Yes, McConnell committing political suicide when he was running for election would have been helpful.

Yes, McConnell could have stood up to Trump after December 12th and conceded the Georgia elections.

It was one thing for Romney to oppose Trump, it was quite another for McConnell.

McConnell eventually did indeed recognize that Biden had won the election.
==========
Let's be clear, even now, it isn't clear what McConnell would or should do. His primary goal is to be Majority Leader in 2023, a very tall order. It is quite possible that if he votes for conviction, he will be removed this year.
McConnell should have pushed for the swing states to produce the election computer records and for election workers to answer questions. It still needs to done. Those guilty of election wrongdoing need to be prosecuted.

Ballotpedia sez Kentucky doesn’t have a recall provision...or are you talking something else?

The Minority/Majority Leader in the Senate is an "elected" position. I'm guessing the thinking is that Republicans will replace McConnell as their leader in the Senate, when the next Congress convenes, if they disagree with his handling of impeachment. The gamble is, what will most Senators think of Trump in 2022, and will they hold it against McConnell for either voting for impeachment (and not allowing Trump to run again) or for preventing Trump from being impeached?

Trump was willing to take on the corruption in Washington,
He didn't take on corruption. He brought more in.
he didn't pay homage to the "rulers" of our nation who look down on hard working honest Americans.
He didn't care about hard working American. He cared about lining Trump , family and rich friends pockets with money.

Trump's an outsider to the establishment. Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi are afraid. Do you have any idea how much pork was put in the recent supposed COVID relief bill? Has the Biden administration denounced the Antifa attacks in Portland? President Trump travel-banned six of the fifty Muslim countries in the world because they did not do proper background checks on potential terrorists traveling to the U.S.
In order to follow through with the charge that Trump is a racist terrorists from those countries are now free to come here. How many times do these elite leftist leaders create rules and regulation for everyone and then break those regulations themselves before people wake up? How many attacks by Antifa and Black Lives Matter are sanctioned and encouraged by those on the left? Due to Joe tens of thousands of people have already lost their jobs because of his cancellation of the pipeline and a freeze on oil and gas leases. Joe and multiple related families didn't bother to follow the mask ban on federal property? Why? They were celebrating, of course. Nancy can go to any hair salon she wants. These are the elite rulers.
Did you know Nancy wanted crew manned machine guns at the inauguration as per the article below!!! And do you know that they made the National Guard sleep on concrete in open parking ramps with the temperature near freezing? Apparently not. Please provide details.

Has the Biden administration denounced the Antifa attacks in Portland?

The Biden Administration started just a little more than 48 hours ago, and most of it is still to be confirmed, so it hasn't been able to comment on much yet, but Biden himself has denounced rioting quite strongly all along.

President Trump travel-banned six of the fifty Muslim countries in the world because they did not do proper background checks on potential terrorists traveling to the U.S.

Details on that, please. Especially on which terrorists got through.

In order to follow through with the charge that Trump is a racist terrorists from those countries are now free to come here. How many times do these elite leftist leaders create rules and regulation for everyone and then break those regulations themselves before people wake up?

Perhaps a few specific examples of this would help.

How many attacks by Antifa and Black Lives Matter are sanctioned and encouraged by those on the left?

I know of no one whatsoever who has sanctioned or encouraged any riots, but feel free to give specific examples of those you know about.

Due to Joe tens of thousands of people have already lost their jobs because of his cancellation of the pipeline and a freeze on oil and gas leases.

Regarding the pipeline: first, that number of jobs is wildly inflated, and most of those jobs were temporary anyway. And second, since the TransCanada pipeline has already had over 20 leaks, resulting in several hundred thousand gallons of tarsands oil into American soil, I'd say there is definitely cause for concern about the project.

Joe and multiple related families didn't bother to follow the mask ban on federal property? Why? They were celebrating, of course.

I watched the entire inauguration, and never saw Biden or anyone take their masks off. I did hear about one time he took it off while at the Lincoln Memorial, but no one else was anywhere near him at the time. But that's the only example I've seen...what others have you seen, and can document?

Nancy can go to any hair salon she wants. These are the elite rulers.

Ah yes, that time she was set up by the owner, as confirmed by her stylist himself. Not sure exactly what point you think her being misled by this owner makes, especially since Speaker Pelosi doesn't determine restrictions in San Francisco, the local government there does, but it did happen, so....

Did you know Nancy wanted crew manned machine guns at the inauguration as per the article below!!!

That might be a tad much, I agree; but, to be fair, she and other congresspersons were attacked a couple of weeks ago, and some specifically threatened her, so I can't really blame her for being nervous.

And do you know that they made the National Guard sleep on concrete in open parking ramps with the temperature near freezing? Ken Cuccinelli: Pelosi Asked For ‘Crew-Manned Machine-Guns’ In Washington: AIR.TV

As regards the National Guard, from what I've heard, that was a miscommunication that has since been rectified, and President Biden has apologized for it. Regrettable, to be sure, but I see nothing to indicate malice here, just confusion and miscommunication. And, to be fair, it was apparently the National Guard's decision to camp in that garage, they were not specifically told to go there by someone else.

But, if you want to use this to criticize the Biden administration or Congress, that's your call; though it does not appear to be a decision made by either of them, so it seems a bit misplaced. I'd say it's more a case of Hanlon's Razor than anything else, and best remembered as a lesson going forward to plan these things better, and communicate those plans much more effectively.

-- A2SG, so far a lot of recriminations and very little facts or details to back them up...but I'm sure you'll correct that in a subsequent post......

Relax.
As soon as the spin becomes “Trump lost on purpose to see who ‘the loyal’ people were, he’s going to build a Big, Beautiful Political Party and make a comeback in ‘24”, they’ll drop this issue and marvel at the 12-D chess thing again.

I'm talking about the riots and attack against federal property on Inauguration Day in Portland. We don't need a President to denounce the riots months later, what has he done?

While 70,000 more people will be out of work because of Joe's Keystone order and freeze on gas and oil leases, millions will likely lose their jobs because of the Democrat minimum wage idea. Black teenagers will be hit the hardest. This is crazy during a pandemic, as is funneling American money into international organizations at this time. What about Americans? Kamala bailed out arsonists and looters, is she going to continue to do that as major cites are destroyed?

He could no longer be Minority Leader. He could be voted out. There are 50 Republicans. Let us say that 20 vote to convict, following McConnell's lead. The other 30 might very well not want McConnell as their leader. In their place, I wouldn't want that.

How many black teenagers do you think will be fired because federal contractors have to pay $30K a year to their employees?

Due to Joe tens of thousands of people have already lost their jobs because of his cancellation of the pipeline and a freeze on oil and gas leases.

The KXL pipeline is of dubious necessity. A functioning pipeline already exists from the Alberta oil sands to the refining and shipping centers on the Gulf of Mexico. While it's true that the KXL is shorter and more direct, there are other considerations. Most of the construction jobs are temporary. There are valid environmental concerns. The proposed route will pass through the Ogallala Aquifer. Which lies under 8 mid-western states and supplies water for nearly 1/3 of all agricultural irrigation in this country. A large spill could be disastrous. But more importantly, the economics are questionable. Canadian oil is bound up in a sludge-like sand matrix-- called oil, or tar sands. (The chemical name bitumen.) It's significantly more expensive to extract. As I recall, bitumen extraction requires an oil price of about $65/barrel to be profitable. In 2020, oil prices never got much above $60/barrel. And last spring dropped to below $17/bl.

And anyway, fossil fuels are old-school sources of energy that will become less and less important in the next 50-75 years. Renewable energy is the future.

This is the sound of the Republican Party fracturing.

The children of the night -- what sweet music they make!

Apologies, the spouse and I watched Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula last night.

JS: I hoping it the sound of the Republican party returning to their roots.

We should be reticent to spend anything to support the use of fossil fuel. It is really that simple. Wind and solar plants are already cheaper than fossil fuels. There should be no more oil or coal plants built, and care spent with regard to any money spent on maintenance/improvements). Gas is necessary for a couple of decades, but there should be ZERO fossil us after 2050, with the possible exception of some emergency get jet turbines.

One thing is absolutely going to have to happen is a massive education campaign about how the voting system works. How votes are counted and checked, how the processes is supervised and audited, what potential faults and weaknesses lie in the system and how election officials counter them, complete and detailed. One of the reasons the "stolen election" fantasy was able to gain such traction is the ignorance of the electorate about how it all works.
