It appears to be a blessing, since it is hardwired into humanity.

Humans tend to rebel against commands.

It could be a blessing, a curse, a prediction or a command. I think it's all of the above. God said it, and it was.

Actually, it appears to be a command ... the first command that God ever gave man.

And guess what ... abortion, gay marriage, adult addiction, and contraception (especially outside of marriage) all testify to the fact that man, for some reason, don't want to obey God. He wants to make a god out of the pleasure of the marital act without the responsibility of children. Children are a product of love ... so why would we run away from having them ... even in marriage.

I'm not going to push it too far ... but I do tend to agree with the Roman Catholic View on this (even though that's probably the ONLY thing I agree with them on. )

It's a blessing if it entails more than just babies.

Try being radically poor and having babies in want, then you'll know. The poor don't care about you. And, they don't care about your rules.

Hello Public Hermit, in what way do you believe that the command to, "be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth", is about more than just having babies?

It is certainly both. God’s commands are blessings.

Revelation 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Revelation 21:7 is not about having babies.

Babies have to eat, live, have a life. Should I have a child when I know it's going to grow up watching me shoot dope, and sleep with men, and scrounge to garner life's necessities, to just... live?

Is that the world children should grow to adulthood within?

Of course, no one wants to admit this is the reality, but it is. And, chances are, I am like I am because of those who came before me. We don't want to kill babies, but we don't accept babies from the hell that humans created for them, do we?

So, no. It talks about living out the teachings of Christ, and bearing fruit.

it could be, I think if people think about it too much, it tends to result in less multiplying.
