Hi all,

Some of you may know me but for those who do not, I am George, one of the Moderators on the CF Staff Team. :)

I wanted to take some time to start this thread to cover a few things around the Traditional Theology forum. First to start it off, I'm happy to announce that I'll be the Staff Member overseeing Traditional Theology, ensuring the forum stays true to its purpose by ensuring the discussions posted here are on topic. If you happen to have any questions regarding Traditional Theology, please feel free to send me a PM, my inbox is always open. :)

I also wanted to take the opportunity to use this thread as a means of discussing the Traditional Theology forum, as I know some may have some questions.

Please make sure to be respectful in this discussion, as I'm sure we all have the goal of healthy and Christ like discussion.

Thank you to everyone who originally started this forum, and a thank you to Mark who originally oversaw this section when he was on Staff. :)

In Him,

George95

We seem to have a lot of "drift" here as to what traditional means as applied to this forum. There are posters that view themselves as traditional, and in some aspects they may be, but not as defined by this forum. Can we expect some monitoring of that?

I’ve been away from CF a lot, but TT was near and dear to me as I was here when it was formed. We’ve always had to educate folks on what “Traditional” means - even when we came from different places. :)

I’m glad to check in and see TT standing. Will try to catch up with reading and posting a bit if I can.

And glad to have you at the helm!

My role is monitoring the forum, ensuring that discussion that is taking place is meant to be here in Traditional Theology. Anyone posting here in Traditional Theology should be posting according to the Statement of Purpose and if they're posting in here, their views should be in accordance with the Statement of Purpose. For example:

Definition of Traditional Christianity:

Traditional Christians hold to the traditional beliefs and customs of the early church that Jesus Christ established and believe they should be acknowledged and used in the development of the Church today. Traditional Christians believe that the Church and associated Tradition - especially from the Apostolic / early Church - guide us even today. These traditions include sources such as church councils and creeds, writings of the early Church Fathers, testimony of the Lives of the Saints, classic confessions of the faith, etc. Many traditional Christians believe that each Christian is involved in a movement toward God, commonly known as theosis or sanctification. Traditional Christians recognize a variety of sacraments and sacramental acts including, but not limited to; Baptism, Holy Communion (Eucharist), Confession and Absolution, Chrismation (confirmation) etc., and consider them to be additional means whereby God imparts His grace on those who have faith.

If someone is posting in here, and they disagree with anything of that part, then I would not consider them traditional. If you happen to see anything array, you can PM me or report it to Staff and I will take a look. :)

I'd like to bump this up to field any new questions or concerns that anyone may have. :)

A concern of mine is that we need to encourage our community, myself included, to post more threads that fit the theme of Traditional Theology.

The definition of Traditional Theology was difficult from the beginning. I was part of the group that created it, and I'm a liberal Protestant. I consider us traditional, but we're traditional more in having a comparatively traditional liturgy, and accepting mainstream critical scholarship. My sense of that what we were looking for was more what I might call historically-informed discussion, rather than, for example, requiring it to be conservative theology.

I know some people associate Traditional with Liturgical.

Bumping this up for any additional questions or thoughts. :)

I myself wish we could have a forum for liturgics, which would logically extend to specifically liturgical church music, iconography in those churches which have it, and church architecture, as well as accessories to liturgical worship, such as paraments, vestments, hymnals, service books, prayer books, floral arrangements, lighting (including architectural lighting, candles, lamps, etc.), altar furniture, lectionaries and so forth. Most denominational Christians worship in places where at least some of those things are important.
