The book of Hebrews ~ modified~ and why I believe it to be written by Priscilla, besides … (edit: an unanswerable question that is not open to debate, but just as a sidenote)

The contrast with Paul is in the equalitarian terms in an almost floral pictorial relating to Christ and the church. Chapter 4 offers equality for all before God. The foundation of the city they were looking forward to was built on a promise, an analogy in Paul’s writings but never exemplified. The readers were Essenes that would have understood angel’s significance in opposition to the temple ways, which don’t seem to have been an eyewitness testimony to the content. They expected 2 lines of Messiah, one a king, the other a priest, but the book joins them together in melchezedec. No child-parent content that Paul displays. Priscilla has many active parts in the forming of the church and a careful examination of the text would have her at the right place at the right time. Of course without a signature who knows, but she would also be most likely to have left her named off because of gaining acceptability, as the customs were then.

Among the Hebrew Christians many still clung to the temple and its ritual. And there were among them teachers who inculcated obedience to the laws in regard to food etc. But the writer of Hebrews warns against these strange teachings FOR IT IS GOOD FOR THE HEART TO BE ESTABLISHED BY GRACE, NOT BY MEATS. No outward observances can sustain the inner life; it's by grace alone, grace that comes from the throne of grace, that the heart must be established.

Hebrews 12:28-29 Therefore, since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us be filled with gratitude, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. 29For our God is a consuming fire.…

Our altar is the cross. The Levitical priesthood is entirely different from the new worship. The old priesthood has no part in the sacrifices of the cross and the new worship has no part in the old sacrifices. THE SIN OFFERING, OF WHICH THE BLOOD WAS BROUGHT INTO THE HOLY PLACE BY THE HIGH PRIEST, WAS __not eaten __ BURNT OUTSIDE THE CAMP. The sin-offering leads to seperation and rejection. He was cast out of the city as one made sin for us. Hebrews 11:10, Hebrews 13:14 THEREFORE WE BEAR HIS REPROACH.

Outside the camp is in fellowship with Jesus, crucified to the world and in death to sin. He not only provided a sin-offering for us but the new and living Way
Hebrews 10:19-25
Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

Search the scriptures to show thyself approved/propitiated.

Hebrews 1:1-4 Christ greater than prophets and angels

, confirmed in verse 5-14 paying closest attention to what we have heard. First practical warning over the 5 warnings in the book of Hebrews.

Oh the ambience!
And [in that garden] the Lord God caused to grow from the ground every tree that is desirable and pleasing to the sight and good (suitable, pleasant) for food; the tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the [experiential] knowledge (recognition) of [the difference between] good and evil. Genesis 2:9

(The ripe fruit you greatly desired has gone from you, and all your luxury and splendor have gone from you -- they will never ever be found again!) Revelation 18:14

The pendulum that swings in the background.

The word in the background.

The path will always reveal the path. Keeping to what is experienced as firsthand knowledge acquired from the path already walked in, the door opens from what is seen and known to reveal new wisdom and understanding ... the heart search that opens onto new fields of understanding.

Those on this journey are those who are planted alongside the river of living water, from where wisdom flows. Yoked with Christ the fruit of the spirit becomes the way to spirituality and partnership in sowing the incorruptible seed becomes the way of life.

‘God asked Cain to adjust his understanding of what is good to God's understanding of goodness.(reconciliation) If Cain does well by God's standard, God will accept him….

If Cain insists on setting his own standards for what is acceptable, sin "is crouching at the door.”

That poetic phrase captures the nature of our rebellion against God. Sin desires to own us, and our refusal to let God set the standard for right and wrong in our lives is the fast track to sin.’…

The Hebrew terms used in this verse are exactly the same ones spoken to Eve in Genesis 3:16. These are from the root words tashuwqah, translated "desire," and mashal, translated "rule over." Despite sin's "desire" for control over him, Cain must "rule over" his temptations and not give in.’

In discussing the family of God, it’s context is always within obedience as the cleansing of evil by the Word. God always hastens to meet us there.

Cleansing of the soul means separation from evil. The new nature’s inherent power finds it’s fulfillment because the soul is being drawn and detached from all else by the Love that absorbs and takes it all up with God. So we see the lad of Psalms 119:9 reflecting the wisdom character of the Psalms as is so often used in Proverbs also.
The innocence's need of instruction in the ways of the world introduced; The soul, finding here it’s attraction, is set truly free, made master of itself, and of it’s circumstance; while it realizes at the same time it’s dependance and only safe shelter in the divine strength.
Being blessed is symbolized by fire on the head, as being God led, or it can symbolize the uncomfortable realities of life. Those realities are visited upon oneself by the God Who calls Himself, Today. God’s approval can always be measured in the production of the right spirit finding expression in praise arising from the upright heart.

More background

God has been building His Habitat since the beginning. Wisdom has built the house, understanding has established that house, but knowledge is what fills it. Seemingly mankind was left without tools to work out the means to live in a fallen world. But God has been working to engrain obedience to Him and trust as the only way back to the reality of the image of Him that we were first made.

Thousands of years was spent on developing the outward image of what was to be His inner abode. What is seen outwardly as the shadow of the substance is established in the reality of the inner working.

The image, male and female. Made from dust and built from a rib. Then a body prepared for Christ and His church built from wisdom, understanding and the knowledge of all that pertains to it. From the old creation to the new creation.

“Upon Whom you see the Spirit descending and abiding upon (outwardly) the same is He that baptizes with the Holy Spirit (inwardly)” Jesus first received and worked out Himself (to form the tools) of what was to be His gift to us (inwardly) Faith is that gift obtainable from the knowledge and acceptance of His finished work to restore us. A blessing to be received on the day we believe. Faith in God that is expressed in love to those to whom God loves.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the crown and glory of Jesus’ work. A personal relationship that no longer is from the outside inward but is worked from the inner and shows expression in the outer being. His building is His abiding.

Jesus baptizes His own in faithful abiding and obedience to the inner working. The rivers of living water flowing as it washes the conscience, bathed in the blood of Whom we have to do. Faith is the key to the knowledge that unlocks the door, the new nature’s instinct that recognizes and receives in love the Divine guidance of all that the Holy Spirit supplies as our food and drink.

The Holy Spirit is the inflowing, the seal of His love, and the power for our reasonable service as the children of the heavenly Holy Father. Edification in loving others is the outflowing and the other half of reasonable service.

I guess that’s enough background to begin with. T’ll get around to it slowly but surely ;)

The book of Hebrews ~ modified~ and why I believe it to be written by Priscilla, besides …
Interesting. . .since I've always wondered if Apollos were the author.
But Priscilla taught Apollos, so-o-o-o. . .

However, the author travels with Timothy (13:23), and the letter ends with a Pauline final greeting (13:24-25), so-o-o-o. . .
The contrast with Paul is in the equalitarian terms in an almost floral pictorial relating to Christ and the church.
If it is Paul who is trying to convince these Hebrews, who were contemplating returning to Judaism,
in chps 1-3 he is demonstrating that faith in Christ is the same faith as the OT, but better because
as the name "Son" is superior (chp 1:1-3) to "prophet," so the revelation of the Son is superior to revelation of prophets,
as the name "Son" is superior to "angel," so Jesus is superior to the angels (1:4-14).
Jesus was a man like us (chp 2),
but a man greater even than Moses (chp 3:1-6).
Warning: God's own people failed to believe in the past (3:7-19),
do no fail to believe again (chp 4:1-13).
Chapter 4 offers equality for all before God.
Believe in your new High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek (4:14-5:10),
The foundation of the city they were looking forward to was built on a promise, an analogy in Paul’s writings but never exemplified.
The promise of an everlasting inheritance was earthly land, which promise Abraham saw as a promise of the heavenly city in the heavenly land, not as earthly land which he never received (11:13-16).
The readers were Essenes that would have understood angel’s significance in opposition to the temple ways, which don’t seem to have been an eyewitness testimony to the content.
Or he is referring, either to the angels who gave the Law at Sinai (Ac 7:53; Gal 3:19; Dt 33:1-2), or to the archangel Michael whom the Jews expected would be the supreme figure in the Messianic kingdom.
They expected 2 lines of Messiah, one a king, the other a priest, but the book joins them together in melchezedec. No child-parent content that Paul displays.
Actually, it is Ps 110:4, rather than the author of Hebrews, which joins them together.
Under the Law, the priesthood was restricted to the tribe of Levi, but Ps 110--two oracles concerning the Messianic King-Priest, locates the priesthood in a Messiah from the tribe of Judah (v.4), and in the order of Melchizedek, rather than the priestly order of Aaron.

And since the law was given under the priesthood (Heb 7:11), the change of the priesthood from Aaron to Christ necessarily required a change in the Law (Heb 7:12).
Likewise, Christ also being the new High Priest then makes him the new Lawgiver, thereby transferring to Christ the office of Moses, the lawgiver, and the office of Aaron, the High Priest.
And then the New Covenant (Heb 8:8) necessarily made the Mosaic Covenant obsolete (Heb 8:13).

So you have a complete setting aside of the OT order in Hebrews-- Moses the Mediator and Lawgiver, the Aaronic Priesthood, the ceremonial law and the Mosaic Covenant.

The Law established the Priesthood of Aaron, which priesthood Priscilla has many active parts in the forming of the church and a careful examination of the text would have her at the right place at the right time. Of course without a signature who knows, but she would also be most likely to have left her named off because of gaining acceptability, as the customs were then.

The author was a co-worker with Timothy, so often Barnabas is questioned as author but the author is one learned 2nd hand, which narrows it down from him/Barnabus (pretty sure he was eyewitness). Apollos (Luther’s guess) has obvious speculation shadowing it.

Paul gives the milk, not the meat, presented in the shadow not the substance contained in Hebrews. (if he ever got past that (key statement) this would be that) The postmark reads, Rome Italy, 65 AD ‘They of Italy salute you’ Hebrews 13:24

Reflections of the Qumram tied to Stephen’s position can be found in Acts 7, Amos 5

Compare

Acts of the Apostle 7:

2,9, 30-31, 36, 38 with Hebrews 2: 5,8

acts 7:17, 22-23, 29 with Hebrews 7:4, 10

act 7:44-50 with Hebrews 11: 10,14,16,23; Hebrews 13:12, 14

act 7:25-26, 35-36, 51,53 with Hebrews 13:17,19 and the full chap 11

If that angel were depicted aside that of the militant stance of neither here nor there, for or against, a foot in the water and another foot on land. Basically the 3 tents suggested would not be sufficient for a true picture of that depicted but that does not diminish the sound of their voices.

Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's house, testifying to what would be said in the future. It was all done according to the pattern or dipiction of Christ seen in the wilderness tabernacle. Hebrews 8:5

Thanks so much.

"faithful as a servant, testifying to what would be said in the future"--revealed in the NT, those things relating to the church (God's house) that would be more clearly and completely revealed in the gospel.

Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's house, but Christ is faithful as a son over God's house, and we are God's house.

The pattern of Christ in the wilderness tabernacle is: the tabernacle is the sanctuary of God's presence (heaven), into which Christ our High Priest entered with his own blood (9:11-12), instead of bull or goat blood.

Right?

As our apostle and high priest Hebrews 3:1, Hebrews 3:6 what can He do for us and what does He demand as (a) our Apostle and (b) our High Priest? Endurance is to consider Him. Here’s an interesting page on it Lesson 9: To Endure, Consider Jesus (Hebrews 3:1-6) | Bible.org

The author already mentioned this in 2:17 and will develop it at length later. Here (s) italics mine ~he only mentions it in passing, and so will I. The Apostle of our faith brings God down to us; the High Priest brings us up to God. He presented His blood on the mercy seat as the propitiation for our sins, thus satisfying the just wrath of God, so that we are now welcome in His presence.

Although he was never called an apostle, in function Moses fulfilled that role in Israel. God sent Moses under authority to deliver His people from bondage in Egypt. But Moses was not a high priest. That role fell to his brother, Aaron. Jesus fulfills both roles in one. He is our Apostle and High Priest. We must submit to His commands as the authority of God Almighty. We must come before God only through the merits of Jesus’ blood. Think often and carefully of Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession!

2. Consider Jesus as greater than Moses.
From verse 2 through 6b, the author develops the theme that Jesus is greater than Moses.
“Apostle” literally means, one who is sent under authority. The Gospel of John often refers to Jesus as being sent by the Father (John 3:17, 34; 5:36-38; and others). He came to reveal the Father to us and to accomplish the Father’s purpose, to redeem us by shedding His blood. Jesus said that He did nothing on His own initiative, but He only sought the will of the one who sent Him (John 5:30).

We cannot know God except through Jesus (Luke 10:22). We cannot know about heaven and eternal life, except that One who eternally dwelled there left His glory there and came to reveal these things. Jesus prayed (John 17:6), “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world.” We have the inspired record of what these men saw and heard in the New Testament. Jesus told the disciples after His resurrection, “all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled” (Luke 24:44). Those are the three divisions of the Hebrew Bible. Thus the Old and New Testaments point to Jesus, the one who was sent under God’s authority to reveal Him and to accomplish His will.

B. CONSIDER JESUS AS THE HIGH PRIEST OF OUR CONFESSION.

The background of priesthood having been defined (have we noted the similarity of the change from hereditary priesthood to Nazarite judge/king/priest that is also found patterned in Hannah and God’s desires being met to accomplish a common goal in 1 Samuel 1-1 Samuel 7) ?

From there to the demand for a king, the family of kingship must also be considered as to the cost of accomplishment, or the shame of not having what it takes. Luke 14:25-34 ( the cost of discipleship seen within Saul and David’s rule and the cost to their family) 1 Samuel 17-1 Samuel 18 (the difference between covenant relationships and sibling rivalries) The underdog gaining a spiritual friend as a special bondship. An art to acquire or a soul joined thru choice? You decide.

Like it’s yours but yours is just a factless opinion. If you disagree fine. I don’t care. I’m sure it doesn’t matter one iota.

fact - Paul wrote Hebrews

fact - It was written to Hebrew Christians who already know about the Hebrews 4 Sabbath commandment and the Heb 8 sanctuary in heaven and the Heb 11 list of OT saints.

fact - it was written for those who already knew about the Hebrews 5 details of the life of Christ.

Nothing in it regarding a Greek named Priscilla

===================================

from: Paul the Apostle Wrote Hebrews

Eusebius writing about Clement's statement: In the 300’s AD Eusebius in writing about and quoting the very early 100’s AD Clement of Alexandria (c. 150 – c. 215 AD) who writes:

“He (Clement) says that the Epistle to the Hebrews is the work of Paul, and that it was written to the Hebrews in the Hebrew language; but that Luke translated it carefully and published it for the Greeks, and hence the same style of expression is found in this epistle (Hebrews) and in the Acts (written by Luke c. 60’s to 80’s AD).” Eusebius, Church History 6.14.2

Background of the fall to bring it up to the book of Hebrews

God named the light DAY and He named the darkness NIGHT. God also named mankind ADAM to include male and female. He named EARTH and SEAS as well as the rivers flowing out of Eden.

Adam male, named the animals and Adam male, after the fall, named Eve to separate Adam female, from Adam male. That’s more or less the history of the naming of creation.

So what the fall accomplished basically was what the wise Solomon suggested with the baby that two women claimed to be the parent of. ADAM, male and female were split in two.

Separated Adam = male and female entities. Now the new Adam, Christ, seeks to return the split apart humans to become one with Him. His representation as the male requires the joining of the female counterpart, which is the church, to Him.

Because that’s not accomplished in the law, minor children being the representatives, but by grace; freedom from the law as the matured teaching. To be anything but fully in either …. is a mixture of law/grace that straddles both covenants.

That’s precisely what the book of Hebrews lists as the dangers of falling back to a covenant not associated with the new high priest for the saving of our souls.

Nothing in it regarding a Greek named Priscilla

Nothing in it regarding an author named Paul either, unlike every other Pauline letter. What makes you think it is a "fact" that Paul wrote it?

And Paul, who makes so much of his status as an apostle and eyewitness of the risen Christ (e.g. Gal. 1:11–16; 1 Cor. 15:8), could hardly have written that he received the message of Christ in a second-hand way, ‘from those who heard him’ (2:3). (New Bible Commentary)
