It seems like the angels were expected to worship God and a third of them didn't want to so they were cast out of Heaven (then will eventually go to Hell).
In the OT and NT God says that humans must love God with all their heart, mind, and soul...

Does God "need" to be worshipped? It seems he is expecting it from the angels and people.... it seems to be his plan...

The fact is that God is so good, so beautiful and so immensely loving and gracious that worship is spontaneous. Nothing compares to the goodness of God because He is above all, and to place Him above all brings joy unspeakable, which will spark more worship yet.

like the song says God is worthy of all honour glory and power. i'm so incredible thankful He has called me to praise and glorify Him, His love is better than life.

I believe that it is necessary from a few aspects.
1. God is who He is. He is entirely entitled to be worshipped. Even human dignitaries expect some respect from those beneath their status.
2. God is entirely good in every possible way. He is worthy of praise and worship
3. The one who worships God is blessed in a way that non-worshippers will never know.
4. Worship keeps us in perspective. When life is really difficult, it is enormously beneficial to remember who God is and how great He is.
5. Those who refuse to acknowledge God are robbing themselves of great blessing.
6. It is a part of human nature to worship. Movie stars, sporting greats, dictators, all kinds of people are worshipped. The shameful thing is that worshipping people is robbing God of His due.

God knows our hearts. He does not demand love from us if it is not possible due to a hardened heart. He gave all free will to choose. Based on our choice, He chooses us or condemns us. Be blessed.

When I hear music that I think is inspired, I am really in a state of worship, or adoration.

It is a state of ec-stasis, or "standing outside oneself".

Ritual and contemplation is really an attempt to rehearse or approximate oneself into this state in order to be ready for it.

When you meet Him your questions quickly dissolve.

If I may be so bold. In reality no it will not you see words can mean different things so the word 'worship' in English has more meanings than just one. So echoing @Tinker Grey question what does worship mean to you

When you encounter God personally it is an experience that leaves you totally undone - even speechless for hours. There are several occasions in Scripture that speak about this. Questions dissolve and there is a total knowing or what the Greek calls epi-gnosis. It can take the mind days to catch up with what has happened although ones confession changes immediately because from the heart rather than the mind your words will flow. It is in this state of Holy encounter that Worship naturally triggers.
This can happen before you are a Christian.
If you commit you life to Jesus, this sense of His presence resides in you permanently.

Yet your not really even trying to answer or address the question that the gentleman @Tinker Grey asked. I noticed on here many Christians actually don't engage with the question or try to approach it, instead they give lengthy or short answers that have nothing to do with the question. Christians around these parts are masters of deflection and not dealing with the question as asked

You are expecting a rational response to a matter involving a 'totally other' experience.

No, a real response to the question of what definition of worship is. What is wrong what a rational response? Paul gave rational responses and explanations, not every explanation has to be in the clouds and the Gospel message should never be. As Paul we should become all things to all men, if you get an intellectual question you should answer in kind instead give flowery paragraphs that doesn't really give any answer.

How hard can it be for a Christian to give a real straight answer to the question "What does worship mean?" or a straight answer to any question. It appears quite difficult. All one has to do is start off with "This is what worship means to me...."

There is more going on than just answering a simple question.

Some contributors are intent on reducing all aspects of faith to the rational.

The heart of the Gospel is a mystery in that the incarnation and the resurrection are not rational. Such matters have to be accepted by faith.
