Do you think that $600 is enough? Do you object to Trump wanting people to have $2000, is that too much?
I don’t think $600 is enough, but that’s what Trump asked for. Why didn’t he request $2000 months ago? Instead he waited until a couple days before Christmas.

What you mean to say is that they did nothing until two days before Christmas when they demanded a vote on 4,000 plus pages of something that required a vote almost immediately, standard operating procedure for Pelosi and the Dems, if a crisis does not exist by all means create one and then dont waste it. Take full advantage of it.
Remember , the House was working on a $1.8 trillion package during the summer but the Senate refused to cooperate.

Transition Highlights: Trump’s Fierce Criticism of Stimulus Bill Leaves Republicans Torn
The democrats are gonna put up a bill giving everything trump said and if the republicans block it they everything falls on the republicans. So I say thank you to our outgoing president

Trump correctly vetoed the joke of a bill.

It’s supposed to be a domestic bill for relief of Americans, but they made a 5,000 page, pork laden bill that gives billions of dollars overseas, for just one example, and only 600 dollars for relief, whereas Trump demands that 2,000 dollars be given, and the pork be removed.

Most Americans know what the facts are here, but partisan ideologue hacks blame Trump, as per usual, when he’s working for Americans benefit, also as per usual.

Actually it is an omnibus bill that includes COVID stimulus as well as foreign spending. The foreign aid was requested by Trump, and the amounts in the bill largely match what he requested. The $600 COVID checks is the amount requested by Trump. The Democrats wanted to include larger checks.

He doesn't need to veto it. It wasn't sent to him the day it was passed, but rather on Wednesday. The term ends Jan 3. Thus if he doesn't do anything, it doesn't go into effect, a pocket veto. A pocket veto can't be overridden.

In that case the new congress has to pass a new bill. But by then various provisions of the first stimulus have expired. And since it's an omnibus funding bill, the government shuts down.

If he is clear that he won't sign it without a $2000 first payment, that puts Republicans into a really difficult political situation. However he wasn't quite clear on that. He could still sign it even though he doesn't like it.

Trump will look very bad if he fails to sign this, not that he doesn’t look very bad already. Checks would have gone out next week if he had signed it right away. Now that won’t happen. Congress gave him what he asked for. If he had wanted larger COVID checks he should have worked with Congress.

Trump would be foolish to give these "breadcrumbs" as Covid-19 releif. Pelosi said that 1200 was bread crumbs... now she's got 5000 pages and all the people who are paying taxes would get.. is 600.

It's all politics.. the people don't matter. They are pawns in a political chess match.

Trump was the one who proposed $600. Now he doesn’t want to give it. Not signing the bill would mean a government shutdown and a suspension of unemployment compensation.

An article on FB said that the COVID-19 Relief Bill does not give aid to foreign nations. However, in the article itself, it stated that the aid to the foreign nations was in the Federal Budget Bill, which included the COVID-19 Relief Bill. In other words, for the COVID-19 Relief Bill to pass, Congress had to pass the new Budget.

In other words, the foreign aid was in the Budget, but not directly in the COVID-19 bill.

What a scam !

Not a dime should go to any foreign nation while Americans are hurting.

No, it is all one bill. The foreign aid was in the amounts requested by Trump.

HERE is the Bill. I have to admit it's 5,593 pages does include many things that have nothing to do with the Corona Virus. And this is the part that maybe people are talking about Gender issues in Pakistan.

(2) ASSISTANCE.—Of the funds appropriated
19 under title III of this Act that are made available
20 for assistance for Pakistan, not less than
21 $15,000,000 shall be made available for democracy
22 programs and not less than $10,000,000 shall be
23 made available for gender programs
.

I would love to see our politicians just come up with a bill that isn't loaded with extras. I believe this one even has something about water in Montana. Which I'm sure is a worthy cause, but why clutter up an emergency bill with it? And the irony is that with all the billions being spent they have us average folks arguing over $600 vs $2000 dollars...

He is going to delay veto it until the new Congress is sworn in so they will start over.
Maybe. We will see. Do you think he really wants a government shutdown?

Remember, this is an omnibus bill. These “extras” like foreign aid were requested by the Trump administration.

You do realize gender programs are women’s rights programs, right?
In Pakistan, which ranks second lowest of any country in the world for women’s rights, the programs are specifically to improve women’s access to economic opportunities, increase girls’ access to education, improve maternal and child health, combat gender-based violence, and increase women’s political and civic participation.

This isn’t money for sex changes.

Ill have to find what I was reading, because I read sex change in specific. If it is what you say, that is good though. Like I said, not against foreign aide. The world is going through covid, and we need to stick together. But it needs to focus on that. That was a shock factor to read though. Ill have to find the source again.

Fine, it's all Trumps fault... Maybe he is all over Pakistani gender issues, I don't know. My point is that during this "crisis" our politicians can't stop playing politics even for a moment. They see this as a opportunity to get their pet projects through, without regard to how it affects us or what is good for people who are hurting right now.
