• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Has anyone else had bad dreams when at first trying to become a Christian?
I am reading the Bible like never before and praying for forgiveness for a life of drunkenness and sexual immorality, but every night I have dreams in which it am sexually immoral knowing I shouldn't be but powerless to stop doing it anyway, I also dream I'm wrecking other peoples cars, desperately trying to put it right but being waylaid and diverted at every turn when I try and do so, I also dream that I'm looking for a good place to go, only to find emptiness or danger when I get there, what does it all mean?

A long time ago I cried out to God to come into my life, and he came and transformed my life beyond my wildest dream's, but I didn't ask for forgiveness then, because I didn't understand my sin, but now, reading the bibe, I'm now ashamed of the things I've done, I'm trying really hard to put it right but every night it's the same thing with these bad dreams, has anyone else experienced the same thing? Or have any thoughts on what might be going on? I'd really appreciate your feedback,
Thank you.

Dreams are based upon memories. New memories eventually yield new dreams.

Also, ... it sounds like your dreams may have been a way ... to bring you to repentance for your former life.

Pray that God will give you better dreams ...

There's about 20 God given dreams in Scripture.

But we know the enemy attacks anyway he can. From the beginning "But for Cain and his offering He had no respect or regard. So Cain was exceedingly angry and indignant, and he looked sad and depressed. And the Lord said to Cain, Why are you angry? And why do you look sad and depressed and dejected? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you, but you must master it." Gen 4 We know he didnt take care of it with the Lord and slew Abel.

"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10

Made sure I had repented of my sins. Asks the Lord to remind me of anything else. Forgive anyone you need to forgive, bless them, and asks the Lord to remove any bitterness. Thank God for His faithfulness. (Eph 4:26, 31; Matt 5:44, I John 1:9).

Then you can recall Scriptures because His Word is spirit and life (John 6:63). These are favorites - "When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet." (Pro 3:34). "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust." (Psa 91:1-2) "I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth." (Psa 34:1). Then go to sleep thinking about what you want your brain to continue on for the night.

Thank you so much for the generosity of your thoughtful reply and taking the time to write it, it really is a blessing being in this group, I am very grateful.

I prayed for forgives most of yesterday and went through my sins, and I think my dreams are definitely speaking to me, last night I dreamed I had been observed being outrageously vain from outside a room, and was then invaded by thugs l had to hide from, next I dreamed that I was being taught how to fly and it was an amazing revelation I wanted to share with others, then finally I saw a bright light at the end of a tunnel appearing.. Wow!

Isaiah 1:18 Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

Isaiah 43:25
I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins

Matthew 26:28
For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins

Psalm 86:5
For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.

I have vivid dreams about my past sometimes too. I think it is just our brains way of thinking while we sleep. Last night I had a dream tigers we chasing me. I won't get into detail but I woke up kind of freaked out. I went back to sleep and the dream continued.
Glad you prayed and asked forgiveness, that's whats important.
