Realistically, I think California is the preferred target because "Hollywood"... What people might fail to realize, is that California has a very wide variety of types of areas, and Hollywood is just one of hundreds. You can find pretty much anything and everything here... It's very diverse. Like a mini-world of It's own.

...You can visit China, Mexico, England and Afghanistan on the same day. Then spend the next day in Italy or a tropical island paradise, or an Aspen-style ski resort, or a giant forest, or a barren desert.... If you know where to go.

Yes, it's a very diverse state, not just in terms of people but also in terms of geography. The climate is also a generally pleasant, Mediterranean type. None of that is free.

True. But Hawaii may be more liberal than CA. Biden/Harris won the state by more than a 29% margin. (Which I think is about the same as CA.) Its Senators and House reps (of which there are 4 in total) are all Democrats. The Governor, Lt. Governor, AG, Sec of State are all Democrats. And there are only about 4 Republicans in the state legislature. It also has the highest cost of living of all 50 states.

Voting for Biden doesn't make a person a liberal. Biden won because white independents swung for him in more numbers than they swung for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Hawaii is not so much "liberal" as a different culture. It's part of the Asian-Pacific region, and has been recognized as such since the 19th century. There's substantial numbers of Asians and many people aren't white or Christians. So you get unusual politics, like Tulsi Gabbard, a conservative Democrat, coming out of Hawaii. She's a Samoan Hindu and has a record of not supporting liberal causes.

Orange county, where I live, is pretty red. It helps to understand that the poverty rate is so high in California, due to overpopulation, in fact, a new zoning law in my area has now made it possible to build rental homes in people's backyards in the city to compensate for a lack of housing. With the homeless, they come from all over the country because of a warm, dry Mediterranean climate, and the close proximity to Mexico, means immigrants are constantly flooding the state.

...It's just overpopulated, but not necessarily poorly governed, IMO.

There's alot of NIMBY'ism, particularly in cities, which leads to red tape and an inability to build affordable housing.

It's about the same size as Japan or Sweden, and has even more habitable land than either country, so it's not even close to being overpopulated.

This is a huge deal.

Homelessness is a national issue that naturally becomes more of a CA problem. CA cannot solve the issue on its own for the whole country.

Having grown up in California, the main negatives for me are the cost of living and the overcrowding. Also somewhat boring weather.
I love this nice boring weather. A beautiful 75 degrees today. All ready have nice size tomatoes plants, that are out side. I don't like that people lose their homes to fires every year. It seems like. I do watch a garden show. And this lady taught me to appreciate the winter more. Since hers is zone 5/6. Mine is 9b. I do wish I had more land. But I hoping to find a church or friends, family place. That will allow me to plant gardens. For my enjoyment and everyone else.

Yes, I love the diversity. I'm surprised other states don't have this. It's just very natural to me.

I think it's expensive because that's how free-markets work in areas with a nearly perfect climate. It's not too humid, or cold pretty much year round. That's what makes it costly.
Wildfires and earthquakes are big tradeoffs. And there's not enough fresh water to meet demand.

CA and the other Democratic states and districts that voted Democratic are a disaster. I suppose that this why they constitute 71% of the economy.

The coasts are those states that provide a higher percentage of wealth to the feds in taxes, so that the fed can support the rural and other poor Republican states.

I don’t think I’ll ever move out of CA but if the rest of the country starts becoming more like it I may have a reason to visit more places than just the coasts.
fr fr . I wish I could wear tank tops and shorts in the middle of winter everywhere like I do in southern california . I've never seen snow in my life other than the mountains here and I'm very okay with that. You keep your snow and bad weather. We pay a premium for location. I'd rather live in a mobile home here than a mansion in kansas , kentucky or alabama.

I can see why some people would hate California. Here one can meet friendly people who speak Farsi or Tagalog. I routinely see Jews walking to Temple when out for a Saturday bike ride. I can have a shopping trip become less difficult when shopping for curry and other spices when helped by a Sikh. Where those in the fraternity of road cyclists (bicycle, though I suspect something similar for motorcyclists) see a road cyclist first and everything else after that, resulting in getting asked if I'm alright if stopped at the side of the road and asking the same when I pass a stopped cyclist.

It is a very bad place for those who want to hate others based on race or religion.

And I have seen snow in Los Angeles at least 3 times.

Making America California

The Biden administration seems determined to run
the country on the ruinous model of the Golden State.
Biden Touts California as Model for America | City Journal

"As the Biden administration settles in and begins to formulate its agenda,
progressive pundits, politicians, and activists point to California as a role
model for national policy. If the administration listens to them, it would
prove a disaster for America’s already-beleaguered middle and working classes.

Make America California Again? That's Biden's plan

"California is emerging as the de facto policy think tank of the Biden-Harris
administration and of a Congress soon to be under Democratic control.
-
Considering so many people want to live there, and it’s economy is the 5th largest in the world, it seems making the rest of America more like CA would be a step up in most places.

There's a little spot I like in Echo Park called Combo A... It's close to Dodgers stadium. It's just a little Chinese fast-food joint, but they have the best rice noodles ever, IMO, and potato chicken.

...But everyone's taste is unique. Personally, I'll travel up the I-5 from OC just to get it.

I like the Echo Park area. I took the kids on the swans last year, it was fun:

Another fun day-trip I like is taking the train down to San Juan Capistrano... We can get on at the ARTIC station:

Then we travel south 30 minutes and go visit the old Spanish Mission and eat at the Hummingbird Cafe:

Another fun one is Angel's flight in LA...

...It's right across the street from the Grand Central Market, where you can get food from around the world.

That's not true; California has something for everyone. I lived up in Red Bluff for a number of years. At the time, the next county down the valley--Glenn County--was said to have the highest per capita Klan membership of any county in the country. I doubt if things have changed very much. ;)

Right. People dont know that CA is huge and parts of it can be as "backwoods" as anywhere else in the country. Its an exceedingly diverse state.

California revenues soar by billions as rich get richer during pandemic

But California’s bank account is overflowing. As of January, the state’s tax collections were $10.5 billion ahead of projections. By the end of the fiscal year on July 1, Gov. Gavin Newsom and the state Legislature could have a $19 billion surplus to spend.

It’s so much money that, for just the second time ever, the state is projected to trigger a state law requiring the government to send refunds to taxpayers.

That [richest] 1% had a pretty good year in 2020, financially speaking. The stock market is 16% above its pre-pandemic high in February 2020. A slew of California tech companies, led by Airbnb and DoorDash, debuted on the stock market last year, adding to the state’s population of millionaires and billionaires.

The Newsom administration projects Californians will earn $185 billion from capital gains — the most ever — resulting in $18.5 billion in tax revenue for the state.

But California’s windfall means it can increase spending at a time when many people can’t. Last week, Newsom signed off on $7.6 billion in new spending, including more than $2 billion in grants for struggling small businesses and $3.6 billion to send $600 one-time payments to nearly 5.7 million people.

Cmon now. California is a mis-managed Democratic state, with mis-mnaged Democratic cities, with more immigrants and more languages spoken than in any other country. California is all that Republicans despise.

This is one of the reasons I have been posting about a smaller federal government, and allowing the states to fend for themselves. California is sending out its own stimulus checks!

Right. Why should my hard-earned tax dollars go to support poor Republican states?

It's a tax penalty for not being a real 'murican.
