Teaching a class on Critical Race Theory. CRT theorizes that racism is a systemic problem and that systems and structures of racial oppression exist at every level of society. I don't think that this idea is inherently implausible. In fact quite the opposite. This sounds exactly like something that sinful human beings would do. I am at a loss to produce some plausible examples, though, and sadly the Critical Race theorists don't supply examples. They tend to deal more in the abstract. So if you believe that systemic racism exists, could you provide an example of a racist system or structure?

It's not. I believe this theory developed out of the Frankfurt School of Marxism, where the German Communists that fled the Nazis realized that class struggle didn't work well in the US back in 1940 and beyond but the country did have a history of problems with bigotry that could be used instead.

Look at the US housing market for examples. There are several federal (HUD) papers on racial factors in the housing market that are freely available online.

African-Americans and Latinos, for instance, on average have to make more calls and applications for apartments and tend to pay higher out of pockets like renters insurance and processing costs/fees when compared to Whites and Asians. Even when income and other factors are evened out.

Same thing when selling a house. An African-American couple had a White neighbour pose as the home owner during valuations. End result was that the house was appraised as worth nearly $500,000 more when it was 'owned' by the neighbour. Full story here: Home appraisal for Black couple skyrockets after white friend pretends to be homeowner

Also look at the jobs market. There are a couple of studies on how likely a person is to get a job interview when they have an 'African' or 'Asian' name vs a 'White' name on their resume, or use and Anglicized version of their own name.

Other examples from the jobs market are differences in African-American unemployment rates and rates of managerial attainment, even when corrected for education levels.

Also look at 'upward mobility' statistics - African Americans and Latinos born in households in the bottom 25% of income earners are about 1/2 as likely to move into a higher income bracket in adulthood than White or Asian counterparts.

Systemic racism is also prevalent in the education sector. Plenty of examples there.

Institutional racism in the housing sector can be seen as early as the 1930s with the Home Owners' Loan Corporation. Banks would determine a neighborhood's risk for loan default and redline neighborhoods that were at high risk of default.

Institutional racism impacts health care accessibility within non-white minority communities by creating health disparities among racial groups.[39][40] For example, from 1865 to 1906, many Black veterans were unfairly denied disability pension by the union army disability pension system.

The disparity between the sentences given to Black people and white offenders has been most highlighted by that of crack and powdered cocaine offenses.

In my county (Virginia) there are two school systems: private and public. The vast majority of white kids go to private school and the vast majority of black kids go to public school. The origin of these schools systems was resistance to desegregation.

It is debatable whether minority children are adversely affected by this persistent system. It should be studied. Nonetheless, the system is in place due to racism and hasn't changed. In other words, schools here are still segregated according to race.

I certainly agree that disparities exist. These charts show disparities. They do not show systems of racism which are allegedly responsible for the disparities.
It's kind of like how prison labour isn't much different from the old indentured servitude of the colonial days. Slavery was abolished, but the economy couldn't handle not having free labour - so arresting people because they're poor goes all the way back to that system.

The disparities illustrate who is targeted.

Could we show what the systems are that target them?

This question tends to be met with exasperation since, all the systems are stacked against them in one way or another.

It's kind of like how Biden said he'd make all of the illegal workers legal, how many millions? It's a problem that's invisible unless it happens to you, so the stats illustrate how the order of society is intentional, not merit based.

So not able to give an example then?

I did.

But I don't understand your premise.

It's kind of like talking to an evolutionist, they say evidence, but are not required to provide proof.

I think it might be a misunderstanding of terminology.

Could you give an example of what would be sufficient to qualify as an example?

I can think of examples of systems and structures. The nuclear family is a structure. America’s justice system (as codified in federal and state constitutions) is a system. The public school system is a system.

I can even think of systems of oppression like slavery and segregation.

Hmm ... a system.

The prison system seems to profit off of incarcerating black people for no reason other than them being too poor to post bail.

It's a form of forced labour, so I'd say it's a form of slavery for sure.

So you are saying that the US prison system is racist?

Does the prison system also profit off of poor white people?
Sure.

Does that negate the fact that the economic system is favored against black people though?
