People cannot discern the true Christ any more than the Pharisees did. What did Jesus say to Peter?

“He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 16:15–17 (KJV 1900)

Peter already believed in Jesus long before he ever received the Spirit.

The flesh hates God and accepts only versions of Christ it finds acceptable.

Those who are spiritually crushed and humbled by their sin will ever be willing to listen to the Gospel along with the universal convicting work of the Spirit. For Jesus was sent by the Father to save the humble and spiritually crushed.

The humble and spiritually crushed will not resist the Spirit and Word, while the proud will resist and not listen:

Psalms 25:9 (WEB)
9 He will guide the humble in justice. He will teach the humble his way.

Romans 10:17-21 (WEB)
17 So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, didn’t they hear? Yes, most certainly, “Their sound went out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” [Psalm 19:4]. . .
20 Isaiah is very bold and says,
I was found by those who didn’t seek me.
I was revealed to those who didn’t ask for me.
” [Isaiah 65:1]. 21 But about Israel he says, “All day long I stretched out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.” [Isaiah 65:2]

Acts 28:28 “Be it known therefore to you that the salvation of God is sent to the nations, and they will listen.”

Acts 7:51 (WEB) 51 “You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so you do.”

Lord Jesus was sent by the Father to preach the Gospel to the humble and heavily burdened with their sins, because they would listen and believe (Luke 4:18-19). These are the ones God wills to give to the Son, for that is why God the Father sent the Son.

Luke 4:18-19 (WEB) 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor (humble, spiritually crushed). He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed, 19 and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” [Isaiah 61:1-2]

Matthew 11:28 (WEB)
28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

Those who already believe God teaches. Peter already believe before the Spirit was ever given.
Challenge: Find faith here if you can. People in their unregenerate state.

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19–21 (KJV 1900)

Jesus said the Father revealed him to Peter.

The Disciples all believed in Jesus - even Judas believed in Jesus, but Judas wanted Jesus to begin His kingdom now. All 12 disciples of Jesus gave up everything to follow him before ever receiving the Holy Spirit to give them life.

So you say, but the Scriptures teach the we receive the Spirit and life of the Spirit by faith in Jesus.

Acts 5:32 (WEB) 32 We are His witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.

John 14:15-17 (WEB). . . 15 If you love me, keep my commandments. 16 I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever: 17 the Spirit of truth

John 14:21 (WEB) 21 One who has my commandments and keeps them, that person is one who loves me. One who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him.”

John 14:23 (WEB) 23 Jesus answered him, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him.

Acts 2:38 (WEB) 38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Spirit

The Scriptures clearly teach that the Spirit will only indwell us to give us life by an obedient faith in Jesus.

Acts 2:38 (WEB) 38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 3:2 (WEB) 2 I just want to learn this from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?

Galatians 3:5 (NIV) 5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?

Galatians 3:13-14 (WEB) 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree,” [Deuteronomy 21:23] 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Galatians 4:6 (WEB) 6 And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!”

Ephesians 1:13-14 (WEB)
13 In him you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvation—in whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a pledge of our inheritance, to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of his glory.

Only by faith does anyone receive the Spirit to give them life. That only began in the NEW COVENANT to those who believed.

Those in the Upper Room all believe before the Spirit was poured out on them.

If Jesus is the author and finisher of faith, how can anything you say about salvation be true?

Can you answer the following questions from God's Holy Word?

Faith that he gives us.

You believe God gives us faith through regeneration of the Spirit.
