Good morning Mayflower. I told another friend about our RPGs, she is an RPGer too and a Christian. Not sure if she will join us though as she is busy with her own set of RPG games.

I wanted to check in, I know you are extremely busy. Just wanted to know if you'd like to do any further RPGs.

I sort of got an itching for something, but we don't have to go with it at all and again - I know you are very busy. Last night saw a Hallmark movie called Out of the Woods. Its basic premise was that a big shot lawyer [grandson] went into the woods to his grandfather's house to get him to sign over property because the grandson and family thought he was going crazy. He was giving land away to the Native Americans and other things to make the family inheritance "dry up".

While there, the grandson got a big lesson in being outdoors, nature, grandfather's way (grandfather was very rough at first). By the end of the movie, the grandson has what he came for and decides to burn it and do everything the way Grandpa would have wanted it. There was also a side romance story which can be completely skipped.

I thought we could Christianize this if you're interested? Could be any characters or any gender. I can play the hotshot who loves all the modern conveniences of life, cell phone, lap top, internet, etc. Maybe in a very modest way even hint that he has Internet Addiction or something. And he goes out for whoever's house for whatever reason.

Please let me know if this is not pleasing to you and you'd like to do something else? I like the idea of starting with a general roadmap; Campfire Christmas already had the Charles Dickens outline. Having the outline helped us to complete it, at least I think it did. :)

I wanted to do another, just no good ideas came to mind except for "A Wonderful Life." It may be good for next Christmas." ^_^

And yes, the more the merrier! I think some get the wrong idea about rpging like this, so it is hard to find people interested.

I like the idea of a 20 page limit rpg per 2 writers, with 10 pages more per rpg'r .Makes it challenging, while focusing on the objective. What is the point/purpose of the story. What is unnecessary?

Hi Mayflower, no I've never seen the Shack. Should it be one I put on my radar? I've never seen A Wonderful Life, but my wife says its depressing. So I've avoided it all my life; maybe I shouldn't! :)

Maybe RPG is the wrong term to use? Maybe it's story telling or shared story telling? In straightforward RPG, you don't usually control another person's character. But in the type we've shared in, we had 'primary' control over characters I think that we had closer affinity to; but we also shared in the process and occasionally took control of each other's characters when needed if you remember. And I was happy with it.

What do you mean 20 pages? You mean written in a word processor, not 20 pages on the forum right?

So, I think it is a form of RPG - but maybe people don't like that terminology because it reminds them too much of Dungeons and Dragons (which I'm not necessarily against, but I'm sure there are tons of creatives who want to steer clear of that?)

What do you think of this basic outline/steps of development below? Remember we can edit whichever way we like to.

INTRO: A. Character with a house in the woods is maybe led by God that a member of the family is coming and God wants to show that person their spiritual gift. [this character could have a caretaker character close to age with my character if that works better or not]

INTRO 2: B. My character comes to the house and at first can't appreciate the whole concept of being in the woods. Comical stuff can happen (in the movie, the guy slept on the porch the first night and found out later his grandpa was just being stubborn, but he never locked the door! The grandson just assumed the door was locked!) :)

C. Tragedy - Something tragic happens either to my character or yours, like learning they have cancer and that is why they are living out in the woods, or whatever it might be. The tragedy seeks to bring the two characters closer to one another.

D. Bonding - The two or three characters (or whoever) start to bond and have a godly friendship and my character begins to learn more and more about being in the woods and the real reason their relative lives out in the woods, whatever those reasons might be.

E. Return of the old family - The old family that wants to do harm to the person living in the woods returns and tries to pull my character back with them and maintain the original goal: get the the character to sign paperwork releasing the property to the family instead of the grandpa/grandma/whoever's wishes.

F. ARC OF CONFLICT: Something happens that conflicts everyone with the ending result being the family leaves and shows the true colors that the family didn't really care. At this juncture, my character must decide: is he going back with them, is he staying with the person in the woods.

G. Resolution: The story resolves with happiness for both characters, whether one dies to go be with the Lord or is miraculously healed. My character ultimately decides to stay in the area of the relative, take over their house after they die, or just live nearby. Whatever we decide.

Just looking over since I go to work in an hour. Sounds a lot like the Shack. Definitely a good movie you would like. It is about this man with a loving family and he takes the kids on a camping trip. He saves one of his daughters who was drowning, but while he was doing that, this serial murderer came and kidnapped his youngest and murdered her in a old/falling apart cabin in the woods, which him and the police found in ivestigating.

So years later, it has really effected the family, and the oldest daughter didn't talk since the accident/incident. The man gets a mysterious letter in the mail that God was waiting for him in the cabin in the woods.

When he gets there it is beautiful, not the same shack.and there are three people who represent the Fathee, Son, and Holy Spirit, helping bv him heal from the situation. One of the best movies I have ever seen.

Ill look over this and can create!!! And I like that term storytelling. It sounds more like what this is. :) has elements of rpg in it. No dice :)
