That is a big part of it, yes. But I'm advocating, really, for home schooling. The internet just makes it MUCH more practical and better than public school. It is also a relationship enhancer between parents and children. It prevents them from being raised by the state and their friends.

And just like today, low quality parents will result in low quality education. And vice versa.
Circle the wagons, boys. Here they come.

At this point I think you are arguing just to argue. Either that or there is some deep set bias you have that is blocking you from seeing the obvious message here.
Even if his message is exactly what you say it is.... its built on such a backward premise that the proclamation is kind of self-sabotaging as a rhetorical device.

At this point, all I can say is that opinions vary.

I think people might be a bit dazzled by the attractive sort of George Carlin attitude the proclamation displays. And so they overlook the core feature of the actual content.

Or different people are looking for different messages.

I'm reminded of the Dan Quayle speech that mentioned Murphy Brown. It was a tiny part of a speech on a lot of different things, but that is the one thing people focused on.

And perhaps you are not the audience for Williams' satire.

I dont have to look for anything. Its staring us right in the face:

"Therefore Americans of European ancestry are guilty of great crimes against my ancestors and their progeny."

This is not some little Murphy brown detail. The whole proclamation pivots on this finding of his.

Yeah there's some true stuff there. But I certainly wouldnt recommend it on average over a class at any reputable university.

Course material is limited, internet not so much. Remember that college courses often contain social agendas.

Your missing the forest because your vision is blocked by a tree that you don't think belongs in it. I've been there myself, so I see what's going on. Problem is it's like those old computer generated drawings that you had to look at just right to see the 3D image. I can only tell you that it's there. You have to see it on your own.

Even worse. The proclamation only grants one man's forgiveness. If you accept his finding that we carry ancestral guilt - which is necessary to his point - you still have to walk in guilt with respect to the descendants of every other oppressed US ancestor, pending their forgiveness.

I do give the proclamation style points tho. Its neat looking.

Most people are not in universities. And the ones that ARE there are focusing on a very tiny set of subjects. The internet puts information at my fingertips that was unimaginable before the internet. Even if sitting in the middle of a university library, actually getting your hands on just the right information can be absurdly time consuming, even WITH the Dewey decimal system. :D

A confession: One time I was discussing a subject on science and biology with someone on the internet (this was roughly 15 years ago) and he questioned my credentials on the subject and asked me a question. I didn't have a clue what the answer was. But I am really good at Google and formed a search that got me to the key point in less than a minute. I answered his question and he apologized. :)

20 years of doing that in many, many forums on lots of subjects has actually produced genuine knowledge in my noggin. :D

I hear you.

Some years back, when gun deaths were through the roof one of the weekly news magazines featured all the fatalities that had occurred in a single week. There were about 575 if I recall correctly, each with a brief account of the details. Accompanying the data were separate editorials on murders and on suicides, decrying the use of guns and suggesting stricter gun laws. Also mentioned were the few accidental firearm deaths.

As I perused the individual accounts it occurred to me that the editorials didn't match the data, so I 'mined' the data and came to the actual conclusions that the data suggested...that there was no way new, or old, gun laws would have prevented any of those deaths, with the possible exception of a few accidental deaths.

I mused on the fact that the magazine had unwittingly provided the very evidence needed to debunk the anti-gun theory they presented in the article.

Also telling is that I cannot locate that article in any of the archives of any of those magazines. Curious.

I bet I know where those magazines with their bogus articles are: on the internet.

This article was written before the internet, late eighties if I recall. Of course the archives are on the internet...all except that article.

Oh, but the internet doesn't.

The internet doesn't withhold or lower your grade if you reject their agendas. And you get to hear "the rest of the story" (often called "the godawful truth").
