Ah tbat actually sounds useful. I only know what a vm is because other people I knew used them. I'm a nerd and I still only use one monitor as well. I usually buy one good monitor and just use that. But many enthusiasts insist on using multi monitors. I guess if I was still into programming I'd like a multi monitor setup. One monitor for source code and another for compiling. Sounds super useful. Any other use sounds like a waste of money to me though. I can see the point in buying a monitor with a high refresh rate, just not more than one.

Same here. I have one monitor. Exception being the laptop when it is connected to it, then 2 active displays. I have multiple virtual screens though :). I code, so I have one virtual screen for code, another for email, chat etc.

Sounds handy I have a pretty nice setup so I probably could handle that no problem. Would seem nice if they finally came out with a case these days with space for a bluray drive to watch a movie and be able to use your desktop at the same time time. I haven't coded since I was in my 20's, I gave it up when I flunked out of Computer Science like 4-5 times. Not because of coding but because of Algebra and Calculus, great at math horrible at Algebra. I've been in college way too many times for comfort in my life and the only thing I own is a certification in medical terminology lol.

Which is weird, Creating an integer and assigning it a value in programming is using Algebra but for some reason I never understood Algebra in College. I didn't take it in high school or middle school because I was a special needs potentially Autistic student (They never found out because they didn't really have testing back in the 80's like they have today.) so the highest math we probably got up to (I've been out of school so many years I don't remember) was probably dividing fractions. So I aced the math part of my GED test because they had pretty simple math for me on the test. Don't remember what kind of math was on there.

I'm curious what people here use. Personally, I use Artix (OpenRC) with i3 and Debian with LXQt, with FreeBSD running on bare tty and Void with KDE Plasma in VMs. What about you? No wrong answers!

Why does it not surprise me that most on this technology board use Linux?

Could be because Linux is legit and supports other hardware....not to mention no viruses and security programs needed to use it. Or it could be a whole other reason. I am just guessing.

JS: when I virus or worm strikes Linux a large self motivated tech community works together to solve it and within a short time we can download the fix. This doesn't mean we don't get hit. Someone poor folks have to start the ball rolling by being the victim, but Linux also has snap shot, a program that saves your data that you can access if you need to reinstall your destro.

So its a win win as far as I'm concerned, they I still create hard copies of my work.

I held out from upgrading to Windows 10 until Windows 7 went end-of-life. End-of-life operating systems don't get security patches anymore, which means they get more easily hacked over time. I strongly suggest upgrading to a currently maintained operating system, it doesn't have to be Windows 10 though it is an option.

That's true of all OS. I did the same with Win98 and I wish I could have sustained longer except drivers are to hard to find when your OS gets older. I don't like any of them since 98. I kinda think that is an empty threat as I am always on outdated OS, lol, so far so good although I might have just jinxed it.

Windows 10 Pro. I've been using Windows since version 3.1 and have no intention of switching. I do have several other Windows operating systems installed in VMware Workstation, but those are primarily for older games and nostalgic fiddling with ancient software. I also have various Linux titles installed...just for tinkering and such.

I wish I didn't have 64 because most of my good games like Monopoly for instance won't work on 64. Seems to me OS should get better not worse and most say they prefer prior versions. Too bad, sigh, Having all those different OS's sounds really neat! Your avatar is scary, lol.

WELCOME TO CH!
There is plenty to learn and enjoy here

You should try VMware Player. You can install Windows 98SE and then see if your copy of Monopoly will work.

Yeah, that was kind of freaking me out too...switched it.

Thank you, I did look it up and tried to download but my system is really messed up.
I think I was hacked early this morn by a game post.
If you see a thread asking if you want to win bitcoins by playing games, don't click on it. I can only think that is why my computer is a mess.

You can download the free version of VMware Player here:

Does that mean you have to load a whole different OS, complete? That's a lot of OS. Is it easy to go in and out of more than one?
They won't let me use my xp anymore. I have put is on more than a few systems and finally it wouldn't work. When you install another OS do you have to have the oem number, I think that the name of it? Whatever the name of the number you use to register your OS.

When you install an operating system into VMware it will be called a Virtual Machine. The operating system itself will be installed into what is called a sand box, which means the OS is only operating in that box and nowhere else on your system. When you install a Virtual Machine you will be asked several questions like: how much RAM do you want to use, how much hard drive space do you want to give the Virtual Machine and so on. For example my Windows 98SE Virtual Machine uses 512 MB of RAM and 1 GB of hard drive space. In order to go in and out of the Virtual Machine, you only need to move the mouse outside of the window. Microsoft does not support or sell older operating systems, but there are web sites that offer them for free for personal use. winworld .com is the most popular one.

Here is an example of how VMware will look when you have several operating systems installed. Also below is a screenshot of Windows 98SE on my Windows 10 PC.
