Most above the age of 15 or so are pretty familiar with the history of black slavery, so the annual rehearsing of it is for the younger folks.
No they arent. They know it as a few ubiquitous factoids. But they dont understand it.

It made me think I was better I guess.

Learning about slavery made me thing i was better than the slave owners because I viewed them as heartless cruel lazy evil people. So yeah I agree I felt like I was way better than those people.

OK... next question is: what about USA culture is causing this huge disparity?

American culture, materially speaking, is good planning, hard work, and sacrifice (delayed gratification). Many blacks get this, but many don't. Many blacks spend their money on the appearance of wealth rather than accruing actual generational wealth. You could say that this is a cultural feature of the black underclass.

Nope. Incorrect inference. I'm saying all events are a part of "history". History is actually a string of individual events. In fact, how you view history is dependent on how much importance you put on those individual events.

A simple example: A person that loaths slavery in US history more than any other act in the entire history of mankind focuses on those unbelievably vicious slave owners that quite literally treated their animals better than the slaves. Meanwhile, those that make the argument that it is actually a long lasting part of human history may try to make the argument that the lives of many slaves in some homes in the north (and south) before the civil war were actually better than the lives of many blacks in many neighborhoods in urban areas in the US today.

Fact is, both are correct. That is why history is so squishy.

Im sorry please forgive my rudeness I misunderstood your position friend.

Ive lived in Texas all my life and racism here is dead. Yeah it’s not 100% gone but what race can say that 100% of their race are not racists. There will always be a small percentage of stupid people in any group. I would say that out of all the people I know probably around 1-2% are racist but I’ve lived mostly near metropolitan areas so that could also be a factor.
One thing I noticed when I moved to Rural kentucky from Seattle is they still use the word "colored" here. Both races do. Not everyone does, but a fair amount do. And as far as I'm concerned, what word you use is about the culture you are in, unless it is used in a derogatory fashion. And the only word I believe that is used that way in the US is the N word, other than the multi word insults.

This is actually why, when I juxtapose the two primary races I use the words "Caucasian" and "negro".

Funny side story: When the black man shot and killed that "hegdo" (sp?) murder in France, one of the CNN (IIRC) reporters called him "African American", and the other reporter had to correct him - ON AIR - that he appeared to be French. :D

People get way too wrapped up in labels. I used to be called a cracker in the 70's. I thought it was funny. The words aperson uses to describe other people says more about them than the person they are describing. ;)

OK. I see this too (tho I cant say how well this stereotype matches realty). But then youd need to ask how and why things got this way.

I think it goes back to their African roots. The physical appearance of wealth is very important in those cultures. "You can take the man (person) out of Africa, but you can't take Africa out of the man."

American culture = Protestant bootstrap romanticizing?

Sure, but when a white person goes bankrupt several times despite a million dollar start-up loan from his rich daddy (there's your 'generational wealth'), not only is he not generalized to be evidence of such a 'cultural feature' of the white population, but he gets to be president of the United States.

Oh brother.

You seem to know a lot about Africa. But strangely you seem to know very little about European cultures - if you think that tendency wasnt on full display there.

This is by far the most racist statement I’ve ever seen here on CF. Those kids in that video don’t know the first thing about life in Africa any more than I know about life in Ireland. That was a shameful remark.

America took a different tack. Today's millionaires are likely to keep it hidden, preferring not to advertise the fact. Of course there are always those who flaunt their wealth, and there are those who cultivate the appearance of wealth where there is none.

My comment wasn't directed at that video. The context was financial planning etc.

A lot of cultural habits of blacks can be found in Africa. Also, since the advent of "Black Studies" in the 1960's many blacks have adopted visible cultural elements from their African heritage.

This has nothing to do with an African nature, it has everything to do with a fallen nature.

studies on black behavior in the 60s? Are you kidding me right now? You know full well how biased those studies were against blacks. They were about as accurate as their studies on marijuana, total propaganda.

So you can take the euro out of the European, but you cant "take the africa out of the African". Sounds like youre describing different species of humans here.

As we hone in on your core thinking, it seems to be getting toward a sort of racist racial-essentialism.
