Oh I agree, even if not directly. They elect representatives who embody a certain ideology.

Now I wonder if they think it was worth the savings.
Since the US government is bailing them out of their incompetence, I would suppose there's no lesson learned.
Luckily for Texans, America cares more for them than their state government does.

How? A loan from Mexico?
They get $0.94 cents back per dollar sent into the feds therefore that $0.06 per dollar clearly covers any and all federal aid in emergencies or something and they clearly deserve it much more than California that gets $0.78 per dollar sent to the feds.

Comrades! But they have Senator Ted Cancruz! He bravely sacrificed his family to return to Taxes and climb out of the hole he dug!

No the problem had to do with the generating equipment not being winterized, which it would have been if they were subject to federal regulation. But they would be able to make up the generating capacity if they were part of one of the two national grids.
Texas does not want to be on the national grid, requiring them to ration Texans for the sake of sending power to states who don't want to do the necessary work to develop their own.

Strawman. . .

I ask you the same.

I answered your question, you even quoted my interest in this. Will you answer my question?

And it’s not a straw man. It shows the importance of winterizing and how Texas could have avoided this mess if they had just done the right thing and spent a little money at the time for savings later like the rest of the United States. They had these problems (though not at the same severity) 10 years ago so this wasn’t out of left field that they could get frozen temperatures that cripple their power producing capabilities.

That 6% pay out every year would amount to something if it were kept there.

And Texas is a major border crossing, with many non-citizens using welfare.

If that’s how they really feel, they can sit in the dark with no safe drinking water. They can turn back at the border the generators, fuel, food, and water from other states to help them.

Unlike conservatives though, I will welcome refugees from the hellscape Texas has made themselves into with open arms. It’s not all of their fault have a government that turned their back on their citizens.

When they leave the union and become a failed state that situation would solve it self as economic migrants don't stop in areas like that.

Which isn't doing them a whole lot of good as citizens and non-citizens are currently freezing their spurs off.

Word of advice: now is probably not the best time to advocate going it alone.

The weaknesses that the weather revealed, and the damaged it was done, remain. Now getting back to the fantasy of an independent Texas, how do you imagine a nation who just showed the world their power grid is fatally flawed would be looking on the international stage? As I asked before, how would their currency be doing? How would the stability of their government be?

Ironically they would have inadvertently turned themselves into the Right’s favorite whipping boy, Venezuela. Sitting on energy supplies but blackouts, low on food, any corporations there looking to move out, their currency at this point would be spiraling out of control as people are desperately trying to get out of the country.

I think we need to dial back trying to dissuade them, it's our once chance to unload the gulf coast basket cases if Texas takes them.

The non-citizens might want to rethink their location.

Citizens too, in this weather -- but not everyone can afford to pull a Ted Cruz.

That raises an interesting question, would the opposition to remittances extend to those sending money home to the loan star republic?

Whatever works. . .
Becoming a failed state to dissuade illegal economic migrants. That's up there with undergoing chemo because one does not like their haircut.

They would seek shelter in non-failed states as well. But if this is Texas’s plan to get rid of undocumented residents, it’s sort of like seeing a spider on your window sill and burning your house down to kill it.

Nah... then the Texans would just be crossing the border... then we'd have to toss their children in cages and lose the paperwork.
