You must not have union employees.

You are correct. Also, my state is an "at-will" employment state. You affect my business adversely, I no longer have the "will." Or as the adage says (paraphrased for acceptability), there are certain things you don't do where you eat.

That wasn't a "Twitter mob" that invaded the Capitol building. We're talking about a company taking umbrage at an employee's specific action in public.

Let me show you the difference: Actress Gina Cararo has been coming under fire on Twitter for several months because she refuses to kneel to the LGBT community and identify her "preferred pronouns" in her posts. They have been demanding Disney (which generally champions the LGBT community) fire her from her current role on Disney's The Mandelorian.

Now, Cararo has not actually done anything in particular against the LGBT community, and she certainly hasn't broken any laws (and, yes, being beyond the barricade line at the Capitol, being in a location where the police have told you to vacate is breaking the law).

Firing her for essentially doing nothing is far different from firing a lawyer for being unlawfully on Capitol grounds.
Innocent until proven guilty used to matter. Now we have Twitter mobs demanding the firing of people who haven't even been arrested and charged with anything.

They didn't like what they absolutely saw their employee doing in public. That has never required a hearing in court to fire anyone.

I'm hoping this is an example Poe's Law.

First, Texas is not a "right to work" state. In Texas, an employee can be fired immediately for anything at the employer's whim of the moment except the specific classifications identified in the Civil Rights Act...which does not protect political activities, btw.

AFAIK, that is what a "right to work" state is. That's why it's jokingly referred to as "right to fire."

If your business profitability is affected by someone acting a fool whether on Twitter, Facebook, in the Rotunda, or on the Capitol Terrace, you have a choice. You can say it shouldn't matter because they are on their own time or you can try to save your business. Easy choice.

A Christian should run their business firstly to glorify God, and secondly to provide for their family and the families of their employees. The maxim that a business should be run only for profit is not compatible with Christian capitalism, because a Christian entrepreneur must focus on treasures in heaven more than earthly riches. Therefore it behooves Christian employers to stand by their employees through thick and thin and to respect their first amendment rights.

I disagree. I should risk my business and the livelihood of 114 other employees and their families in order to stand by one employee breeching the Capitol involved in sedition? That's just absolutely absurd.

Nothing about the freedom of speech or the right to protest government is relevant to Christianity.

This is nothing short of outrageous. The guy hasn't been charged with any crime, was at an event on his own time. This is the Twitterization of every single event in our lives, where if someone decides they don't like something they publicize it and get them fired because the employer fears the twitter mob.

For those who will scream about the seditious riot on Wednesday I encourage you to think deeper and more broadly about this issue. It's not about this particular situation, it's about the broad application of cancel culture.
I know of no company that would continue to employ someone who was videotaped committing very recent Federal crimes.

...two things:
A) I'd be interested in seeing any scripture that supports the "first Amendment as a Christian principle"
and
B) the first amendment doesn't apply to companies, churches or individuals, it applies to the what the government can't do.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Nothing about the freedom of speech or the right to protest government is relevant to Christianity.

Tell that to St. Ignatius the Martyr, who was fed to lions for preaching the Holy Gospel in Antioch. Virtually every Christian persecuted, imprisoned, tortured, or martyred over the centuries was killed for reasons that are precluded by the First Amendment (for preaching the Gospel and Christian doctrines, or for believing in the Christian religion). Fortunately, in the US, the overwhelming majority of police support the First Amendment, and a majority of police are Christians.

In response to A, see above. See also the Golden Rule. While martyrdom ensures the salvation of the martyr (Matthew 10:32), Christians would prefer not to be persecuted, and the Golden Rule given to us by our Lord therefore requires we restrain ourselves from persecuting others based on their religious beliefs. This was briefly the case in the ancient Roman Empire, which had religious freedom from the Edict of Milan after St. Constantine’s conversion experience, until the Arians took over owing to the machinations of Eusebius of Nicomedia (Emperor Theodosius ended the persecution of Christians by Arians around 390, but decided it would be a crackerjack idea to instead brutally suppress the Jews, Samaritans, Neo-Platonists, Manichees, and the struggling remnants of the old Polytheist religions).

In response to B, there have been cases where it has been ruled that private companies have infringed upon the free speech of their employees, and there is also the federal ban on discrimination in the workplace and in the housing market.

So if they had decided to protest at the Pentagon instead and stormed that building, what would have happened?

The people in the Pentagon aren't the ones causing problems for the country. The people in the Capitol Building are.

Why would I tell that to a guy who lived in a different country, 1600+ years before the law in question was even written?

Virtually every Christian persecuted, imprisoned, tortured, or martyred over the centuries was killed for reasons that are precluded by the First Amendment (for preaching the Gospel and Christian doctrines, or for believing in the Christian religion).

That's why I made sure my post said "freedom of speech" and not "first amendment". (I even edited it to make that change)

You argued that a business ought to glorify God by being loyal to their employees who exercise their first amendment rights. There are loads of ways that a person can exercise those rights that are directly at odds with Christian virtues - what you're doing is essentially elevating American political values to the level of Christian doctrine. That's heretical, but not terribly uncommon in this country, unfortunately.

Fortunately, in the US, the overwhelming majority of police support the First Amendment

Yeah, except for the ones who arrest and/or assault you for filming them and/or being a journalist and/or marching down the street.

I don't know what percentage of the force those individuals make up, but they don't seem to be too hard to find when anybody left of center and/or darker-than-beige wants to protest.

Just because "they" work for us doesnt mean you get to break in. If a liberal protest did this at the WH, because "Trump works for us", that doesnt change anything. They were breaking the law the instant they trespassed.

If one of my employees was protesting on the streets, no problem! That's the first amendment. You are identified inside, I wouldnt even let you back in the doors.
