Should the President need to be Christian?

How do you follow Christ in the military where you are unequally yoked with unbelievers?
Many do so. Even pacifists.

And follow their commands instead of God's?
Were we not speaking about being president? Then please show us the connection between the presidency and the Sermon on the Mount with reference to any of the Bible verses that deal with the Sermon.

The reason why I would vote for a leader who was a person of faith, is because ultimately they see themselves accountable. That being said, in Australia we have had some very unattractive leaders who held positions of significant faith, who saw their authority as a licence to impose their own wishes.

The Australian system is a bit different because we vote for local members, and the elected members of the winning party choose their leader, who becomes Prime Minister.

We don't need people to be in charge our our countries, we need people who will lead us.

Hilary Clinton is a life long United Methodist and even had a daily devotions written for her on the campaign trail.

FYI "an atheist" was suppose to be an adjective/ or adjective phrase, describing a hypothetical situation. I guess next time I will add the words "version of".

It is common knowledge that Hilary identifies as a Christian, most US politicians do.

The bottom line, Christ forbids "Christians" from using violence which rules out military service.

It rules out fighting. Our military makes accommodations for those who, for reasons of conscience, are opposed to violence. But you are still avoiding the subject you put before us--being president of the nation and also observant of the Sermon on the Mount. As we can see from the list of points from the Sermon, nothing there would absolutely prevent any Christian from performing the duties of the presidency.

No killing enemies = losing. You cannot follow Jesus in the military.

Nearly every president in the US has been a Christian. I was just wondering if that plays a major role in your decision making, or if that's just a coincidence these days...

So does your president have to be Christian? or religious..? or spiritual..? Or does that stuff not matter much compared to political views.

First, I don't have a President. There is a person that is elected to the position of President presiding over the Executive Branch of the US government. That person does not belong to me nor do I belong to that person.

Identifying as a Christian is irrelevant to whether or not that person will faithfully carry out the Constitutional duties of that office. As far as I can tell, though every President so far has identified as a Christian, none, at least in in recent memory , has properly confined themselves to carrying out the Constitutional duties of that office. Instead, with the encouragement and aid of both the Congress and the Supreme Court, Presidents have usurped power that the Constitution does not allocate to the Executive Branch. The two branches that are supposed to be in place to guard against such usurpation by the Executive Branch are complicit in it. None of this has been avoided by having people that identify as Christians placed in positions of power.

I'm sorry you couldn't back up your claims.
Read the Sermon on the Mount in an honest open fashion and see for yourself. Also, point to one instance where ANY believer defended himself with violence. Peter tried and Jesus rebuked him and all who think that way for it.

But in answer to the question you first asked us, there is no inherent reason why a Christian cannot also be a President.

The reason why I would vote for a leader who was a person of faith, is because ultimately they see themselves accountable.

This statement implies that a person without faith is less likely to see themselves as accountable.

Is that what you meant to imply?

They would refuse to kill enemies and forfeit the nation. You need the most rotten untrustworthy scoundrel that can lie his way into office in order to rule in Satan's domain.

My apologies. I haven't been functioning at 100% the last few days and apparently misread what you wrote.

That sounds really Jehovah's Witnessey.

First of all, it is usually only nominal. Second, this is America, home for people of all and no religions. Third, the particular faith is not relevant to the job unless the president is a fanatic of some kind and that would be a disaster.
