Rain, snow, then snow squalls in the coming days. Hazards: 5 to 15 cm of snow by Friday morning Locally 25+ cm of snow Friday in snow squalls Blowing snow Friday Potentially dangerous road conditions Timing: Rain will transition to snow west to east Thursday, from around noon near Lake Huron to around 4 p.m. for Kitchener-Waterloo. Widespread snow will transition to more localized/variable lake effect snow squalls Friday morning. Discussion: Rain will continue through Thursday morning before switching over to snow from west to east. Snow may be occasionally heavy at times overnight into Friday morning, before giving way to a lake effect snow squall event. Lake effect snow should last into Saturday, and will be accompanied by local whiteouts at times in heavy and blowing snow. A Snow Squall Watch will likely be needed for areas east of Lake Huron and southeast of Georgian Bay to address this concern for Friday and Saturday.

The high temperature on Christmas in the western Mohawk Valley in New York State was 55 F (13C) which occurred around 4AM after which temperatures began to fall. By nightfall on Christmas temperatures were in the low to middle 30's. There was substantial snow depth prior to Christmas eve day but warm temperatures and continuous moderate rain, almost 2 inches (5 cm), eliminated nearly all of the snow except for remnant snow banks. However with temperatures continuing to fall into the 20's Christmas evening there was a light snow cover by midnight. We generally receive Gidgx's weather a day or so later, although our temperatures are a little warmer and we also are impacted additionally by systems that form and run up the eastern Atlantic coast.

I was going to write "snow", but after reading the posts above I think "a smattering of snow" would be more accurate! :D I like it, but then it's not too deep. Frozen tonight though, temps -2C.

I live in Australia and forgot you use Fahrenheit not Celsius as we do so I gasped a bit at "40's and 50's" ... today we are expecting 40C (104F) with Christmas day forecast to be in the high 30's C. It's funny but our radio stations still play play "White Christmas" and that one with "dashing through the snow". Have a blessed Christmas.
I use Celsius, it has been 1c and -1c overnight. very misty and cold, we live in the foothills of the Pennine chain. The snow that fell yesterday is still hanging on.
God bless

4:32PM due to the weather of rain to ice that formed on the tree branches caused a power outage of the transformer.. 4 times the signal was sent to reinitialize it but only resulted in 4 loud low tone buzzing.

Several vehicles drove by and found nothing amiss when they looked at the transformer and the branches directly around it.

It was roughly an hour later when the maintenance truck arrived, the neighbor showed his tree branch as the culprit, the branch was removed, the connection fixed and everyone got their electricity back.

So pleased to hear that you got the problem sorted.

Glad you got your power back so quickly; I know what it's like to set in the dark; with the power out.:(

Yesterday we had a hard short Pacific ocean squall hit the PNW; it only lasted for a couple of hours; but it was enough to knock out our power; here in the country.
The power company managed to fix it before dark; some tree branches had hit a power line.

But...now today the NWS is calling for a much bigger storm to come in this afternoon at 4PM till midnight; with winds of 75-89 MPH at the beaches of Oregon & Washington and winds here in the Willamette valley of South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.

So I'm praying that our power stays on.:)

we have freezing weather and it seems to be here to stay for a while. Very cold.
I agree - it's cold in NW England!

I had a socially-distanced New Year's drink with a neighbour outside at midnight on 31st. (We're allowed to meet one other person under our COVID restrictions where I live.) After 20 minutes it was too cold, and I cancelled a similar New Year's Day one with another neighbour for the same reason. Today I was going for a walk when we had the most beautiful snow - really large flakes. I love snow! However it must be a bit milder now because the thaw has started, but it is still cold.

I feel for those of you with power outages. I hate that, and hope you have your power back now.

Summer here and we have had a few really good days of warm sunshine and a wee breeze to prevent the heat from becoming too much. 23C or so is just right for us. :D

First day in our area with really snow! Wind NE about 3-4 knots, -8,5 C/+17F and a nice day for the season's first ski hike with our twins (O-graduation summer 2021.) 27 kms/close to 17 miles in easy terrain, about 3 hours 20 mins (incl an "orange and hot chocolate from the termos flask"- stop of course, about 15 mins)

Tea (Formosa O-olong) and https://res.cloudinary.com/norgesgr...o,h_450,q_auto,w_800/cm97zpwqhbmp28lqmcyh.jpg at home tasted delicius.
