One who claimed to have broken into the halls of the Capitol bragged to a fellow demonstrator about how scared the employees must have been.
“There was coffee still sitting there and everything,” he said. “They must have just ran.”The man, who would not give his name, said he fled the building after a woman was shot.
On the west side of the Capitol, facing the Washington Monument, protesters mounted Confederate flags and Trump 2020 flags to waves of applause from the crowd.
“We weren’t violent before but we are now,” a White man said, talking into his cellphone. “There’s no going back.”
