The 346-page Government Accountability Office document, much longer than most, outlines broad Trump administration failures so alarming that the normally circumspect auditors pronounced themselves “deeply troubled.” That constitutes an anguished cry from an office that prides itself on just-the-facts, albeit dull, reports.

Almost 90 percent — 27 of 31 — of the GAO’s recommendations from June, September and November “remained unimplemented” as of Jan. 15, less than a week before Trump left office. The document was released last week.

The report details a bungled Trump administration response to a virus that has killed over 445,000 Americans, far more than in any other nation. Former HHS Secretary Alex Azar and a spokesperson for Trump did not respond to requests for comment. Neither did current HHS officials.

Per capita, the US ranks #3 in cases among countries with at least 1 million citizens, on par with Slovenia and Panama. And #8 in deaths, on par with North Macedonia and Bulgaria. The US still averages 3,000+ deaths per day.

I kinda laugh that Trump supporters list all the things he did; as though signing some documents your inept servile lackies produce for you is productive and helpful. These were not and are not people with any legitimate experience in dealing with these kinds of situations so listening to them seems to be a terrible idea.

To be fair though, his supporters are kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place:

Either Trump had a GREAT hands on attitude and worked hard to combat COVID with innovative ideas all from his own really big brain and best words, and utterly failed (it's just that his policies were an absolutely unmitigated disaster based on ignorant and terrible decision making.)

OR He was incompetent and did nothing.

I guess there is the option that "the poor guy did everything he could. Stop attacking him". Of course, when trained experts indicate huge holes in the plan, it is an affront to reality and exposes you as the victim of abuse, to take this stance.

I want to know if, and how, people will be held accountable for all of this negligence. It seems we are learning that politicians and government officials can commit high crimes without consequence. A parent who lets their child starve goes to prison. What about a President who lets their people die?

Probably not, unless actual laws were broken.

A president who cuts food benefits to millions of needy people is just enacting Republican policy.
I really want to eliminate the office of the President. It’s just too much power for one person. And I want to interview some of the people in his administration who went along with all of it, and hear how they rationalized it. Just ranting...

That sounds very much like the Biden administration so far.

America was always on a sticky wicket with COVID-19. Terrible health service for tens of millions of people, fractured health infrastructure, a population rife with conspiracy nuts and religious zealots, and a former president who does not understand even slightly complicated things propped up by soulless enablers who sole intent seems to be self enrichment.

You guys never really had a chance.

Yes. Donald was bad enough at his job that it took him years to match what a real leader's been able to do in a few weeks.

Glad people are finally coming around to realizing what actually happened over the past 4 years.

Yes is is amazing that in such a short time Biden can sign more executive orders killing more jobs and doing more harm to the public in general than Trump was able to do in four years. And he has done so much to bring our nation together, soon we will all be broke and jobless. Thanks Joe

Jobless and broke? That's rich coming from a supporter of a guy whose administration oversaw the highest unemployment level since the Great Depression and the largest deficit in history.

That statement is taking maximum advantage of Covid-19 which makes it a little less than fair, and very biased.

And kills jobs, and governs by executive order. Wait until those executive orders start having adverse results and the public starts discovering that they had no voice in things that are hurtful to them. I would not want to be a Dem needing to get reelected in two years, I see a major spanking on the way.

Fair? Who cares about being fair after decades of Republican steamrolling any notion of fairness in political discourse?

What sauces the goose, sauces the gander.

Well that's what happenned to Trump and what happens to many others so yeah, wouldn't be too surprised.
I will continue to wait for the EOs to have adverse results though. You're talking about "adverse results" like "cleaner air" right?

I don’t recall you giving Obama any such tolerance over an economic crisis that happened before he even took office, so Trump can own what actually did happen under his.
