Isaiah 51:4 Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation:
for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a
light of the people.

Matthew 12:
18
Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well
pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he
send forth judgment unto victory.
21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.

When something doesn't make sense, more often than not it's a KJV vs contemporary English problem.

In Isa 51:4 and Mat 12:18 the Hebrew word "mishpat" and the Greek "krisis" mean "justice" and modern translations render the words appropriately. Now these passages make sense :).

justice=righteous judgment
John 7:24. Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.

mishpat [H4941]<shaphat [H8199] to judge
mishpat is translated other ways, such as ordinances, but when a judge gives a ruling,
it is a judgment. What is interesting to this point is how often mishpat is paired with tzedakah

Psalm 103:6. The LORD executes righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.
Can an unrighteous ruling from an unrighteous judge ever be justice?
Does righteousness include mercy?

I think immediately of the judgement on the Egyptians during the crossing of the red sea. This was a bright light but amazingly soon forgotten...
The Isaiah prophecies pertain to Messiah though, quoted in Matthew 12
Isaiah 42:
1 Behold! My Servant whom I uphold,
My Elect One in whom My soul delights!
I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.
2 He will not cry out, nor raise His voice,
Nor cause His voice to be heard in the street.
3 A bruised reed He will not break,
And smoking flax He will not quench;
He will bring forth justice for truth.
4 He will not fail nor be discouraged,
Till He has established justice in the earth;
And the coastlands shall wait for His law.

Isaiah 51:4 Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation:
for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my (righteous) judgment to rest for a
light of the people.

"Torah [teaching] shall proceed from Me" The words that Messiah spoke for judgment.

John 12:
46
I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.
47 And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to
judge the world but to save the world.

48 He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that
I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

49 For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command,
what I should say and what I should speak.

50 And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as
the Father has told Me, so I speak.

All scripture is profitable for torah [instruction in righteousness] 2 Timothy 3:16
