I admit there are some Christian groups who misinterpret God's Word and stock up on guns for possibly some apocalyptic battle royale (how do you spell this word?) in the end times but too many people in this country really don't understand the US Constitution's 2nd Amendment. Its there to protect us from the tyranny of others (being our own government or a foreign power).

By the way, what did Peter use to cut the ear off of the soldier at the Garden of Gethsemane? A sword. Yes Jesus told him to put away his sword but it seemed Jesus was comfortable with Peter having it when they went to the garden. Jesus didn't tell Peter to leave his sword at home because swords are bad. We have the right to defend ourselves from people attacking us. In this day and age a gun seems to be the weapon of choice to defend ones family, home and goods.

But yes I do get a little nervous when I see signs that read God, Guns, and Country. We are called to be peace makers so we should strive always to find a peaceful resolution to our differences and use a gun (if you feel that's what you need) to defend yourself.

...and what happened that time one of His disciples actually used a sword?
Luke 22: 49-51 said:
49 When those who were around Jesus saw what was about to take place, they asked, “Lord, should we attack with our swords?” 50 Then one of them struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear.

51 But Jesus said, “No more of this!” So he touched the wounded man’s ear and healed him.
so if we intend on using "a sword" shouldn't we also be prepared to instantly heal anyone that get's hurt with it? Because it would seem that's how Jesus did it.

From your link:

Many Melburnians fled the city in the three months to September.
Australian Bureau of Statistics data reveals 7445 people left Greater Melbourne, with more than three-in-five of them moving to regional Victoria.

Around 7500 people left a city of almost 5 million. In other words, 0.15%. And many of those were students or others moving to nearby towns for work or because they could work from home during the covid lockdown and didn't need to be in the city.

If that's a "mass exodus" then the annual Christmas road trip many Victorians take to beachside towns in the northern states must be the zombie apocalypse

This is just Biblical evidence of the fact that God doesn't heal everyone that is sick and doesn't raise everyone from the dead. That's why it's called a miracle when it happens. It's not an everyday occurance to everyone. Even Jesus didn't heal every single person who was sick.

The lame man at the pool was the only person he healed there.

In Mark Keys tells us that they that believe in him will do great things. He didn't specify it was only the apostles. On James 5 we are told that elders of the church can pray for healing and people can be healed.

I think the mistake is made when we look at things in a black and white mode. Miracles are for today, but not for everyone. The scripture proves that. Not everyone is healed all the time. Not everyone is raised from the dead all the time. So it's not an all or nothing proposition.

Miracles are mission-purposed. Christ never did a miracle just for winks and giggles. Most people look for signs for fleshly reasons. Others think God is Santa Claus.

But in fact, the Lord is all about His mission, and everything He does is for the sake of His mission. Christians who put themselves in line with His mission will find they get the miracles they need to accomplish their fragment of His mission, and what they don't get...they didn't need.

So it looks like I have to reply to your thread again because some how my last reply went missing. Anyway, if someone is attacking my home with my family and I in it I have the right to protect my family. St Thomas Aquinas said "If a man in self-defense uses more than necessary violence, it will be unlawful; whereas if he repels force with moderation, his defense will be lawful.... Nor is it necessary for salvation that a man omit the act of moderate self-defense to avoid killing the other man, since one is bound to take more care of one's own life than of another's (St Thomas Aquinas, Summa theologiae II-II, 64,7,corp. art.)

The Catechism of the Catholic Church adds "Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for someone responsible for another's life, the common good of the family or of the state" (CCC 2265).

So as I said before if I injure or kill someone in protecting my home, my family or myself, as soon as the scene is secure, I will call an ambulance and the police to handle the rest. Unfortunately, I don't have the healing powers Jesus has to heal people but will try to help them as best I can till help comes.
