Is the mark of the beast going to be about the papacy changing the day of the Sabbath?

Vicarius Filii Dei ..the substitution of the Son of God? The nerve of the papacy to give this title to the pope.

They used their authority to change God's Holy Day to the first day of the week? Who thought this was a good idea?

Saturday is God's Devine signature of Creation. It doesn't say anywhere in the Bible we can modify the Ten Commandments.

Isaiah 58:13
If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy day of the LORD honorable, and shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words, B3 14 then you shall delight yourself in the LORD;

The papacy that started in Rome did not have Peter sitting in the seat. Anyone can claim Peter as the first of their own organization. It's just another trick.

The little horn on the first beast ends up being the papacy.

That isn't a papal title.

Papal titles include Vicarius Christi, the Vicar of Christ, and Vicarious Petri, the Vicar of Peter. But Vicarius Fili Dei isn't a papal title, and it only shows up in conspiracy theorist anti-Catholic ramblings.

The Pope can't change the Sabbath, and the Sabbath was never changed. The Sabbath is on the seventh day, but the Church has never been under obligation to observe the Sabbath.

That is why St. Paul says in his epistle to the Colossians that the sabbaths and new moons and feast days were shadows that pointed to the true substance: Jesus Christ. And that there is no room for judgment over what days one does or does not observe, over what foods one does or not eat.

Now, the Church has always worshiped on the first day of the week, the Kyriake Hemera, the Lord's Day; also called the Eighth Day because it is the brand new day of New Creation by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And that has nothing to do with "the papacy", but everything to do with Jesus, the Apostles, and has been this way since the beginning of the Church.

You would do well to read some very basic books on the history of the Christian Church.

There are three forms of ignorance that seem to plague the modern Church:

1) Ignorance of Scripture.
2) Ignorance of Theology.
3) Ignorance of History.

Churches need to do better, and we need to do better by availing ourselves to education on these things as Christian Faithful.

One could excuse an illiterate medieval peasant for her or his ignorance, they had little to no choice in the matter. But for those of us living in an age of unprecedented access to information we have no such excuse.

It's always telling to me that these internet Sabbath-pushers tend to gravitate towards conspiracy theories regarding Rome and the early Church, rather than looking into, say, the Tewahido Orthodox churches of East Africa, as you'd think they would if they were actually interested in both worshipping on the Sabbath and being connected to at least some historical stream of Christianity.

I guess it's much more fun to be 'in the know' via crazy conspiracies than to join a normal church, but it definitely reveals a myopic focus on the Roman Empire to the exclusion of the actual breadth and depth of Christianity as it has been historically attested to since the early centuries.

That, and it's a handy indicator that the person that you're conversing with has absolutely no clue what they're talking about.

May you provide at least two or three links to the sources of these quotes? (2 Corinthians 13:1, Deuteronomy 19:15, Matthew 18:16)

Please and thank you.

The "feast of unleavened bread" is the Passover, not a normal Sabbath/7th day.

The Sabbath is Saturday, by definition. But my church services are on Sunday. After all, Jesus is my rest so every day is my day of "rest". Going to church is not celebrating the Sabbath day. They are different things. The early church met on the first day of the week. You can meet on any day you want. Jesus doesn't micromanage us.

In heaven there are no stop signs. Only yield signs. :)

Seventh-day Adventists teach that the near the end of time the "mark of the best" of Revelation 14 will be placed upon those who worship on Sunday instead of Saturday.

Mark of the Beast
Yet most of us worship on every day. My father was a member of a "branch" of the SDA that believed the worst church on the planet in the end times would be the "regular" SDA. :)

I'm neither, BTW. I loves me some meat. :D

Could you please explain to the class how the Pope had any authority in the Eastern Churches which have never accepted the idea that the bishop of Rome as a universal bishop of the Church.

The quotes you provide are totally meaningless to anyone who has even a cursory understanding of history.

Are you suggesting that the popes time-traveled back in time to the centuries before the existence of the papacy, and then forced the entire Christian Church throughout the whole world to worship on the first day of the week? Because that's the only way what you are suggesting is going to work.

The Good Cardinal was also not the Pope, so his statements, while worthy for Catholics to explore would only be his opinions as a theologian.
