Revelation 2:9. I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich);
and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are
a synagogue of Satan.
Revelation 3:9 Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they
are Jews and are not, but lie—indeed I will make them come and worship before
your feet, and to know that I have loved you.
Both of these verses speak of the synagogue of Satan being those who
“Say they are Jews and are not”. Two possibilities to consider would be a
non Jew claiming to be a Jew, or a Jew whom the Lord does not recognize
as such as they have not been born again in accordance with His Word.
Romans 2:
28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is
outward in the flesh;
29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart,
in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.
In Revelation 2:9, the Lord states that their words are blasphemy. Can someone claim
to speak in the Name of The Lord, and not be born from above by the Holy Spirit?
In Revelation 3:9, He is more direct in simply stating “they lie”. Yeshua
speaks of the Holy Spirit as “The Spirit of Truth” in John 14, 15, and 16.
1 John 4:
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you
is greater than he who is in the world.
5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them.
6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us.
By this we know the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of error.
Such a bold claim that John is making here! The synagogue of Satan speaks
lies in blasphemy. They speak in a worldly way that the worldly give heed.
Does this simply speak of popularity? Doctrines of men whose followers become
rigidly dogmatic in adherence to their word?
