Interesting opinion piece by Keith Naughton on The Hill website.

"Donald Trump had a pretty good run in Washington — rampaging through the Republican Party, driving the media to distraction, enraging the Democrats and treating his own co-partisans in the Senate like a bunch of valets. But that’s all about to end. And I predict it will end with Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) — as the new Minority Leader — incinerating Trump’s political future for good."

I'm sure Mitch--along with quite a few other Republican Senators-- is sick to death of Donald Trump, and wants him to slink off, tail between his legs, and never show his ugly face again. But I'm not sure he'll have the ability, or the intestinal fortitude, to round up 17 or 18 votes for conviction. And then to disqualify Trump from ever holding a federal office again.

If it happens, I'll be most pleasantly surprised. And I'll gladly admit I was wrong.

Form what I have been reading McConnell is mad enough at Trump to go all in on this and if anyone has the ability to get the votes, its him. I am not optimistic but I am daring to hope a bit.

I don’t think Mitch cares what Trump does its just that Trump is tainted goods and is virtually unelectable. So ‘now’ Mitch wants to distance himself from Trump.

He's burning the RNC's very future..

Mitch is 78 and just got reelected. This is likely his last term and the 2022 election looks to favor the Dems a bit. 2024 is a bit more of a toss-up, but even so, it's likely that his time as majority leader is over. Trump has already burned the RNC's future and Mitch knows it. He's got virtually nothing to lose.

The threat would also work a lot better if Trump hadn’t just lost them Georgia.

Trump has done so much for the Republican party Mitch should be thanking him. In just two years Trump gave the US a Democrat majority in the House and after 4 years of Making America Great Again, he delivered a Democrat Senate and President. Mission Accomplished.

As Donald said, “we’re going to win so much, you’re going to be so sick and tired of winning.” Democrats agree.
