Does anyone have any hope of changing peoples minds about Trump?

Many of President Trump's supporters identify with him in a personal way, just like they do with their favorite actor or actress. Some refer to this emotional attachment that we have to our favorite actor or actress as celebrity worship syndrome. While that phrase is a bit of an exaggeration, there is some truth to it, especially to the millions of women who were crazy in love with Elvis. How much this attachment to Trump compares to celebrity worship syndrome is uncertain, but some have made the comparison.
When the opposition to Trump determined that the goal was to destroy him as a person rather than just criticize his policies as President, that naturally had the effect of making his supporters react in kind.

This is only human nature. If your local mayor worked for some new construction project that you thought a waste of money, your focus would be administrative and financial, but if the supporters of a rival candidate for the mayor's job smeared the incumbent mayor's looks, his family, his personality, and so on, it would cause the reaction to become as personal as the attacks.

I don't think that people that voted for Trump are wrong, I am not sure but they are probably right. However it really does seem many people on this Forum think Trump is righteous.
Ah, a different issue indeed. From my external observations, Mr Trump was elected because he was not Hilary Clinton. He was chosen as the Republican candidate because many Americans rejected the status quo of political and social elites promising everything and delivering nothing. Unless you were one of the elites, of course.

Then they fell for a major con job. Trump has taken delivering to his cronies to a whole new level.

I do however agree he benefitted greatly from the anti-Hillory vote.

My skepticism in being able to change a Trump supporters mind is that Trump has done some absolutely doozies that they are able to excuse. Even, at times, at the expense of running parallel with reality

How can you change a mind that is preset there, I just don't know

Can be true with various politicians though right? Can anyone tell me this above wouldn't apply to Obama as well? Surely people need to acknowledge that there's a strong worship syndrome there?

That's laughable. "Trump was elected because people were reeling from two previous losses." No, that's not why he was elected.
Romney, a senator of character? You're only saying that because he hates Trump and sides with the left a lot.
God help us if we get another one of your establishment "statesmen" in. There's a reason the Dems love them, and it's probably not why you think. I'll never vote for them. Never.

No, you'd rather vote for a proven liar, adulterer, fraudster and bigot. Who knows maybe you'll get another chance to, if he isn't in prison by 2024.

You seem a little on the bitter side about Trump supporters. Is there a reason for that?

No, they will be ardent followers until the day they die (or longer, if you happen to believe in an afterlife).
There won't be any politics in the afterlife.

I'm not saying anything about Mr Trump's performance. I'm not qualified to comment. As I've said before, if anyone thinks that one man can solve America's problems (or anywhere else for that matter), they are kidding themselves.

If your house is on fire, the moral fortitude of the firefighter is secondary to his ability to do the job at hand. A lot of people see this country in trouble due to the policies enacted by liberal politicians and though Trump's behavior and attitude might be bad, some of the policies he enacted while in office are policies they agree will fix many of the ills this country is experiencing. Fixing the country is secondary to being a nice guy, or even a moral guy.

I've never understood having an emotional attachment to an actor or actress, either. Or sports team, for that matter.

I see so many people wrapping themselves up in things entirely outside of their control. Frankly, i find it odd and disturbing.

They facilitated one of the foulest, most immoral people ever to have held power in a modern Western democracy. Worse they did it in full knowledge of who he is and how he would act. They get zero sympathy or tolerance from me. By supporting him they support his behavior.

But of course none of that applies if we look at the views held about other presidents by the critics of Trump.

Those who revile President Trump apparently find no fault with them, even though almost all of the things said about Trump apply to those other people equally well.

So, let's return to the question and see if there is a REAL answer that we can come up with.

Most rational people find fault with ALL presidents once they are in power especially. There hasn't been a single one who didn't deserve condemnation for something. But Trump was not a normal president, he was a revolting bigot, racist and sexual predator long before he was elected. If you voted for him knowing his history, then shame on you.

Have you ever lied? Have you ever lusted after a woman? Have you ever cheated or stolen something, even something "insignificant?" Your a bit of a bigot towards Trump supporters.

Trump supporters find me tedious but I have not given up hope I am just trying to work out how to get a conversation started.

There is nothing to change .. Trump didn’t converted any one to be Trumpian. Trump just elevated all those who thinks like Trump, act like Trump and believe how the scarcity should be like Trump.

You can’t change them. they are who they are. We just have to get used to that in our society we will have people who are Trumpian. We just have to find a way to have majority who are not Trumpian so we don’t end up electing another like Trump.
