No they do not. Christ has come.

Scripture says they do.

Do you reject that Yahshua will return?

You didn't answer my question about what day you keep Passover. If you don't want to answer; that's OK.

Actually no, scripture doesn't in the new covenant. I answered your question earlier in how we keep the Passover under the new covenant 1 Corinthians 5:7-8 [7], Purge out therefore the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:[8], Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. No one keeps the passover today of the Torah if they have no earthly Sanctuary, Levite Priest or animal sacrifices for sin and you have none. We are in the new covenant now that the old covenant shadows point to. Time to leave the shadows because Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.

I don't remember asking how. I was more interested in when.

See: who, what, when, where, how, and why.

There is a difference in the spelling of these words for a reason.

7. God’s true followers keep it Holy as God commanded (Rev 14:12; Rev 22:14; Eze 20:20)
8. Jesus is our example and he kept the Sabbath (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56; John 2:6; Matt 16:24; 1 Cor 11:1; Eph 5:1-21; Pet 2:20-22)

God’s Law in the NC is written on our hearts it is through love and it is love the fulfils God’s Law in us as we walk not after the flesh but after the spirit and is why Jesus says f you love me keep my commandments. (John 14:15; John 15:10). If we knowingly break one of God’s commandments we commit sin (1 John 3:4). This includes the 7th Day Sabbath which Jesus made for us and commands us to keep as a holy day.

In Christ Always!
Hi again, LoveGodsWord

Do you feel that it is just the Ten commandments that is God's law, or are there other commandments?

I'm asking because I'm coming to suspect that the reason why discussions about the law often become endless disputes, which are not edifying, is that people often talk about the general idea of law keeping instead of a particular list.

Do you have a list? It's an honest question, I'm hoping not to get involved in a lengthy dispute :)

Hello Leaf,

Nice to see you here. There is an interesting scripture in Titus 3:9 that says [9], But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

This scripture however is not talking about discussing the 10 commandments it is talking about foolish questions and arguments about genealogies in regard to the Mosaic ceremonial law. The Greek word being used for law here is νομικός, ή, όν G3544 nomikós and means legal aspects of the ceremonial law of Moses. So the context is to genealogies and arguments about aspects of the ceremonial laws not God's 10 commandments which is all through the bible that in both covenants having the role of giving us the knowledge of what sin is when broken and righteousness is when obeyed and is the standard for Christian living in the new covenant *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4 which according to James if we break anyone of God's 10 commandments we stand guilty before God of sin and need to seek God's forgiveness in James 2:10-11.

Benson Commentary
Titus 3:9. But avoid foolish questions — Questions of no consequence; and genealogies — See on 1 Timothy 1:4; 2 Timothy 2:23; and contentions, &c., about the law — About the observance of the ceremonial law, or some little things contained therein; for they are unprofitable, &c. — Not only consuming to no purpose that time which is capable of being much better improved, but also tending to discompose men’s minds, to alienate the affections of Christians from each other, and to render them indifferent to the proper duties of life.

...........

As to your other question. There is indeed other laws in the bible. Many of the old covenant in regards to remission of sins however have been fulfilled in the body of Christ (Colossians 2:17) and were "shadow laws" pointing to Jesus and are now fulfilled and now continued in Him based on better promises of the new covenant *Hebrews 8:1-6.

The books of Hebrews are interesting because they highlight the old covenant Mosaic "shadow laws" for remission of sins (Levitical Priesthood, earthly Sanctuary service, the laws for animal sacrifice and sin offering etc) as being now replaced by better promises and a better covenant (new covenant) and show that now Jesus is our great high Priest ministering on our behalf in the heavenly Sanctuary that the Lord pitched and not man (Hebrews 7:1-25; Hebrews 8:1-6) and that Jesus is God's sacrifice for the sins of the world once for all *Hebrews 10:10.

Today all we need to know is that when we sin (which is defined as breaking anyone of Gods' 10 commandments which also includes Gods' 4th commandment which is one of God's 10 commandments; Exodus 20:8-11) and stand guilty before God of sin instead of needing to offer up animal sacrifices and seek out a Levite Priest from an earthly Sanctuary we can go directly to Jesus in prayer seeking God's forgiveness for our sins knowing that he offered up His life to cleanse us with His own blood as Gods' sacrifice for our sins *John 1:29; 36; Hebrews 10:10. It is not God's will that we sin (break any one of God's 10 commandments) but if we do sin we have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ the righteous *1 John 2:1-4 and if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness *1 John 1:9.

The letter of the law (a list) is not the Spirit of the law and while we must first know the letter that leads us to the Spirit because Gods' Spirit is the Spirit of the letter *John 6:63; John 17:17 we must consider that Gods' new covenant promise is not that we should know the letter but that the letter should lead us to the Spirit (Galatians 3:22-25) of God's new covenant promise of having God's law written on the heart to love *Hebrews 8:10-12 from Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Ezekiel 26:24-27. This is why Jesus says truly truly I say unto you unless a man is born again he cannot see the kingdom of heaven *John 3:3-7. We need to be born again to walk in the Spirit *Galatians 5:16 because we sin. According to John those who are born in the Spirit to love do not practice sin (knowingly break God's commandments) *1 John 3:4-9; 1 John 5:2-4

May God bless you as you seek Him through His Word.

Moral Law of God defines what sin is (1 John 3:4) -- The TEN are there as Paul notes in Eph 6:1-2 because that unit of Law has "honor your father and mother" as the "first commandment with a promise" .

Matt 22 informs us that Deut 6:5 and Lev 19:18 are included as well in the moral law of God known to Jeremiah and his readers "Written on heart and mind" Jer 31:31-34 under the New Covenant.

As the Baptist Confession of Faith (sectn 19) points out --
1. Moral Laws remain - they define what sin is for mankind
2. Ceremonial laws with their animal sacrifices ended at the cross (see also Heb 10:4-12)
3. Civil laws ended with the nation of Israel ending as a Theocracy

Westminster Confession of Faith (Sectn 19) also makes that same point.

So a lot of this is accepted across denominational lines

And Adventists points out that "biology did not change at the cross" when it comes to plants and animals and even humans.

Thank you for the nice response.

Just so I can understand what you're saying, do you mean that

Yes, and the list is the Ten commandments.

Or

No, you don't have a list and you don't really want to talk about it because even asking about it shows that a person is not in touch with the spirit.

Hi again BobRyan, and thank you for the nice response.

I understand the idea of categories that people talk about in the law.

Is it just 12 laws that are in the moral law, the Ten commandments plus the greatest and second greatest commandments?

When you say
' "biology did not change at the cross" when it comes to plants and animals and even humans,' do you mean the laws that relate to biology are included also as moral laws?

Paul used a statement in 1 Tim 5:18 about not muzzling an ox in the field and applies it to paying pastors. I don't think NT writers were telling us to delete the Bible except for 12 commands - but certainly those 12 are included.

Jews paid attention to some of the hand washing texts as well as not eating rats and avoided some plagues even in NT times.

Okay, then I'm hearing 12 plus not muzzling in ox, bringing the count to 13.

And then are you including the hand-washing texts as moral laws?

Well I am including things that God declares to be "an abomination to God" as a moral law. Which includes the command not to eat rats.

As the Baptist Confession of Faith points out - we can exclude civil laws because we are no longer in that Theocracy, and ceremonial laws that deal with earthly priests animal sacrifices grain offerings etc.

Do you mean any passage that has the word abomination in it?

Why do you keep referring to the Baptist confession? Have they produced a list? Honest question. I understand they divide the law into categories. But which laws are in those categories? To me it's not clear.

Thank you for the nice response.

Just so I can understand what you're saying, do you mean that

Yes, and the list is the Ten commandments.

Or

No, you don't have a list and you don't really want to talk about it because even asking about it shows that a person is not in touch with the spirit.

The letter of the law leads to the Spirit of the law. You cannot have the one without the other as God's Spirit is the Spirit of the Word of God which changes the heart and lives of those who believe them (see John 6:63; John 17:17; John 8:31-36; John 3:3-7; 1 John 3:6-9; 1 John 5:2-4; Romans 3:31; Romans 8:4; Galatians 5:16).

Yes, the letter of the law is important.

But I do not understand your answer as to whether you have a list or not.

Out of all the laws given from the beginning of Genesis to the end of Deuteronomy, is it only the Ten commandments that are God's law? Is it only the Ten commandments that give us knowledge of sin when we break them, and knowledge of righteousness when we keep them?
Or do other laws do that as well?

If there are laws in addition to the Ten commandments that give us knowledge of sin when we break them, and knowledge of righteousness when we keep them, which laws are they? Do you have a list of them?

The list of God's laws are written in the bible which is the Word of God that we are to believe before we can walk in the Spirit *Galatians 5:16. Unless we are born again to walk in the Spirit we cannot enter into the Kingdom of heaven *John 3:3-7 because those who are born again do not practice sin (1 John 3:6-9). Sin is the transgression of God's law *1 John 3:4 which includes God's 4th commandment Sabbath *James 2:10-11 which is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken according to the scriptures *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4.

I have posted their confession of faith - section 19 here on the following thread

Baptist Confession of Faith -- as formatted by C.H.Spurgeon

The Law of God - Baptist Confession of Faith: Section 19

1. God gave to Adam a law of universal obedience which was written in his heart, and He gave him very specific instruction about not eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. By this Adam and all his descendants were bound to personal, total, exact, and perpetual obedience, being promised life upon the fulfilling of the law, and threatened with death upon the breach of it. At the same time Adam was endued with power and ability to keep it.

2. The same law that was first written in the heart of man continued to be a perfect rule of righteousness after the Fall, and was delivered by God upon Mount Sinai in the Ten Commandments, and written in two tables, the first four containing our duty towards God, and the other six, our duty to man.

3. Besides this law, commonly called the moral law, God was pleased do give the people of Israel ceremonial laws containing several typical ordinances. These ordinances were partly about their worship, and in them Christ was prefigured along with His attributes and qualities, His actions, His sufferings and His benefits. These ordinances also gave instructions about different moral duties. All of these ceremonial laws were appointed only until the time of reformation, when Jesus Christ the true Messiah and the only lawgiver, Who was furnished with power from the Father for this end, cancelled them and took them away.

4. To the people of Israel He also gave sundry judicial laws which expired when they ceased to be a nation. These are not binding on anyone now by virtue of their being part of the laws of that nation, but their general equity continue to be applicable in modern times.

5. The moral law ever binds to obedience everyone, justified people as well as others, and not only out of regard for the matter contained in it, but also out of respect for the authority of God the Creator, Who gave the law. Nor does Christ in the Gospel dissolve this law in any way, but He considerably strengthens our obligation to obey it.

6. Although true believers are not under the law as a covenant of works, to be justified or condemned by it, yet it is of great use to them as well as to others, because as a rule of life it informs them of the will of God and their duty and directs and binds them to walk accordingly. It also reveals and exposes the sinful pollutions of their natures, hearts and lives, and using it for self-examination they may come to greater conviction of sin, greater humility and greater hatred of their sin. They will also gain a clearer sight of their need of Christ and the perfection of His own obedience. It is of further use to regenerate people to restrain their corruptions, because of the way in which it forbids sin. The threatenings of the law serve to show what their sins actually deserve, and what troubles may be expected in this life because of these sins even by regenerate people who are freed from the curse and undiminished rigours of the law. The promises connected with the law also show believers God's approval of obedience, and what blessings they may expect when the law is kept and obeyed, though blessing will not come to them because they have satisfied the law as a covenant of works. If a man does good and refrains from evil simply because the law encourages to the good and deters him from the evil, that is no evidence that he is under the law rather than under grace.

7. The aforementioned uses of the law are not contrary to the grace of the Gospel, but they sweetly comply with it, as the Spirit of Christ subdues and enables the will of man to do freely and cheerfully those things which the will of God, which is revealed in the law, requires to be done.

they pretty much stick to the "Ten" Commandments - but I am sure they also include "Love God with all your heart" Deut 6:5 and "Love your neighbor as yourself" Lev 19:18

And I assume they also would include some Lev 18 rules about LGBT agenda issues...

Here is a thread on the 613 commands in OT vs the 1050 commands in the NT

1050 New Testament Commands vs 613 Old Testament Commands, which do we follow?.

No one keeps the passover today of the Torah if they have no earthly Sanctuary, Levite Priest or animal sacrifices for sin and you have none.

Are you asserting that the Pesach lamb/kid was a sin sacrifice?

I view it as the blood a threshold covenant.

Yes, I agree that "The list of God's laws are written in the bible...". However, the list of what I believe you referred to as Moses's laws are also written in the bible.

I believe that outside of the ten commandments, those two lists are mixed together. What I'm asking is, "Have you separated them?"

I'm getting the sense from your answers that you do not have such a separated list. I'm also getting the sense from your responses that you don't really want to talk about the subject in detail. If I have misjudged you on this, please correct me.

Thank you for your responses, and
Peace be with you!
