He said My sheep shall know My voice, didn't He? Let me tell you of just one example. Many years ago I was hitch-hiking near a city in New Zealand. As I walked out of the city the Lord said to me "See that house on the hill, go and knock on the door." After a little hesitation I obeyed Him and walked up to the house and knocked on the door. The Lord gave me a vision showing me everything he had done for work, which made the guy's jaw drop in amazement, He also showed me that the guy was now unemployed and felt like his life wasn't worth living. The end result was that he confessed to me that my going there was an answer to prayer and he gave his life to the Lord. I got a ride to my destination straight after that event. Now I know you will not understand this, but I don't need to read my Bible to have a relationship with the Lord. The fellowship I have with Him is sweet and precious. The book is called Revelation (singular) and not Revelations (plural).
So you believe that Christians today can hear the audible voice of God? What is their walk like? Are they living a holy life as a result? Do they ever receive contradictory messages? Do the prophecies they receive sometimes fail?
See, I believe God speaks only through His Word alone because adding new prophecy and or hearing new words from God would mean that our experiences should be on equal authority with the Holy Scriptures. We should add other books to the Bible (if such were the case). But we know this is not the case, though. Thus, this means we cannot receive new words, or prophecy to us today. The Bible is all we need for all matters of faith, and practice.
