I know that people who insist upon writing something like that are doing it to 'hear' themselves being outrageous. But the "over-the-top" rhetoric doesn't make this nonsense any more saleable, if you were thinking it might.

Just stating a fact, that's all.

i must have missed when portland was made our capitol and BLM attacked congress there whiel trying to usurp our democracy for someone who lost the election.
To be fair, there really aren't that many better excuses to try and minimize the attempted coup that Donald instigated, so expect to see some pretty bad ones.

The obvious question is why anyone would feel obligated to minimize what happened in the first place.

Did you want to include all the other BLM "protests" such as Portland Ore, and Seattle Wa. where people were killed and several more, how about some photos of businesses burning down, or looting or assaults day after day on innocent citizens and on police. There is nothing correct about talking about reuniting this nation and then going right out and accelerating the fire of racial tensions. I watched this exact type of race division for 8 years of the Obama administration, Biden is not even in office yet and here we go again.
Any photo from Portland would show cops in riot gear unleashing tear gas and rubber billets on crowds. And a much, much higher ratio of cop to protester.

Show me the proof of how you know the election was stolen. Otherwise it's unreasonable to definitively claim the election was stolen. It's a lie because it comes from dishonesty.

One group has a history of violence (arson/looting/rioting), the other doesn't. Is it possible that is why the Capitol police were so understaffed?
One thing I consider > Donald Trump had that meeting away from the White House; so possibly that tied up a lot of security people away from the White House . . . where they did know they would have tens of thousands of people near the President; so maybe the crowd got to the White House before all those security people had adjusted from the speech location to the White House.

And so the protestors would not have the full possible arrangement of security to deal with them.

Possibly . . . I don't know . . . but I consider > if they were shorthanded because of personnel deployed to the speech area, where they would need to secure President Trump . . . the ones at the House did not have enough people to do a hard stand, plus if they started arresting people that could tie up a number of officers just to handle one bad actor, so other officers would be even more shorthanded for protecting. So, they needed to use a soft resistance strategy of even giving in, to some extent, doing a soft retreat strategy while officers needed to stay attentive to the legislators, and not only fighting and arresting rioters. They didn't have enough; so they could not be too tough.

Black Panthers conducted an armed protest at the Capitol in 1967. Not a shot fired. This is pandering.

Granted, after the recent events...maybe they're finally both now equal.

And that's the issue with why the capital found themselves understaffed. Trump supporters have never been reckless, never been anything but peaceful in all their rallys... the only time anyone got hurt was when Antifa and BLM did counter protests against Trump supporters...

However, the way it's been going something like this was only a matter of time ..

What I really didn't like, nor did I understand is why didn't some of those representatives try and go out and talk to these guys?

Mob mentality or not I believe they would have listened to their representatives...

I would have gone out and at least tried talking to them..

They seem a bit triggered given that Trump has (eventually) been more strongly condemning their violence. Telling them to cut it out and go away doesn't get listened to.

But really, the GOP has screwed up telling the crazies where to get off since long before even the Tea Party.

Your opinion on the right duly noted, I do want to say, people want to be heard. Not pandered to or lied to. They want to know they are being heard - not swept under the rug like dirt you wish would disappear.

That's right and left.

People only deserve to be heard so far as what they are saying makes sense.

But not all opinions are created equal - and it's well overdue that we stop pandering to people who want a participation prize for politics but whose opinions do not line up with reality.

Plausible, but Secret Service would be protecting Trump, whereas Capitol Police are assigned specifically to Capitol Grounds.

I've seen some arguing Pence might have been nearby, but nothing definite.

Yes it is very bad when people tell stupid lies

Out of interest how would you feel if someone replied to your thread by saying

"You are just parroting right wing talking points. Biden Derangement syndrome. "

By law, command of the D.C National Guard is assigned to the Secretary of Defense, in this case Chris Miller.

The (Democratic) Mayor of Washington wrote an official letter to the Acting Attorney General, the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of the Army, telling them that she did not want any help.

Even Pelosi, who normally will blame President Trump for anything, directed her criticism at the Acting Secretary of Defense for not responding properly to the problem.
These will make FINE points during the “should the District of Columbia become a State unto itself?” debates in, say, the summer.

None of that really matters to the statehood issue, you know.

All that the Democratic leadership cares about is whether or not there are the votes in Congress to create two more Democratic Senators. The "debates" might as well be some appointee reading the Washington phone book for awhile...and then the vote.

The State of the District of Columbia would have its own contingent of National Guard, not beholden to the whims of the sitting President or Secretary of Defense...so, yeah, it does matter.

It’s not about the balance of senators. It’s about getting the citizens of the District of Columbia appropriate representation when it comes to voting in the House, even being in the Senate, and having a national guard and laws not controlled by the whims of the President and Congress respectively. Explain to me why the people of the District of Columbia don’t deserve the same rights you and I enjoy.

President-elect Joe Biden and future VP Kamala Harris are being accused of “gaslighting” for claiming a double standard by cops in how they handled the US Capitol protest.

Biden and Harris said Thursday that police would have been more aggressive in quelling Wednesday’s unrest had it been a Black Lives Matter protest instead of supporters of President Trump.

Biden went so far as to call it “totally unacceptable” that DC cops used kid gloves, allowing the rioters to breach the Capitol.

“This is complete nonsense,” conservative writer AG Hamilton said of the claim on Twitter.

“It’s gaslighting that requires ignoring what we actually witnessed on a nightly basis last summer.,” Hamilton said, referring to widespread anti-police protests last year.

Podcast host Allie Beth Stuckey tweeted that the comments by the incoming president and vice president only further inflame racial tensions in the country.

Hey Clint, here is a video of 6 capitol police officers opening the door and saying "I respect you" to protestors as they walk in.

So.... uh, take it back
