• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. i find it very interesting. i've heard some vague rumours about his techniques before but didn't know his name or what he has done.

i can't do his breathing technique because i can't hold my breath for 90 seconds. 45 seconds just, but no longer than that and then i have to breathe a lot more than one big breath holding for 15 seconds when i'm done. i faint if i do that i reckon. My lungs are in a poor condition from years of smoking.

i have heard of the iceman but didn't think he had this scientifically worked out. Great work though. Cold has always been known to work on inflammation but Wim Hof brings that understanding to a new level.

How have you been doing lately otherwise?
I got asthma myself. his breathing technique gives you a rush of oxygen, it's why he can hold his breath for 5 to 7 minutes, so in theory you should be able to improve your ability to breathe.

no oxygen because of how poorly you breathe, it's no wonder you have so much problems. oxygen is immensely important. I think a lot of my problems are partially because I don't get enough oxygen. my body might very well be always Low-key thinking he's suffocating.

I'm doing okay feeling much freer than the human Glass Prison AKA my body and existence in the world. can you breathe through your nose? I've been trying to train myself to breathe through my nose more because it's better for you. you sound in a dire situation I hope it won't get worse for you. it's difficult for me to breathe as well but you sound even worse.

PS when I tried his breathing technique when I was listening to the podcast I didn't even notice that 90 seconds had passed. i had gotten a fuzzy feeling in my face and even in my chest when I first did the breathing technique. the fuzzy feeling in my face happens when I use my asthma breathing machine, because I'm getting more oxygen that I'm used to I guess. I think his technique makes you open up your lungs more.

It used to be much worse, i used to get bronchitis two or three times a year, but ever since i stopped smoking tobacco they have steadily improved. 11 years ago i rated about 74 percent lung capacity 3 years ago this had risen to 80 percent. i haven't had bronchitis in 3 years so things are better than it used to be.

i had voices and psychosis when i was a teenager already, so i don't think it is just lack of oxygen causing my troubles, though it might be worse because of that.

Been down again yesterday and today, no psychotic symptoms at all, so that is good. i think i might get psychotic symptoms when my mood is up, for they always happen when i feel fine depression wise. i'm not manic though, ever since i started taking anti-psychotics that stopped.

i just have to keep a close eye on myself. My wife Yvonne dreamt that i became psychotic again, i certainly hope not.

Feeling okay today. The last two days haven't been too bad. Flattish but surviving. No more psychotic symptoms up to now, so that is good. i'm waiting for a good day and then want to see how i respond as i'm still not certain that the increase in AD is safe psychosis wise.

i hate losing it suddenly again. It has been 2 1/2 years i had my last psychosis and i haven't had symptoms for ages, so i'm hoping that taking this AD will be okay.

Blessings to all

i'm feeling concerned. About two weeks ago i increased my AD from 7.5 mg to 15mg on advise of the doctor to try and see if it can lift me somewhat for my moods have been so low.

Any way my mood is beginning to improve but i also have had an increase in psychotic symptoms. Voices twice and a full on psychotic spell of about 30 seconds. Plus intrusive thoughts galore.

Now i'm scared that the increase in my AD is causing this to happen. It has happened many times before that is why i was on such a low dosage to minimise the risk of mania but help me sleep for that is an other affect this AD has.

If it is not the AD doing this then i'm getting sick again that much is certain. i haven't had these symptoms for near 20 months, that is why i'm worried it is the Ad doing this. Just when i was beginning to feel better.

i'm not sure what to do. Should i go back to half a tablet or persist and see if it goes away again? Now i still know what i'm doing, if i wait to long then i run the risk i'm going to be to far gone.

Might have to make another appointment with my doctor if these symptoms persist.
did you stay on 15 or did you go back to 7.5? before you mentioned that you were doing better today, I was going to suggest going back to 7.5 since it had been 2 weeks only, but maybe you're adjusting to 15 by now. adjusting to a new dose can be difficult of course.

when you go to bed at 10 in the morning on one day and get up at 5 in the evening, you can feel like a really sore loser. this is not what I do every day but today it happened. yeah my head is good today, nice and clear but it shouldn't have had to take this situation to do that.

that's weird cuz paranoia seems linked to schizophrenia. some people apparently have a low tolerance to CO2 which might trigger some neuroticism in them.

some 9/11 victims had a bunch of stuff in their lungs, they used a breathing technique - 6 seconds in 6 seconds out. it helped to clear a lot of that stuff out of their lungs. breathing through your nose has very many benefits. we get 20% more oxygen when we breathe through our nose. our breathing is linked to certain primitive systems in our body, so it makes sense that we might be able to change what our body and brain is doing, at least to some degree. there is a guy named James Nestor that wrote a book about breathing, he is a journalist. I didn't read his book but I watched the Joe Rogan podcast with him on it # 1506.

I have felt depressed all week. Which is interesting because I've been praying in the evenings like crazy, just depressed during the day. I don't usually struggle w/ depression, in the past it's purely anxiety, but I'm getting some bad thoughts. I feel horrible.

No i'm still on 15 mg i didn't want to loose the benefits for ever since i increased it i have been less down overall. i still get down moods but they are nowhere as difficult to survive as they have been.

i felt okay yesterday as well as today so it is still working. i have had no psychotic symptoms again, so maybe it was just adjusting. My mind has been steady along with my mood.

i wait and see what happens if i get more psychiatric symptoms i'm going to go back to 7.5 mg again but not otherwise.

Good to hear you are at least feeling better. You have had a rough ride. Are you sleeping better? i hope so.

Peace.

i used to be terribly paranoid at times. So bad that i would hide in the bushes because i was sure they would come and pick me up. i haven't been paranoid for ages. i think my anti-psychotic takes care of that. i know i did learn to walk with Jesus in my fearful self, and Jesus did cast out my fear, so maybe that has to do with it it as well. It has amazed me how scared Jesus has been without being overwhelmed by it. i have never sweated blood from fear, He has, and He still went on ahead with it. Jesus is unbelievably brave. One reason i love Him so much.

It could be true that breathing techniques help against a verity of illnesses. i do know that pain management, fear, and determination all take a deep breath before taking charge of the situation. i breathe through my mouth even when i try and breathe through my nose it feels uncomfortable and before i know i'm breathing through my mouth again.

How are you going depression wise? Do you still struggle with depressive moods or has life levelled out?

Blessings your way.

I relaxing and engaging with people here online after helping a neighbor move. They gave me far too much money for my work. I would have done it for free.

i'm sorry to hear that you are feeling depressed. It is usually the next thing after anxiety that is why ADs also work for anxiety.

Are you on medications? It can make a world of difference. i also found that 'sowing' good life in our hearts, having pleasant and good thoughts, for example or when we love, are kind or compassionate, then we build ourselves strong against depression.

i found that depressive thought always lie about the truth. Things are not like our depression says they are. To resist negative depressive thoughts with God's Word is really valuable overcoming depressive spells. Make all God's promises your own and let His loving truth rule your heart.

Honest He has helped me overcoming depression for years and it has been amazing what comfort He can bring. The living word i call Him. He always reminds us of Jesus and brings us in contact with God our Father in Heaven. i will always love Him for that.

I feel horrible.

Bring it to Jesus and let Him take care of it. Always bring yourself to Jesus when you feel bad. He is the best thing that could happen to us.

Peace.

Oh money is always handy there so many people who are in need of it i'm sure you can easily get rid of it. Unless you want to celebrate your good fortune and buy yourself something to relax with. A good book for example, or a video game.

Glad you are feeling well.

They gave me some money at first when I was almost done with the job. Then they came and knocked on my door and gave me some more money. I tried saying no, but they wouldn't have it. To be honest though, I have a list as long as my arm of things I could do with this money, but it's not about the money. God provides for me as it is. I try and be content with what I have. Thankfulness is immensely important to Christian joy. Everything is a gift, including getting money from your neighbors for helping them move. I would help her anytime just because it's the right thing to do.

Luke 3:10-11 "And the crowds asked him, 'What then shall we do?' And he answered them, 'Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.'"

This woman is older and could not do this herself. I felt obliged to help her.

that's good you're getting used to the dose. I think it's wise to stay at it if it's bearable. I heard that once you get to 22.5 mg of that med, you stop being as hungry and tired; that is you are more sedated/hungry at lower doses of it.

I'm sleeping better these days I guess. At times I can't quite make it to 5 hours but I at least get over 4. That doesn't sound like much sleep and I know I could use more, because I'm still quite tired, but I think it's a tad better than it used to be. I guess it took about 6 weeks on my dose to finally stop butchering my sleep. If the sleep disturbances get worse again, I'll know what the real reason is.

I did wrote a comment up above about how whacked my sleep schedule was today, I don't know if you missed it.

i didn't miss it that is why i asked how your sleep had been overall. One bad day can make our day more tiring but many missed hours can work havoc on our moods.

i haven't been more hungry this time around, i did get that when i started them that was terrible i wanted to eat 24/7 then but now i haven't really noticed any increase in my apatite. Sleep has improved. Not that i get more hours better better quality sleep while i'm sleeping. i used to wake up all the time after 12pm till i would get up, usually early because i'm sick of laying down awake.

i hope that you will be able to settle down enough to get more sleep. i have seen again how important sleep really is for a healthy mood and mind set.

How are you going depression wise? Do you still struggle with depressive moods or has life levelled out
depression and suicide is partially an evolutionary mechanism to save resources for the strong, it's a selfless sacrifice whose aim is to allow more resources to go to the stronger kin genetics who feel they have more of a chance of reproducing and surviving in the world. for me I don't see a point in existing in this world. I don't like slavery and I don't like being forced and I hate burdens. I have no desire to win at the games that people make up, no desire to try to succeed through the channels that everyone else is succeeding through, no desire to compete against others for things I don't care about. but I'm not completely negative. it's easy enough to cheer myself up, just like it's easy to start feeling bad when I know that I'm not doing the things I should be doing.

i could do the breathing technique and make me not negative, but there's no point in hacking myself just so I can continue to be here. I can't find real meaning or purpose in the world. it's mostly about doing things that you don't want to do so you can do things that you do want to do alongside them. I'm tired of this unwilling theme in reality. I couldn't even say how I feel completely cause don't even understand it anymore. I'm certainly concerned about my spiritual state of being.

sleep is one of the most important things for humans. the brain really needs it.

you could try this breathing technique to make it go away. don't try it when you're driving or in the water though.
