The Inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris | Jan. 20th, 2021

I love his speech. I was pleased to see former Vice President Pence at Biden's Inauguration.

Interesting detail:
Instead of the traditional parade down Pennsylvania Avenue, there will be a virtual “Parade Across America” with performances from all 50 states and several territories. Jon Stewart is expected to make an appearance, and Earth Wind & Fire is among the musical acts.

I was fan of earth wind and fire as a teen (and certainly into 20s). That was a long time ago!

He's the only one there from the former administration as a kids table could not be arranged.

Congratulations to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris!

I second that, Isilwen. I can't express how deeply relieved and hopeful I feel right now. It feels like a heavy weight has been lifted off the shoulders of our country. I feel proud to be an American again.

It was a pleasant change to hear a Presidential speech with a varied vocabulary and sentences containing multiple clauses. (And encouraging to see a Republican presence.)

While I've often disagreed with Pence on a number of things, I felt a great deal of respect for him being at the Inauguration today. Perhaps a huge weight is lifted off of his shoulders now as well.

I am sure you are right about that burden. To be torn between loyalty and the right path is - as many of us must know - a torment. I feel Pence's loyalty stretched beyond the limit of credibility, so he has a lot of work to do to make up for this. He and McConnell need to wrest the Republican Party from the billionaire clique who believe they have bought it.

If there is a 'deep state' as thousands of Trumpers have believed, then they need look no further than the shadowy donors to far right organisations and funders of the most egregious Republican Representatives.

I don't always agree with Pence's stance on things, but I can say I definitely respect him as a man of much greater personal honor than Trump. Bekkilyn's probably right on the part about a weight now being taken off of his shoulders, too. And I am glad for his sake if he does feel that way. I imagine I would be breathing a sigh of relief right now, too, in his position.

Honestly, we joke about that - and let's be real, it's not very nice regardless of what kind of person Trump is - but I have to say, Trump's having the kind of seeming speech problems that he did were really no problem in my eyes at all in comparison to stuff like, well, invoking the name of the Lord after having an ultimately non-hostile crowd pepper-bombed by holding up a Bible for a photo op, and inciting a riot at the Capitol with clearly provocative and divisive speech, not the least of all his dubious claims of election fraud that were clearly far more about his personal ego than seeking true justice. The speech problems - Trump structuring his words like you'd expect a pre-teen child to in so many instances - just like Biden's own gaffes, at least aren't moral failings, even if they aren't ideal traits for the U.S. President to possess.

... The problems with Trump were his character, his boisterous claims and divisive speech, his bragging about everything like he was the greatest President who ever lived, and his constant lack of humility. To which, while far from perfect, Biden seems to fare way better in that department.

Agreed. Although I missed it I hear former president Bill Clinton went over and greeted him.

Great to see a new president of the USA who has the intelligence, courtesy, dignity and temperament that is befitting for the role. Well done Joe Biden!

Or maybe it was that only two term ex-presidents were allowed to celebrate with the incoming president?

No offense intended to Carter - he's, what, 96? He deserves to take a day off now and then.

I watched the first press briefing today of Biden's administration and it was a breath of fresh air not to have to listen to somebody attempt to dissemble and defend the indefensible.

However, Biden has his work cut out for him. America is not at all in a good place right now.
