How To Stop Using Google Search On Your Computer And Phone

Since 2016, according to multiple reports, Google’s algorithm has been increasingly manipulated to bury and elevate specific information, especially politically charged information. This appears to have strong effects on what people believe and therefore how they vote and respond to polls that inform what politicians do with their power.

A 2018 Wall Street Journal investigation concluded, “The internet giant uses blacklists, algorithm tweaks and an army of contractors to shape what you see.” It reported, among other things:
...
In 2016, American Institute for Behavioral Research and Technology psychologist Robert Epstein published research showing Google hid negative information about Hillary Clinton. The self-described center-left researcher has also published research showing that hiding information like this influences election results. He testified before the Senate in 2019 about this subject.
...
Use Brave for your browser on all your screens (phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, etc.).

Brave will not only get you away from Google’s Chrome browser that your phone uses if you have an Android (Google) system, it will also get you using the search engine DuckDuckGo instead of Google.

Brave is run by Mozilla founder Brendan Eich, who was kicked out of his own tech company for contributing a small amount to a California campaign to recognize male-female marriage as the only one that matters to society (because it’s the only one that organically generates children). Eich is a free speech advocate, and therefore Brave has a reputation for offering far better privacy than the browsers used as data vacuums by bigs like Google, Apple, and Microsoft
.
There's always a curious irony when a business intentionally seeks to alienate a large portion of its customer base.

Personally, I've never used 'Brave' as a browser but I have migrated to Duckduckgo for searching. It's a far better search engine than Google for anything politically oriented, especially when mobile. It's also faster, no doubt due to the fact that it's not constantly collecting information on you.

Brave is a good browser, and I recommend it. It is my back up browser. Vivaldi runs circles around it, IMO, and also defaults away from Google and has other search engines on board, such as DDG.

I used DDG for years, until during the election I found them cooking Biden image results for the US region. Queries through two venues returned no responses from DDG. I switched to Qwant.

What is Google's product?

You are.

Who are Google's customers?

People that want to make money off of you or otherwise manipulate or watch you.

Who needs Google?

I've also weaned myself off of gmail, after many years there. Don't miss it at all. OpenStreetMaps does most of what I need GMaps for. The only thing I still have is Google Voice; working on getting rid of that.

Hey @NightHawkeye . Care to comment on Joe Biden being the president? I remember you spamming threads in hopes that the election is overturned. I hope you demand your money back from anyone who told you that the election is overturned.

Oh look, more conservative claims of martyrdom. Google does not care that you are conservative and they are not actively trying to sabotage your search results. Google has enough ethical issues without making things up to appear persecuted.

Misquoted and misunderstood: Why many in the search community don't believe the WSJ about Google search

What turned me from Google maps is that they kept a record of EVERYWHERE my phone went, going way back. I deleted all of that but I still wonder if they have records of my movement somewhere even still. Could I believe them if they said they didn't?

Is your phone android? Because if so, then yes, they have a record of everywhere you go. Same with apple for iPhone.

Do you think anybody cares where you went?

I get around that by not having internet on my phone.

Probably not. If you delete your FB account, for instance, last I knew they still retain it archived.

How to delete Google history and data points the way to learning what G has on you and how to deal with it. Perhaps.

For me, google only has my youtube history. They can have that.
You can enhance that by using an anti-tracker in the browser. Otherwise G and FB follow you around wherever you go. Brave and Vivaldi have anti-trackers built in.

There also are youtube alternatives. They are good and getting better, but at this point they lack the volume and range of videos that YT has.

I don't use facebook, and as I said, google knows pretty much nothing about me except my youtube video history. I want them to save that, because it is very usefull for me and I don't mind them knowing this stuff.

Can you explain further. Also you mentioned moving from Gmail (which is threatening to shut down all accounts that do not give them full identity disclosure). What is your option that would not do the same to satisfy the control Silicone Valley demands?

Everybody cares where you went.
You, maybe. You must be an important bigshot. As for me, I'm just an ordinary guy and nobody particular cares where I go, and I don't care if they know anyway.
