Free money and free rent, sounds like communism to me.

I mean, no, that's not communism.

And if it were, that would make God a communist, and ancient Israel the world's first communist nation.

God explicitly gave commandments in His Torah to Israel on social welfare and wealth redistribution for the poor and needy.

"At the end of every three years you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in the same year and lay it up within your towns. And the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do." - Deuteronomy 14:28-29

The tithe was brought into the towns, and then was redistributed to Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows. That's literally the government redistributing wealth, giving it to the needy. That was what God commanded Israel to do.

So, I think it bears repeating: if giving people money and helping out with rent during a pandemic is "communist", then God is a communist.

Now, of course, this isn't communism. Communism is a pretty specific thing. The people who have been telling you that social welfare is "communist" or "marxist" are lying to you.

I don’t understand why you think this detained under quarantine is a big deal . The government has ALWAYS done this. And not only the USA government. The word quarantine comes from an Italian word meaning 40. The 40 days they would hold you to make sure you didn’t have plague or smallpox back in 14th century Venice.

This isn’t tyranny. It’s a practical idea used by various governments for centuries, to protect citizens from communicable diseases

New York has a bill on the floor to detain any deemed a health risk.
Up to sixty days and longer without due process.
Read it for yourself.
NY State Assembly Bill A416
This would be its third attempt since its introduction in 2015. No tyranny.

This proposed legislation scares the living daylights out of me.

It should.

If we were living in days of old, when public leaders had the interests of the country and the People at heart, that would be one thing. But today? Today, we live in a different environment....today, we have corrupt power-mongers in office who are obsessed with controlling every last aspect of the lives of every person in the country---and all "for their own good", of course; they need to force you to take half-proven vaccines, to shut your business down indefinitely, to gift you as much money as they think you deserve to have, to restrict your ability to communicate freely, to restrict you from travelling wherever you want to go, to restrict what kinds of items you can buy, what kind of food and drink you may consume and in what quantities, what kinds of self-defense measures you may legally have, and right on down to whom you can vote for even if they have to change that vote to insure the proper outcome.

All of it "for your own good", of course. They have our best interests at heart, don't you see? They are benevolent and generous---they just want to take care of us. :smilingimp:

There are always going to be idiots, who when told that they have to take extra steps to protect themselves and others, will refuse to do that. The government claims the right to protect others from the idiot’s stupid behavior. I don’t have a problem with not catching a pandemic disease from an idiot!

They should of been giving citations and gotten tougher on this long ago.
I've known quite a few people who would still be alive if they didn't catch the Rona.
Bunch of selfish clowns in this country that want so badly to feel and say they are oppressed when they don't know the meaning .

I live in NYC, and not far from a hospital where they had bodies stacked up outside in tractor trailers like cordwood, nuff said . You won’t be worried about your “right” to infect others if you are dead!

It shouldn't.

Don’t you see how this could be used to persecute Christians? By the way, I strongly support the US recognizing the Armenian genocide and the related genocides of the Syriac and Pontic Greek Christians, the brutal massacre in 1915 of Christians in general by the Ottoman Empire, in which most Armenians then alive sadly perished. It is my fervent hope that no such thing occurs again, and as a result, I have extreme concerns about any legislation that has the potential to be abused for purposes of religious suppression.

Consider that just with executive orders, Mayor Bill de Blasio has waged a savage war of persecution against the Chassidic Jews of Brooklyn, even going so far as to break up a funeral. Christians have already found themselves in the crosshairs in some parts of the country, and the fact that the mayor of New York has no compunction against waging an openly anti-Semitic campaign of religious oppression in the name of controlling Covid, something no other major city in the US has seen fit to do, sends a chill down my spine, because if he is willing to do that to the Jews, who themselves have been victims of a genocide, and considering other mayors have made a show of going after evangelicals, what is to stop them from going after Orthodox Christians, or Roman Catholics?

No, I don't.

Great! And you should support that, right? All Christians and even non-Christians should support that. I'm curious as to how that is pertinent to this thread, however.

It is my fervent hope that no such thing occurs again, and as a result, I have extreme concerns about any legislation that has the potential to be abused for purposes of religious suppression.
That is also my fervent hope, but, alas, it is in vain, as genocide was repeated just recently. Again, I don't see how this health law in NY pertains to genocide against the Armenians, Greeks, etc.

Consider that just with executive orders, Mayor Bill de Blasio has waged a savage war of persecution against the Chassidic Jews of Brooklyn, even going so far as to break up a funeral.
I don't understand how that is persecution against the hasidics. I do understand how the hasidics eschew any laws that they feel they are above and did so with health laws that were created to combat the spread of Covid, and thereby they spread Covid like wildfire and endangered all others. But how were they persecuted?

Christians have already found themselves in the crosshairs in some parts of the country,
Where? And how?

and the fact that the mayor of New York has no compunction against waging an openly anti-Semitic campaign of religious oppression in the name of controlling Covid, something no other major city in the US has seen fit to do, sends a chill down my spine, because if he is willing to do that to the Jews, who themselves have been victims of a genocide, and considering other mayors have made a show of going after evangelicals, what is to stop them from going after Orthodox Christians, or Roman Catholics?
I don't see him waging a campaign of persecution against any religion - where do you get that notion? I don't see it, and I live here.

. Savage war against Hassid Jews ?!?!?! I live here . They make them stop spreading measles! Which despite laymen’s misconceptions is a nasty disease. One of my cousins was crippled by it as a child and I always mistakenly thought that she had had polio but it was measles . Frankly I would have been cheering DiBlasio ( I seem to remember doing that too) . , that’s just idiotic to equate vaccination with religious oppression especially since measles can cripple or kill .

while we’re on the subject , we humans have never developed natural herd immunity to measles ( or smallpox or polio or TB, ) and remember that when some scientifically illiterate moron starts spouting off about herd immunity in relation to Covid 19

Hope if you have an android and wanted to download Parler you already did as the alternative social media app has been banned by the Google store.

I love when governments and big corporations decide what is best for me...... it gives me the warm fuzzies... to know they love me and are concerned about my welfare.

Where's this money coming from? Its a big problem Australia is finding it can't afford but governments are pushed to it to get the votes.

Today I'm afraid of losing my house when I retire because I won't have enough superannuation [a bill was put to parliament suggesting the govt "buy my house" and I can live off of the proceeds.

Don't forget, its your taxes coming back to you. The govt has no other money.
