Hey These are ink on canvas done mostly with airbrush. I used the same bird reference for my graphite avatar drawing but wanted to try it in ink. The background is made up and may needs some tweaks.

Beautiful! I see you are still using your new airbrush. The background is fantastic. Do you make art most every day?
Thank you :) Lately I've been at it almost daily. The airbrush really is a lot of fun and t solves a lot of the problems I 've had using acrylics the traditional way, like getting unsaturated, diffuse washes over large areas with consistent coverage. I want to see what happens next if I spray some watercolor. I'm hoping for the same granular textured look of watercolor without the unpredictability. Thanks again :)

Ooooh. Please do post it if you try a watercolour piece. That would be neat to see. I didn't even realize you could use watercolours with an airbrush. I guess pretty much any wet media works?

Thanks. :) I tried but it didn't work out like I had hoped. First of all I used synthetic paper that doesn't absorb anything so the paint runs. (It's like painting on primed wood or canvas with no tooth) So going dark with transparent watercolor alone on non absorbent paper with an airbrush is next to impossible since each subsequent layer reactivates the paint causing it to run. So I decided to spray calligraphy ink over the watercolor, causing the watercolor to reactivate and creating more runs. But it also mixed on the paper which is cool for a blurry look. So to try to salvage it I i finished up with watercolor applied with brushes and sponges over the dried ink /brown watercolor mixture and then gave up since it looks so muddy and flat. Ill use the reverse side to paint something else. For me its not practical to use colors with the brush since i only have one brush. You have to load each color separately. Plus watercolors are a little too runny. India ink is probably a better idea since it has more body than water. Acrylic ink is hit or miss. One brand gummed up the brush even though I added airbrush medium. I ll probably just stick to monotones with maybe colored inks with the brush. You can always just use the monotones as underpaintings with color coats over the top. (Some airbrushes pull paint from separate attached bottles so it would be easier to switch colors. Mine is gravity fed with the paint chamber permanently attached so you have to flush it out and fill it with each color change. Here are the steps:

Calligraphy Ink over the watercolor Applied with Airbrush

Watercolor (Pans) over the ink ) Also scrubbed out alot of the ink with a wet towel

More watercolor over the ink. Decided to abandon ship after this step.

Well, I like it! It turned out pretty cool-looking. A bit impressionistic, which seems like it isn't your usual style, but still nice.
Thank you :) I used to do nothing but loose brushwork impressionism but lately I'm more into texture. If I were to try again with watercolor it might be better to mix it with airbrush medium instead of water. Thanks again :)
