The chair of the Washington County, Pennsylvania Republican Party blasted Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) on Monday for voting to convict former President Trump in his second impeachment trial, saying the outgoing senator was not elected to “do the right thing.”

“We did not send him there to vote his conscience. We did not send him there to do the right thing or whatever he said he was doing. We sent him there to represent us,” Washington County GOP Chair Dave Ball told Pittsburgh-area CBS affiliate KDKA-TV.

Credit where credit is do. Most people at least pretend that representing them and doing the right thing are one in the same. Mr. Ball doesn’t bother to try to sugar coat the reality.

Rep. David Valadao will face an attempt to censure him at the California GOP convention this weekend for his vote to impeach Donald Trump. He is the latest Republican elected official to draw criticism from a state party over disloyalty to the former president.

Valadao has won election to Congress four times despite Democrats holding a 16-point registration edge in his district.

Successful GOP politician in California? If the CA GOP knows what's good for it, they'll leave him alone.

Most of the seven GOP senators who voted to convict Trump have been rebuked by their state parties or leaders, including North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr, Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy and Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey. The sole exception to date is Utah Sen. Mitt Romney, whose vote to convict received a statement of support from the Utah GOP as demonstrating their party has “a diversity of thought.”

“I believe our membership should vote on resolutions and make their voices heard,” he said, adding that he supports the measure honoring Limbaugh. “Regardless of this vote, we must move forward as a united party and focus on the major threat to our republic: radical far-left policies.”
Douglas County GOP to take up Sasse censure after Trump impeachment vote

Bravo the system at work. Speaking truth to power

What does this phrase mean to you, in the context of your post?

It shows that the Republican constituents are speaking the truth of their convictions to a person of power.

it is a method of demonstrating displeasure at his actions. It also represents the voters they represent

Republicans are different from Democrats in that everyone does not walk in lock step to their leaders. They have the freedom to disagree and speak against those they disagree with.

I fail to see how censuring any members that dared to vote to impeach or convict the former president shows any freedom of thought within the party. It shows the exact opposite.

For as much as Republicans have railed against cancel culture lately they sure have taken a liking to canceling each other out.

The biggest difference between the GOP and the Democrats right now is that the Republican Party is fractured and lost while the Democrats are for the most part united as a party. That’s only going to hurt the Republicans trying to win in the coming elections.

These censure votes are coming from the party organization, not constituents.

And the 'power' they are speaking to is one of their own. This is part of their own power structure.

The phrase, I deem, is usually used to describe people who are outside the power structure speaking to those inside it.

Hardy har har. All of these censure votes are being used to slap down people who dared to speak ill of Trump.

They are reflecting the voice of the voters (people outside the system) to Elected officials.

Sorry you disagree, but that is how I see it.

Looks more like they’re dictating the voice of the voters. We’ll know the true voice of the people when election time comes around again.

This is hard to credit given how many times I have seen Republicans attack anyone who does not tow the party line as a RINO and how much shade is cast upon those who disagree with Trump.

So much for the idea that 'cancel culture' is exclusive to democrats.

You didn't actually think that the GOP was against such a useful tool as Cancel Culture, did you?

They were simply envious that the Dems were better at it.

Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska stood firm against leaders of his state's Republican Party on Thursday after they advanced a censure resolution against him for decrying efforts to overturn the election results and then-President Donald Trump's involvement in the US Capitol riot.

In a video addressing members of the Nebraska GOP State Central Committee, Sasse urged the party to accept critics of the former President and remain true to conservatism as the party's future.

"Let's be clear: The anger in this state party has never been about me violating principle or abandoning conservative policy -- I'm one of the most conservative voters in the Senate -- the anger's always been simply about me not bending the knee to one guy," Sasse said.

--

This comes in the wake of Arizona's GOP getting its pitchforks together last month to go after former Senator Flake, the late Senator McCain's wife, and Gov. Ducey.

It's fascinating watching the fuddy-duddies of the GOP try to keep the extremists inside the tent, while the extremists are busy kicking the fuddy-duddies out.
This makes no sense, we live in a democracy. We support whomsoever we please, be them in our party or not. Why is this happening?

This is all happening because Putin is applying pressure on nearly all the Republicans across the country. So it is not Trump that they are terrified of, but Putin.
