattern until they happen.

Christ is available to you now, accessible through your understanding as it is. You may feel inadequate on levels but the feeling of adequacy in the gospel is probably more of a counter-gospel value because we do not save ourselves, it is Christ who saves us. A drowning victim doesn't need to understand how everything around them works they only need to recognize they are drowning and there is a lifeline. So reach out to Christ, pray and start reading the bible, starting with the gospel of John is a common spot but no amount of learning, experience or words can make you more ready than you are in this moment so just respond as you already seemed to have a desire to do so.

Getting saved is a process of learning about how we are sinners, all deserving eternal hell, and how God sent His son Jesus, to die in our place. And on the 3rd day, Jesus rose and ascended to Heaven to sit next to the Father. And we are to truly believe in this, repent of our sins, then the Holy Spirit becomes one with you, and your sanctification begins and lasts till death, at which point, our souls go to be judged by Jesus. And either we are allowed into Heaven, or thrown into hell for eternity.

Almost. :)

We need to ask Jesus to fill us with his Holy Spirit; it's not an automatic thing. I'm told that Paul uses a word which actually means "keep on" being filled with the Spirit. WE need refilling with the Spirit every day - he empowers us to resist sin and live for Christ.
And if we have trusted Jesus as our Saviour and live in him, there is no condemnation, Romans 8:1. We will be asked to give an account of our lives and how we have used the gifts/opportunities we have been given, but Jesus died for our sins; WE will not be judged for them if we trust in him.

In Titus 2:11-14, our salvation is described as being trained by grace to do what is godly, righteous, and good, and to renounce doing what is ungodly, so being saved is a lifelong process.

And this is why i say getting saved is one of the most difficult things to do. But maybe i should explain more... when i go out, i usually break the speed limit. I almost always get mad at someone’s bad driving. I lie sometimes, i think bad things about people, i listen to heavy metal daily, and the list goes on and on.
The real craziness is at nite right before bed, i pray to God to forgive me and yet i cant even remember all the sins i committed that day.
I often times get jealous when i hear some people talk about how easy it was for them to get saved, and yet i cant seem to.
I just dont see peace or joy for christians, but i doubt too that many commit as much sinning as i do in a days time.

I wonder if you are thinking too much about what YOU consider sin. God knows where you are missing the mark and knows best what you could be fruitfully working on. Perhaps consider a prayer at the beginning of the day that God would give you one particular misdeed to work on. If you fail that day, you can certainly try again the next.

Our salvation is not through our works, so that stress is taken away, thank God! But we all seek to get closer to what the Lord desires for us. Let him lead you, all the while taking comfort in the blessing of salvation, knowing that it is not your burden to bear alone.

I see, perhaps, the cross of perfectionism in you. This is one that I too struggle with. It is indeed a trial that some others do not know in their salvation. This does not mean that God is not calling you! We bear our lot in life, knowing that Christ has borne it so much more, and he is able to complete the work begun in us. Have strength! Have Faith! and have peace and comfort, my brother.

Then you do what is easy to say and challenging to consistently do: He answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Luke 10:27

Is there really peace or joy after salvation?? They seem odd to me in this instance. How can there ever be joy or peace when everyday you sin so much?
I feel already some days like literally everything i do is sinful. I cant do right. Despite what some say, works will definitely play a part in salvation. How does one experience peace knowing that every move you make goes against God??

Your life can feel that way if you don't let go of the things you know you should. No man can serve two masters, he will hate one and love the other, hold onto one and despite the other (Matthew 6:24). We are not to love the world, because it is the very thing that keeps us from experiencing the peace and joy that is surrendering all to the Lord and letting go of worldly things. If you straddle the fence, you will be in an endless struggle. If you love the world more than God, the world will win over. In my own life, I had a number of addictions that I had to get rid of. All of them were harmful. Some health-wise, some kept me from God. When you remove these things, the distractions, the shiny baubles of the world, you will achieve a state of peace and joy, because you can focus on God fully.

The joy is in that you've found your King, your Lord, and your Savior.

Like, you know you have a purpose, and that it's not all pointless, that even when you suffer and struggle there is a point to it all that is going to be for your good.

This might seem silly but something that's kind of stood out to me recently. Most, if not all people have a deeply held desire for a hero/savior, I think it's God given. That's why we like movies and stories with heroes in them, that's why "hero worship" is a thing, that's that desire twisted and misused in the world. We have a desire for Christ as our Hero and to worship Him.

But anyway, so I was watching just some youtube videos.. reactions to certain scenes in movies and tv shows, for instance, the moment in "Avengers Endgame" where Captain America is able to pick up Thor's Hammer, or in the Mandalorian TV show where they have Luke Skywalker come and rescue the protagonists. I mean the setup is the protagonists are in great danger, the villains look like they're going to win .. then.. the camera shifts over to the Hammer starting to move (in the Avengers).. and I remember the theater got really excited. There's anticipation, this feeling that this desire they have, for a hero that they love to have his time to shine is about to be fulfilled, or in the star wars show, when the X wing shows up to the ship. There was that anticipation, the audience knows who they want it to be. As the hammer snapped into Cap's hand I heard someone behind me just say "yes!" This was something they hoped for and when they saw the signs that it was going to happen there was fulfillment and joy in that, and as the scenes go on in those videos the members of the audiences are reacting with joy and sometimes with tears in their eyes.

Understand that Jesus is the true fulfillment of that desire for a hero, a savior, saving us not only from our sin, but someday from the darkest and most dangerous times this world will ever face, and He's coming back to save you and defeat all our enemies, sin, death, the wicked of this world, and Satan himself. As a Christian you are seeing the hammer begin to wiggle metaphorically speaking, you're seeing that X wing make its approach right now, and there's that anticipation that your Savior is coming, a Hero that you love is about to have His time to shine, when He returns. That is part of the joy in being saved, that we know our Hero is coming back that we will have true fulfillment of that deeply held desire for a savior.

The peace comes from knowing that He has done what is impossible for you to do (win the battle against sin by yourself), so that you can be reconciled to God.

I really like what Jamdoc wrote. It's true, these depictions of heroism in movies and TV stir something deep inside us. They appeal to our desire for a savior, for meaning in life and for triumph over evil. To worship a supreme being with limitless power, who has our best interest at heart. And therein lies the problem with entertainment. It becomes false worship of false gods and people don't even recognize it for what it is.

I have a friend who is religious about his superhero movies. He idolizes them, focuses on their special abilities and their heroic deeds, gets excited like a little boy for the next movie and the hidden gems that only the true fans catch.

A Christian must be aware that Satan counterfeits every aspect of God. It's no coincidence that hero stories seem to depict the conflict between Christ and Satan. More often than not, the Satan figure is morally ambiguous, depicted as good when he's really evil. The Christ figure has a dark side that makes the viewer question whether he's really worthy of his status. These are very dangerous themes to allow to seep into your consciousness.

My point is, even entertainment is aimed at keeping you firmly planted in the world. You will struggle as long as you hold onto these things, because they are the trappings of a temporary world that is soon to perish. It is when you remove these things from your life that you experience peace and joy, because they are truly distractions from your Christian walk.

God bless!

Interestingly enough though, watching through these things with the spirit as my guide it's like it points out how Jesus is illustrated throughout all worldly culture, you can see Satan's influence in culture (as you said, tarnishing the Christ like figure) but also the influence of Jesus in it. It's like a microcosm of spiritual warfare everywhere you look.
Instead of ending up worshiping these ultimately fallible superheroes, you see things that instead point to Christ and how He's the actual hero you're waiting for. When you recognize the counterfeit as a counterfeit, it then reminds you of the real thing, if that makes sense.

But you do have to recognize the counterfeits first, and understand how Satan's influence is to lead away from Christ, be able to resist that, and understand that the REAL Avenger is coming down from Heaven, and His name is Jesus (or Yeshua if you want to use His Hebrew name, someday it'll be Immanuel)

Jesus gives salvation up-front, before it's deserved, before we're sanctified. He's looking for our hearts, then He can do the rest.

[For I am] confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. - Phl 1:6

We come to Jesus because we cannot clean ourselves up. Independent and prideful as we are, if we could, we would; but we can't.

Those who are forgiven much, love much. And Jesus will forgive, 70 x 7. The thing to do is to focus on Him. The more you look to Him the greater your love, and the greater your joy, which is our strength.

Salvation is given up-front, not earned. Then in that context you can walk it out, with the Comforter guiding and helping.

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. - 1Jo 5:13

Praise The Lord. There will be rejoicing in heaven over yet ‘another’ sinner who has repented...Somebody recently said to me simply ‘look at Jesus’...best advice I’ve had on a forum.

Each day has enough worries of its own.

The Holy Spirit dwells in you and will begin to convict you when you sin. You know how they talk about the good angel and the bad angel on our shoulders? Your good angel just took steroids and your bad angel now walks with a cane. You will notice little things bother you that didn't before- profanity, certain music, certain movies, you will start to become hyper- aware of the evil around you and you just try not to sin. If you do, repent immediately to and slap yourself as a reminder

Some refer to sanctification as salvation, but it's sanctification that is the lifelong process, not salvation.

Salvation is by faith, a one time action of God's Holy Spirit in the new birth. . .our good works do not save us. . .our good works grow us in holiness after we are saved.

To go to heaven, believe on Jesus Christ(who is God). Have faith and trust in Lord Jesus to save you. You should believe that Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again.

From there we don't stop, we don't rest on our laurels; we pick up our cross daily and follow. We strive, we persevere, we pray, we continue to seek a deeper relationship with God and to grow in holiness and do His will. Man's very purpose and perfection consists in that partnership or communion and is attained to the extent that we love Him with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength- and our neighbor as ourselves. That's His plan and desire for us and is only possible with His grace as we remain in Him and He in us. And this will be born out by the way we live our lives.

Do you love your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of Nazareth? Once this question is honestly answered yes [He knows your heart], the Holy Spirit will regenerate you. He will guild you in all truth and conviction. It is a natural relationship, like breathing.
Be blessed.

There is a problem in the church where the idea behind Jesus’ sacrifice is that he died on the cross so that when we die we can live this disembodied life in a spiritual place called heaven. That’s part of it, Paul definitely say that when he dies he will “be with Christ”.

But this isn’t the whole story. The true end of God’s plan of salvation is to have a renewed creation, where we all will have new resurrected bodies and live under God’s rule. As NT Wright puts it, “life after life after death”.

Jesus said that with his arrival, the Kingdom of God (new creation under God’s rule) is here NOW. Paul says that when we follow Christ we are already a new creation. So converting to become a disciple of Jesus isn’t the end, like now we just have to wait to die so we can escape our bodies and live in heaven. That’s a pagan idea, Greek philosophy. What it means is that we get the opportunity to start living like we are in the Kingdom NOW. Loving God, loving others, doing kingdom work, etc.
