Worrying about my salvation. Being in what seems like the last days ive been struggling with fear and confusion. I keep questioning the bible. Some say it has many errors. Some say theres no historical evidence for some of the events of the bible. Some say moses and job and jonah ,etc were fictional and didnt exist. Why are so many books missing from the bible? Some say bible was written to simply control the masses, etc. All this confusion has just messed up my mind. I cant seem to get grounded in Christ becuz i question it all. And i hate it. Makes me feel like its hopeless for me. How can i truly be saved and still question all these things? At this point what do i do?

Proverbs 3:3Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. 9Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

Focus on faith not knowledge. Devote yourself to prayer. When you feel doubt, pray fervently. You can do this no matter where you are or what you are doing. Learn the character of God. Focus on the name of Jesus Christ. If you don't understand something, fear God and trust HIM. Knowledge and understanding CANNOT save, only Faith in Jesus Christ can save.

Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

I can understand the concern.

I think if you look at what Jesus had to say, he demanded neither that you understand theology perfectly (or at all, to be honest) nor that your behavior is perfect. His judgement was restricted to those whose direction was opposed to what God wants, either because they abused others or because they reject his requirements to repent, forgive others, and show God’s love.

The questions that are bothering you are important ones, and I have strong opinions on them, but first I think is to have enough confidence in God to realize that even if you get some of them wrong it’s OK.

I think one of the biggest problems with Christianity is that it keeps scaring people with the couple of times Jesus said the way is narrow, and this somehow wipes out the rest of his teaching, e.g. where he said his burden is light. Yes, there are many ways to fail to understand him. But if you look at the context in Luke (the Matthew version doesn’t have much context), it seems that he was speaking to the people who rejected him at the time, and that the speech ends with them being turned away but the whole rest of the world let in (aside from one person, in Matthew’s version). The problem is that everyone claims the narrow way is theirs. But there’s no reason in Jesus’ teaching to expect that the narrow way means having the exact right theology or adhering to someone’s legalist code of behavior, since the rest of his teaching opposed those things. The narrow way, based on his actual teaching, is loving God and our neighbor.

It’s odd to think of this being narrow, but as we can every day in CF, it really is true that a lot more people seem to have demands that we do lots of other things. Certainly many of the people he spoke thought they had to follow difficult legal codes.

While it seems like few people find the narrow way, I think there's hope that Jesus will forgive anyone who trusts him, even if they are legalists or demand that you follow their weird path.

Some say bible was written to simply control the masses
If you suppose the Bible is controlling the masses . . . lolol

You might read the Bible and see what it means. And then you might realize how it is not controlling people . . . not according to God's meaning. God blesses people to succeed in doing all He means. No amount of human controlling can bring what God's word means.

But the Bible is used by people to try to control others.

But it is not always used with the same objectives. Very different and even disagreeing people are trying to use the Bible for status and control.

And right in God's word you can read how Jesus says we must not try to lead people by lording ourselves over them . . . right?

So, anyone using the Bible for control is not correctly interpreting and obeying God's word.

Satan wanted to use Heaven for himself; but he would have wanted to change Heaven to his way. Like this, ones want to use the Bible, but they represent it incorrectly, in order to use it for what they want.

Money is used for control. But do you object to having money . . . by the way? :)

Questioning is good. I question everything I hear and read. I do not believe anything because someone wants me to or because a lot of other people do.

Salvation is of God. Your Salvation is through Faith. Faith is not just a belief in something without knowing about it.

When you question, question in an effort to find the answer. When you find the answer, the truthful one(not a lie), then you will know it. Pretty soon you will find that you know more than you question.

Peace comes from truth. You will find peace in truth.

You have good questions and almost everyone has had those same questions at some point in their walk of faith. I think it is important to remember that the Bible has been around for a very long time, if it had significant errors they would have been found long before you and I questioned them. It is also important to remember that the Bible is not a history book, although it contains history, it is not a science book, it is a book to reveal God and to help us live lives that keep us close to God. If you read the book of Romans you will discover that you are saved if you believe in Jesus. You are saved by what Jesus did not by what you can do. Regarding the content of the Bible, some parts are to be taken literally and some parts are allegorical, there are errors in translations and copying errors but they are not of any significance and there are good reasons for those errors. There are also very good reasons for the books that are included in the Bible and those that are excluded from the canon of scripture. People on this site will be more than willing to answer specific questions, do not however expect everyone to have exactly the same understanding for each Bible verse and there are good reasons for the different views. So ask questions, read scripture, and you will never stop learning. Most importantly, if you accept Jesus as your Savior, and have faith, you are saved.

Think of it this way: Jesus came to reveal the true “face” of God to us, so that we’ll know Him and begin to value Him above all the things in this world, good as they may be, things that attract us but can never satisfy completely, or permanently. But the more we know God the more we love Him-that can’t be helped- and as we begin to love Him above all else our world comes to take on a new form, one of order and meaning and purpose in an otherwise quite chaotic and hopeless existence. Love and reason and truth and goodness are seen as foundational to God’s universe, despite the anger and hate and falsehoods and general failure to love in man’s world. And God, through His Son, shows us how to love as He does, giving us that power as we enter relationship with Him. You will not find a greater or more important message anywhere.

Dear Zimmer36,
Your uncertainty is not uncommon but you do not have any anything to be concerned about. Our salvation is 100% the work of Christ. He is the one who does the saving, not us. There is nothing you can do to save yourself. If you believe that you can do something, then you are not presently saved.

Can you believe this verse?:

1 Tim 2:3-6 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

If you do believe this verse, then ask yourself how and when will Christ accomplish this great work of saving all mankind? Scripture answers those questions but the answers are presented in "another language".

Isa 28: 10-12 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: 11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. 12 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Even Paul taught in this other language.

1Cor 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

1Cor 2:13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Scripture is written in the spiritual language of Christ, it is not literal as most believe. And because it is not literal, scripture appears to be full of errors and contradictions. But that is not so. When a believer is given "eyes that can see" (spiritual understanding), the problems disappear and a whole new truth starts to come to light. Only a "few" will understand in this age - most believers will not. It simply was not ordained for everyone to understand at this time. But as the verse above in 1Timothy says, someday they too will be given the knowledge of the truth.

To know the truth, you must put away all that you have ever been taught because nearly all of it is not true as this verse says:

Matt 13:33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

This verse is a parable but more than that, it is written in Christ's spiritual language. The "woman" in the verse represents carnal mankind who have been "called" to follow Christ. They have received the Early Rain of the Spirit (like you) but remain carnally minded and have not had their spiritual blindness healed. In the parable, the woman takes leaven (false teachings) and hides it in 3 measures of meal. It is hidden because when a person eat this bread, they do not realize that it is full of false teachings. They believe that it is the true bread from heaven (truth) but it is not. Once a person eats this bread, they will spiritually die (fall away). At this point, the believer is no longer saved but they do not realize it. This happens to all who are called out from the world. But if Christ has chosen you to be saved in this present age, He will come to you a second time and give you the Latter Rain of the Spirit. Upon receiving the Latter Rain, Christ will heal your spiritual blindness and you will be able to start understanding and accepting the truth of what Christ says in scripture. These chosen believers are the First Fruits of Christ's harvest of mankind. They are first to be saved but salvation is not limited to just them. All others who Christ did not chose to be saved in this present age will be saved in the final age, at the end of the harvest season. This includes not only those who we called but also unbelievers as well. Christ is the good farmer and will not lose any of His crop of mankind. So remember the order Christ is saving mankind: the Elect (First Fruits, a very small group) are saved first in this age, then everyone else will be saved in the final age.

Also, there is no "hell" as is commonly taught. That is a false teaching that comes from the bread the woman made. The Lake of Fire which is commonly thought to be "hell" is a spiritual symbol for Christ's judgment. All mankind must be judged and from our judgment we will learn God's righteousness. The Elect are judged in their lifetimes now but all others will be judged in the final age.

Isa 26:9 With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

I will end this now but there is much more that could be said. If Christ has given you a "love for the truth", then I suggest you do as Christ says and pray for Him to reveal Himself (Truth) to you.

Just remember that all of mankind's salvation is assured - only the timing of it is varied. Christ came to save us all and He will not fail us.

If you have any questions, please ask.

Dear Zimmer36,
No, hell as described by the teachings of the church is not in scripture at all. I just made a post on another thread. It is in two parts but it addresses your question along with many other questions you probably have. It is in the General Theology forum in the section entitled "Salvation (Soteriology)". The thread name is BASIC TRUTH I.

If you have an interest, you might read my post up above it, too. They are quite long but I believe they are worth reading.

questioning certainly doesn't equate to not saved.

Romans 3:4
Certainly not! Let God be true and every man a liar. As it is written: “So that You may be proved right when You speak and victorious when You judge.”

Acts 17:11
Now these, who were more noble than those in Thessalonica, received the word with all readiness, on every day examining the Scriptures, whether these things were so.
