The very first sin ever, was by Satan when he wanted to be The GOD. That sin brought the idea of death, since Satan has the power of death (Hebrews 2:14-15). This is why Lord Jesus was ordained to be born of flesh woman and die on the cross, and being resurrected, conquering death for us. This is why in Revelation 21, death will be no more in God's future Eternity.

Do you then understand why wanting to be GOD in His place is a sin against Him?

Isa 14:12-17
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High."

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

I don't shove the truth away

Of course you do, so do I and most people. We shove the truth away when we want easy answers and believe the truth is easy going. The truth is hard and none of us want hard answers, we want easy answers. Yet easy is the way to Hell not Heaven. The truth, real truthful answers can be very hard to grasp and we have to grapple with that.

Sometimes for some questions there are no easy answers, especially spiritual ones. If spiritual truths were easy there would be no splits in the Church, we would all be of one mind.

No, because anyone can have sex with anyone else. Being one is not physical it is mental and spiritual, in other words what my wife says I say and vice-versa. To be one simply means we are of one mind with one purpose.

Everyone here has been trying to tell you that is what becoming one means, it has nothing to do with the physical. When the Church is one with Christ as the Bride of Christ she is of one mind and purpose with Christ. We become in perfect sync and we want the same goal. Simple if it is not overthought :)

From my very unqualified point of view, aren't we all a part of God to a certain extent? He is omnipotent and exists in all things, so isn't rejoining him (as if we've ever actually left) after death relatively understandable?

It is more accurate to say he is part of us. We are made and sustained by his word alone; but we do not comprise him. He is only himself. Anything else is other than him.

God's economy of existence does not depend in any way on us. We entirely depend on him for our existence. He is not like us. We are like him, however poorly it be so.
