That once was a powerful threat. But now Twitter IS the media, along with Facebook.
I could very well be wrong, but I assume their news is user-driven, correct? If so, revolts are still possible, or at least I hope. Other news media, such as Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, Reuters, and countless other online news websites still exist, many with professional journalists.
I must admit, I am not familiar with how these social media websites work with news. The point I am trying to make is that there are still competitors. All it will take to end a million dollar business is another person with a two million dollar idea. Abuse the customers enough, and they will seek out better options, like in the case of the privacy controversy involving Google. DuckDuckGo, a newer search engine providing a promise that many customers value, is now seen as competition by Google itself. DuckDuckGo is currently respecting its customer's privacy, Google is not.
Vote with your time and wallets. Any business losing enough money will have to make concessions or risk going under. For example, the Hudson's Bay Company was once a powerful corporation that greatly contributed to my country's very existence. Now, it is simply another retail store that got bought out by an American business.
Thinking long term is essential. Frequently risking long term damage for short term gain is never sustainable.
