I wholeheartedly agree with you! That was my point.

There are people who quote from sections of the Book of Job that God denounces in later chapters. They quote as if they are speaking the Word of God. But they are speaking the errant words of men within the Word of God. I think it is incredibly important we know whether the inspired Word, as shared in full context, is to be attributed to a man in error or a godly man truly inspired to say what He said or God Himself.

And Jesus didn't quote jezebel's words. He quoted God's Words. Jezebel's words, though recorded in Scripture, do not have life in them. God's Words have life, never return void, are watched over to be preformed, and inspire faith.

When Scripture says that the Word of God shall not return void, it meant that the life of Jesus would bear fruit. This is exactly the problem with calling Scripture the W/word of God. It confuses the issue as to what Scripture is saying. Another Scripture that is often confused is Heb 4:12 For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. This is talking about Jesus, not the Scriptures!

The Bible is the inspired word of God, however you need the Church to know what the Apostles and Early Christians thought. Otherwise you will end up with both super literal and super metaphorical interpretations as you have seen in this thread.
Can you please show me in Scripture where it actually states that the Bible is the Word of God? I see plenty of instances where Jesus is referred to as the Word of God, but have not seen one Scripture that states that Scripture is the Word of God. Scripture contains God's words, yes. All Scripture is inspired by God, yes. But show me a Scripture that says that Scripture is the W/word of God so that I can believe it.

I agree with the Scripture
16 Every scripture inspired of God [is] also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness.

17 That the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work.
But it doesn't say that the Bible is the Word of God. It refers to SCRIPTURE! According to my reading of the Bible there is only ONE Word of God, His name is Jesus. So why is this important? It's important because if you read Scripture with the understanding that the Bible is the Word of God, then the Bible points to itself, but if you understand that Jesus is the Word of God, then the Bible points to Him, which is what God designed it to do.

You say that the Scriptures are not the Word of God.
This is untrue.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” (Proverbs 30:5).

“And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” (Luke 4:4).

The Bible talks about the Word of God as being in reference to Jesus, and also as in reference to the communicated Word (Scripture or the Spoken Word of God). Here is...

The Symbiotic Relationship Between
The Living Word, & the Communicated Word:

  1. Christ is good (John 10:11, John 10:14), and the word is good (1 Kings 2:42).

  2. Christ is the truth (John 14:6), and the word is the truth (John 17:17).

  28. Christ is to be heard and obeyed (Matthew 7:24), and the word is to be heard and obeyed (James 1:22).

  29. The love of God is within Christ (Romans 8:39), and keeping the word places the love of God within us (1 John 2:5) (Also see John 14:23).

  30. Christ is the way to the living waters, which is the Holy Spirit (John 7:37-39), and the washing of the water of the word (Ephesians 5:25-27) (which is obedience to God) is the way to having the Spirit (Acts of the Apostles 5:32).

  31. Christ is like the foundation that is a part of a house (1 Corinthians 3:9, 1 Corinthians 3:11), and He is like a rock (1 Corinthians 10:4), and the obeying the word is like a house built upon the rock (Matthew 7:24).

  32. Believers are to follow after the steps of Christ (1 Peter 2:21), and believers are to order their steps in the word (Psalms 119:133).

..41. Christ is called a seed (Galatians 3:16), and the word is called a seed (1 Peter 1:23, Luke 8:11) (Note: See my post below here for further details).

The communicated word of God that we have today is the Bible.

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11).

Jesus (the Living Word) was sent by the commandment (mouth) of the Father. Jesus said and did everything the Father told Him to do (John 12:49) (John 14:31).

What is interesting is that the Living Word accomplished that which the Father commanded Him to do and to prosper (accomplish) that thing He sent to do (i.e. Jesus suffered on the cross, and said, “It is finished” and died for man’s sins). Jesus was risen three days later, and ascended to the Father. God’s Word (the living Word) did not return void by whom the Father sent.

The communicated Word can also be sent out and not return void, as well. For many have believed and have stayed faithful to what God’s Word says.

In the creation: The Word made flesh (John 1:1, John 1:14) (i.e. Christ) created everything. In the beginning God spoke words to bring forth the creation in six days (Genesis 1:1-31).

So in the beginning was the Living Word, and the communicated Word.

In the end of this sinful world: Christ will return (Revelation 19:11-21) and a sharp sword will proceed from His mouth. This sword could be the “sword of the Spirit,” (Which is the Word of God) or it could be symbolic of such (Ephesians 6:17).

So in the end there will be the Living Word, and the communicated Word.

For at Christ’s return: His name is called The “Word of God.” (Revelation 19:13) (Living Word).

On His thigh, and vesture is a name written (words) “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” (Communicated Word).

Jesus was beaten to a pulp and crucified on a tree.

The Word we have today (the Bible) is a result of pulp made from a tree.

Jesus was the Word made flesh (covered in skin).

The Word we have today (the Bible) is popular to be available covered in skin (leather).

If you read all those Scriptures again with the understanding that Jesus alone is the Word of God you would receive revelation that would change your life and your understanding of Scripture and your relationship with the Lord, dramatically!!

  39. Christ can make our joy full (John 15:11), and the word can make our joy full (1 John 1:4).

  40. Believers’ hearts rejoice with Christ (John 16:22), and believers’ hearts rejoice with the word (Jeremiah 15:16).

You say that the Scriptures are not the Word of God.
This is untrue. How come Jesus never referred to Scripture as the W/word of God?

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” (Proverbs 30:5). When you look at the Greek word for Every, it can be interpreted many ways, including “the whole”, so it would not be wrong to say that the very Word of God is pure, which Jesus is. This also fits in better with that verse referring to the Word of God as He.

“And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” (Luke 4:4). Once again, the term every is a translation issue. It is Jesus whom we should live by.

This was referring to something that was said, not Scripture as a whole.
  2. Christ is the truth (John 14:6), and the word is the truth (John 17:17). John 17.17 Jesus was talking about Himself in the 3rd person. Jesus is the truth as stated in John 14.6
  3. Christ is called Faithful and True (Revelation 19:11), and the word is called faithful and true (Revelation 22:6). One and the same.
  4. Christ is pure (1 John 3:3), and the word is pure (Proverbs 30:5). Pro 30:5 Every (Better interpretation, The Very Word of God..) word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
  5. Christ is incorruptible (Acts of the Apostles 2:27), and the word is incorruptible (1 Peter 1:23). 1Pe 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the living Word of God, and abiding forever. We are born again through receiving the Word (Christ), not Scripture. The Word of God mentioned here is clearly referring to Jesus.
  6. Christ abides forever (John 12:34), and the word abides forever (1 Peter 1:23). As above
  7. Christ’s name: “Jesus” is above all names (Which would include God’s name) (Philippians 2:9-10), and the word is above God’s name (Psalms 138:2). Psalms 138.2 is referring to Jesus as the Word. That was His name before He was born and called Jesus, and is still His name today Rev 19.13
  8. Christ has flaming eyes of fire (Revelation 19:12), and the Word is like a fire (Jeremiah 23:29). Jer 23.29 is referring to Jesus
  9. Christ can burn things like a fire (Matthew 3:12), and the word can burn things like a fire (Luke 24:32). This passage does not refer to the Scriptures as the Word.
  10. Christ can be eaten (John 6:57), and the word can be eaten (Jeremiah 15:16). Jer 15.16, once again an interpretation issue. The Hebrew for words and word are one and the same. If I was to paraphrase this, it would read, “I discovered your Word (Jesus) and devoured Him (completely received Him), and He to me was gladness and joy…”
  11. Christ is like the discovery of treasure (Matthew 13:44-46, cf. 2 Corinthians 4:7-10), and the word is like the discovery of treasure (Psalms 119:162). Once again, Ps 119.162 is referring to Jesus. He was called The Word of God in the Old Testament. Jn 1.1
  12. Christ is the light (John 8:12), and the word is light (Psalms 119:105). Ps 119.105 is talking about Jesus. Jesus is the Word of God. In earlier verses he talks about keeping commandments/law.
  13. Christ is life (John 14:6, 1 John 5:12), and the word is life (John 6:63). John 6.63 says “the words that I speak..” which is different from the Word (rhema vs logos)
  14. Christ is the living bread (John 6:51), and the word is the living bread (Matthew 4:4). Matt 4.4 more correctly translated would read “The very Word that proceeds from the mouth of God” who is of course, Jesus.
  15. Christ is eternal life (Romans 6:23, 1 Timothy 6:16, 1 John 5:20) and the word is eternal life (John 6:68) (cf. Matthew 24:35, John 6:63). Jesus is eternal life. He is the Word of God.
  16. Christ quickens (makes alive) (John 5:21), and the word quickens (makes alive) (Psalms 119:50). Psa 119:50 This is my comfort in my affliction; for Your Word has given me life. It is Jesus who gives us life. He is the Word of God! Scripture can’t give us life, but it does point us towards Him who can give us life!
  17. It is by Christ which makes the gospel possible (1 Corinthians 15:1-4), and it is by the word which makes the gospel possible (1 Peter 1:25). 1 Peter 1.25 but the Word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the Word preached as gospel to you. – Jesus endures forever. You won’t be taking your Bible to Heaven. The Word (Jesus) is the gospel (truth).
  18. Christ is near to men (Acts of the Apostles 17:27) (Revelation 3:20) (Psalms 145:18), and the word is near to men (Romans 10:8). Rom 10:8 But what does it say? "The Word is near you, even in your mouth and in your heart"; that is, the Word of Faith which we proclaim; - In this passage, word is rhema, which refers to a revelation, not Scripture as a whole.
  19. Christ discerns the heart (Matthew 9:4, Luke 9:47), and the word discerns the heart (Hebrews 4:12). Read Hebrews 4.12 carefully. It is referring to Jesus as the Word. The Bible cannot discern your thoughts!
  20. Christ can get men through a storm (Mark 4:35-41), and the word can get men through a storm (Matthew 7:24-25). Matt 7.24-25 does not refer to the Word.
  21. Christ sanctifies (John 17:19), and the word sanctifies (John 17:17). John 17:17 Sanctify them through Your truth. Your Word is truth. – Word here is logos, as it is in John 1.1, referring to Jesus. Jesus is the truth!

  1. A person can stumble over Christ (Romans 9:33, 1 Peter 2:5-8), and a person can stumble over the word (1 Peter 2:8). 1 Pet refers to those who stumble at the Word (logos, Jesus)
  2. Christ will judge men (John 5:22), and the word will judge men (John 12:48). John 12.48 refers to the rhema (revelation) as well as the logos, Jesus Himself.
  3. Christ’s bones were never broken (John 19:36 cf. Psalms 34:20), and the word is never broken (John 10:35). One and the same. The Word is the name Jesus had in the Old Testament (as well as in the New).
  4. Believers are told to seek after Christ (Matthew 28:5, Mark 16:6), and believers are told to seek after the word (Isaiah 34:16). Isaiah 34.16 is referring to prophesy.
  5. Christ is our hope (1 Thessalonians 1:3, Colossians 1:27, 1 Timothy 1:1), and the word is our hope (Psalms 130:5). Once again, referring to Jesus in Psalm 130.5
  6. Believers are to have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16), and believers are to meditate (use their mind) upon the word (Psalms 119:148, 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV). This is talking about meditating on Jesus.
  7. Christ is to be heard and obeyed (Matthew 7:24), and the word is to be heard and obeyed (James 1:22). James 1:22 But become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. – Do you hear your Bible? No, but you do, or should, hear what Jesus (the Word) says to you.
  8. The love of God is within Christ (Romans 8:39), and keeping the word places the love of God within us (1 John 2:5) (Also see John 14:23). The Word (Jesus) reveals God’s love to us. We can read about this in Scripture.
  9. Christ is the way to the living waters, which is the Holy Spirit (John 7:37-39), and the washing of the water of the word (Ephesians 5:25-27) (which is obedience to God) is the way to having the Spirit (Acts of the Apostles 5:32).Jesus is the Word of God, it is Him who cleanses us!
  10. Christ is like the foundation that is a part of a house (1 Corinthians 3:9, 1 Corinthians 3:11), and He is like a rock (1 Corinthians 10:4), and the obeying the word is like a house built upon the rock (Matthew 7:24). Obeying Jesus
  11. Believers are to follow after the steps of Christ (1 Peter 2:21), and believers are to order their steps in the word (Psalms 119:133). Order their steps as shown by Jesus
  12. Christ breathed the Spirit upon his faithful chosen (John 20:22), and the word is “inspired by God” (i.e. God breathed) for the benefit of his faithful chosen (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It says "All Scripture is inspired by God" it doesn't refer to Scripture as the Word of God.
  13. Christ is the way to having the fruits of righteousness (Philippians 1:11), and the word is the way to being instructed in righteousness so to be perfect unto all good works (fruits) (2 Timothy 3:16-17). I don't know about you, but it is the Word (Jesus) who instructs me. The Bible says that this is how we are to live (knowing His voice).
  14. Christ can abide in us (John 15:4-7) (Ephesians 3:17) (Philippians 4:13), and the word can abide in us (John 15:7, Psalms 119:11). Jesus is the Word who abides in us. The Bible can't live in us, but we can have memory verses, which is way different to having Jesus LIVING in us!!
  15. Christ dwells in our hearts (Ephesians 3:17), and the word dwells in our hearts (Colossians 3:16). One and the Same. Jesus IS the Word.
  16. Believers can be hidden in Christ (Colossians 3:3), and the word can be hidden in believers (Psalms 119:11). One and the same, Jesus!
  17. Christ is always with us (Matthew 28:20), and the word is always with us (Psalms 119:98). Ps 119.98 is referring to Jesus. He was called the Word of God in the Old Testament.
  18. Christ can make our joy full (John 15:11), and the word can make our joy full (1 John 1:4). Jesus IS the Word. One and the same.
  19. Believers’ hearts rejoice with Christ (John 16:22), and believers’ hearts rejoice with the word (Jeremiah 15:16). As above.
..41. Christ is called a seed (Galatians 3:16), and the word is called a seed (1 Peter 1:23, Luke 8:11) (Note: See my post below here for further details). As above

The communicated word of God that we have today is the Bible. This is not Scripturally correct. Scripture is never referred to as The Word anywhere, whereas Scripture clearly states that Jesus is the Word.

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11). Jesus was the Word that went forth from the Father. Yes and amen.

Jesus (the Living Word) was sent by the commandment (mouth) of the Father. Jesus said and did everything the Father told Him to do (John 12:49) (John 14:31). Yes, the Word is Jesus

Exactly! Jesus (the Word of God) did not return to His Father void!

The communicated Word can also be sent out and not return void, as well. For many have believed and have stayed faithful to what God’s Word says. There is no Scripture that says Scripture is the Word of God. Call it the message of God by all means, but the Word is the name/title given to Jesus.

In the creation: The Word made flesh (John 1:1, John 1:14) (i.e. Christ) created everything. In the beginning God spoke words to bring forth the creation in six days (Genesis 1:1-31). God spoke and the Word went forth to create. Jesus (as the Word) created all things Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him, and without Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being.

So in the beginning was the Living Word, and the communicated Word. One and the same.

In the end of this sinful world: Christ will return (Revelation 19:11-21) and a sharp sword will proceed from His mouth. This sword could be the “sword of the Spirit,” (Which is the Word of God) or it could be symbolic of such (Ephesians 6:17). Referring to Jesus.

So in the end there will be the Living Word, and the communicated Word. One and the same.

For at Christ’s return: His name is called The “Word of God.” (Revelation 19:13) (Living Word). Absolutely!! That is His name, His title. Don’t give His name to the Book!

On His thigh, and vesture is a name written (words) “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” (Communicated Word). Actual Word. Jesus IS the Word.

Jesus was beaten to a pulp and crucified on a tree.

The Word we have today (the Bible) is a result of pulp made from a tree. Stretching things here bro.

Jesus was the Word made flesh (covered in skin). Are you suggesting that Jesus is the Bible covered in flesh??? Hope I’m wrong in thinking this!

The Word we have today (the Bible) is popular to be available covered in skin (leather). Stretching things once again.

Have a look at my page Word of God

I think this explains it quite well. God bless.

You are basically saying that my Bible is wrong, and that you know more than the 47 translators who translated it.

I am just a simple person. I just read my Bible and believe it. I am not looking to make the Word of God fit the interpretation that I like or prefer.

People can make the Bible say whatever they want it to say by pointing to the original languages because folks would be none the wiser because we don't have an apostle Paul to check our Greek, and we don't have Moses to check our Hebrew.

You are not a Koine Greek expert and you don't have a time machine to check your Biblical Greek. I believe the Word of God is preserved today as the Bible says (Psalms 12:6-7). This means that people today will have a perfectly preserved Word of God in a language that people are familiar with today.

Paul says, “Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:” (2 Corinthians 3:12). While Paul wrote this in the Greek in his time, it logical to conclude that God has not changed and that God still wants us to use great plainness of speech because of the hope we have. So this means His Word should be plain and easy to understand today. There has to be a Word of God that we can be held accountable to whereby it is not in a language that is almost viritually impossible for us to know. I believe the KJB (circa. 1900 Cambridge Edition) is the pure Word of God today. If you don't accept that as the Word of God, you are making the Word say what you feel it should say based on piecing together what scholars you like or prefer in their interpretation of the Greek. I just trust God preserved His Word as the Bible says. I believe the cover of my Bible that says it is a “Holy Bible” and not a “holey bible” that is full of holes or errors as many in the OAO (Orignal Autograph Only) camp says.

Psalms 11:3 says,
“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

You essentially said the Bible cannot abide in a person. This is false.

Jesus says, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” (John 15:7).

So according to Jesus: Both the Living Word and the communicated Word can abide in person.

King David said,
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” (Psalms 119:11).

I seriously doubt that David knew of Jesus or the Living Word.
He was referring to God's communicated Word.

For how did Jesus defeat the devil?

He quoted Scripture.

In short, what you are teaching is clearly false.
The Word of God is not exclusively referring to the Living Word alone.
The Word of God can refer to either the Living Word or the Communicated Word.

We did study some Greek in Bible College when I attended there some years ago, but the reality is that I have only repeated what the Lord taught me. When He told me that the Word of God was the name given to Jesus and it was mistakenly given to the Bible I responded by reading Scripture and every time what the Lord told me didn't seem to work I questioned Him about it and He always gave me an answer that was an eye opener. One such example was Rev 1:2 who bore record of the Word of God and of the testimony of Jesus Christ and of all the things that he saw. I said something like "Look Lord, Jesus AND the Word". He replied saying "Look at yourself." "What do you mean Lord?" He said "You are Les Oxnam AND a tutor at the Learning Centre." My eyes were opened once more as I realised that Jesus Christ and the Word of God were one and the same in this Scripture also.

He further pointed out that if you call Scripture the W/word of God, you are giving to it the attributes that belong to Jesus, such as being eternal, infallible, living, etc etc, which makes it equal with God and in fact God. The Bible becomes your god, which means that God is no longer three, but four, which Scripture does not support.

Rather than rely on your wisdom in this matter, why don't you ask the Lord to show you? God bless.

I am actually against Bible college because I believe it trains a person to believe that they cannot read and believe their Bible plainly in the English. You have to be a scholar in order to know God's Word. But God does not call all of us to be laid upon with such a burden to understand God's Word. We learn God's Word not by going to a Bible college but by the anointing of the Holy Spirit (1 John 2:27).

We do not copy the ways of the world by man's wisdom (like by going to a college to know the Bible), but we compare Scripture with Scripture.

“Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” (1 Corinthians 2:13).

God's Word should correct us and we should never try to correct God's Word.

As I said before, God is three, not four. Ask Him if what I say is correct. What He revealed to me changed the way I read Scripture and dramatically changed my relationship with Him. To be honest, I didn't enjoy Bible College. Some of their teachings were contrary to what God had taught me.

Right, God is not four persons. The Lord our God is one God who exists in three persons (1 John 5:7 KJB). This does not mean we cannot abide in both Jesus and His words. Jesus said so.

“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” (John 15:7).

You have to distort this verse in the Bible in order to make your belief true.

For Jesus tells me that I can abide in Him, and I can abide in His words.
To say so otherwise is to teach falsely.

This should show you that the approach they taught you on how you can only know the Bible but through the original languages is false. While original language studies should not be our enemy, they should not conflict with what our Bible says in the English. God's Word is preserved today as it states in Psalms 12:6-7.

Yes in Him and in His words. I agree, but Bis words are not just the ones contained in Scripture, it includes the things He says to you.

That would be adding to God's Holy Word if you are receiving new words other than the Word He has given to us (i.e. the Bible). While God can nudge us and guide in life without words, He does not actually speak to us outside of the Bible. For if you believe Jesus speaks literal words to you, then you need to add another book to the back of your Bible. But this would be wrong because there are warnings not to add to God's Word in Revelation.
