Hello you, lets look at what happened at the start.

If you would like to with me. (Bear with me I am tired and lazy at this point in the day).

Genesis 3:
1Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

We have someone who is more crafty. Sometimes enemies are crafty, and skillful to trick anyone that comes along their path. Coming up to Eve, asking the question about - “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

We have the women replying to the adversary - “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, -- Knowing that God did say -- ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.

4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

The adversary replied - “You will not certainly die,” “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

The adversary tricks eve into believing that eating and partaking of the tree, she would not die. Also noticing that this not listening to Gods will, and instead her own will would allow her to know good and evil, and they would be like God and their her eyes would be opened.

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Now verses 6 is interesting, we have the adversary (enemy) in the following verses nudging a person on to disobey and not listen to Gods way, and instead to listen to their own way.

Eve saw the fruit of the tree was good for food, and pleasing to the eye (she saw pleasure in what she was looking at) she also noticed how desirable it was for gaining wisdom about what the adversary had said you will know good and evil and be like God, and will not die.

She took and ate from it, the enemy (sometimes our mind) can put us up into a position for failure if we listen to it, the pleasure of the eye was enticing, also desirable to partake and eat of the fruit, to gain knowledge of good and evil, and be like God. All marked up by listening to the enemy who has no desire to care or to love us like God will by leading us in truth.

She took it to her husband and he ate it, and they realized they were naked, then made coverings.

Are there any other thoughts you would like to share here ?

Our minds our powerful and we can be enticed by our own desires, that can lead us away from listening to God, do you not think so?

If God can before us who can be against us? Our own mind is powerful enough to say one more time it wont hurt you. Can we sometimes be our own worst enemy?

When the serpent said: "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"

That was very key.

The first deception is just to suggest that God is being unfair, or capricious -- unreasonable. Not Just. Even though this one will be seemingly refuted, a seed of doubt is planted.

This deception sets up the 2nd deception, or temptation:

Genesis 3:4 "You will not surely die," the serpent told her.
Genesis 3:5 "For God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

Here the outright assertion is that God is unfairly, wrongly, withholding something good from us, for selfish reasons, as if to take advantage of us presumably.

Eve accepts this, on some level. That she can better judge.

So, then, not trusting God enough anymore -- breaking faith (faith is trust) -- she seeks to take for herself that authority or responsibility, to judge what is good and what is evil, for herself.

It's as if your 5 year old child didn't trust you when you withheld from them the authority to drive the family car, and rebelled, and went and started it and drove off down the street...
