How about Ephesians 4:11-13?
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfectingof the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Don't these verses indicate a need for the same organization of 12 Apostles to be on the Earth today since we haven't come to a unity of faith yet?

Well we do know that God has an image and a person. We also know He is like us:

(Old Testament | Genesis 1:27)

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

(New Testament | Hebrews 1:2 - 3)

2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

(New Testament | 1 John 3:2)

2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

The bible speaks of three things that make up the very essence of God.

Not attributes

(1)God is Spirit
(2) God is light
(3) God is love

Face to face in the revealed knowledge .Not mirror image.

Image of His loving person. Again God is Love in him there is no darkness . Not image likeness (Mirror ) A Spirit has no form.

When men attribute the things seen to them selves as mirror images then a whole multitude of gods are created with no end in sight .

God is not a man as us neither is there any fleshly infallible umpire that stands between the unseen world to come and the course of this corrupted creation .

The gospel is the power of God unto salvation not the flesh of the disciples moved as apostles. they are not gods in the mirror of men .

Its image of God not likeness of men .God is Spirit unlike any Spirit as the father of all life. He remains without beginning of Spirt life or end thereof.

We do not turn the apostles into a pantheon gods by accrediting the work of our unseen God the human hands . We are made aware of that wile of the spirit of error .

.God sends his messenger apostle with His thoughts and Ways .He gave Paul the words Stand upright on thy feet. The word of God worked in the person .God is not served by corrupted human hands as if he needed something from the clay he forms Christ in.

Acts 14:7-14 And there they preached the gospel. And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked: The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people. Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

You could say not a legion of gods as patron saints .One is our Father in heaven. The apostles remained powerless some tried to buy it with money . Satan failed at creating a pantheon of gods . The first commandment remains no other gods not seen before Him

God is light, Love, and has a resurrected spiritual body. He is not a man, but He has an image, a person and we will be like Him when we see Him. That is because we will also have a spiritual resurrected body.

Not a mirror image . God is not a man (Creation)

Can't see a Spirit any more than a person can see the wind . There is no such thing as holiness of the corrupted flesh of mankind. There is holiness of the Spirit because of the ressurection .

I would offer the body of Jesus did not change. It did not profit just as Jesus said in John 6 . His abiding word is Spirit and is life giving. .. it did profit.

God is not a man he has no literal form .Some did know him after the flesh. not by or through the flesh. That window of opportunity closed when he disappeared out of sight just as blasphemy against the Son of man, Jesus is no longer forgivable after he disappeared out of sight.

The one time propmised demonstration of the lamb slain from before the foundation is over.

2 Corinthians 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

"What the Bible says about God's Form and Shape
(From Forerunner Commentary)

Genesis 1:26

The actual creation of Adam and Eve and the placing of them in the Garden of Eden was not an end in itself but only a necessary step at the beginning of a process that continues right down to today.

God is creating a community.

From the very beginning, God implies the expansion of His own community. He says, "Let Us," indicating a community already exists. Man was made, physically, in God's image, and he begins with characteristics of shape and form in common with his Maker. The rest of the Bible fills in the details of how mankind is being brought from having not only form and shape in common with his Maker, but also character, so that he fits perfectly into the community that the Maker is expanding.

When the Son of God came, He came with a message from His Father. Jesus gave as the title to the message that He brought, "the good news of the Kingdom of God" (Mark 1:14-15). This is the Boss Himself, and this is the title He Himself gave. It was the good news of the Kingdom of God.

Is there any doubt in our minds that God is forming a community? Is there any doubt that Jesus Christ will rule this community, first, and that afterward, He will turn everything over to the Father? (I Corinthians 15:28)? There is nothing ambiguous here. Is God forming a community?

The important thing for us is what ramifications the good news of the Kingdom of God has on the way we live our lives. In the course of the unfolding of Christ's ministry, and the apostles' afterward, we find some interesting things that have a direct impact on the way we live our lives.

First, Christ was the Son of God. Does not a son indicate a family relationship? “Son” is used in the Bible in at least two different ways. One means "a direct descendant of." The other is used in the sense of "characteristics of, but not necessarily direct descendant of." The Bible says plainly that Jesus was the Son of God, a direct relationship. Since He was of the same Family, there is a family relationship. He was not only a literal Son born of Mary of the Holy Spirit, but He also showed the characteristics of God. He was God.

Is Christ indicating a family relationship with us in Mark 3:34-35? We have already seen that the community that He is creating is a kingdom. This kingdom is also a Family. Everybody is related, all being sons of the Creator. Everybody has the same characteristics. Do not the descendants of parents look like their parents? Sure they do.

Everything fits together beautifully, and logically. God is reproducing Himself.

Consider Romans 8:14-15. Is that a family? Thus, if we have the Spirit of God, we are part of a family. We are Jesus' brothers. We are Jesus' sisters. We are Jesus' mothers (see Matthew 12:50). We have the same Father as He did.

Genesis 1:26-28

As God created, it is extremely significant that of all He created, only one creation is in His image, mankind. This is important to the purpose God is working out. Also, it is significant that of all the creatures God created, only mankind is given dominion over anything else, animate or inanimate.

Verses 26 and 28 show the first inkling of man's awesome potential. We are in God's likeness and His image, and have been given dominion in order to fulfill that potential.

If one looked up the word "image" in a Hebrew dictionary, it would not be very satisfying, being a typical textbook definition. It merely means "a shadowing forth, a phantom, a sketch, an outline." It gives the impression of a mere shape, a stickman. However, it has another, more interesting definition that means "whatever makes a man remarkable or procures respect."

The word "likeness" is commonly thought by linguists to mean nothing more than an intensification of the word "image." Even though it is a different word, its meaning is very similar. Putting those two words together, the Hebrew clearly shows that we are remarkable, especially in comparison to all other life. We are in the image of God.

Though we are remarkable, we are merely an outline, a mere copy or representation. We are illusory compared to God, because He is the reality.

The word “image” deserves further examination. The word "image" could evoke different mental images depending upon one's perspective. Over the past several decades in the United States, "image" has acquired a deceptive application that obscures its true meaning. This application skews one's understanding, interfering with the meaning God intends.

For example, today, a politician hires a publication firm to create an image for him that the people will find acceptable, and, thus, vote him into office. If someone is trying to find employment, they dress a certain way to project a particular image for employers to perceive. Corporations also try very hard to find the right image before the public.

To an American, an “image” has subtly come to mean "the illusion of what something is presented to be" rather than "the essence of what it really is."

In Hebrew, the word translated "image" is not "a deceptive illusion." Rather, image means "the likeness of one subject expressed in another." This difference is important. It means, "the likeness of one subject, God, expressed in the other, man." The verse indirectly says that man is very much like God.

The Hebrew meaning is frequently used in English in reference to family resemblance or characteristics. We say that a child is the spitting image of his father or his mother, possibly referring to physical or social traits.

The "image" is no illusion; it is the reality. It is the family trait. It is the essence of reality.

Genesis 18:1-9

The Lord appeared, and Abraham saw Him coming. What did He look like? He looked like a man. But it was the Lord because Abraham bowed down and worshipped Him, and the Lord did not reject his worship.

In verse 4, Abraham says, "Please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet." God has feet. Then he says in verse 5, "And I will bring a morsel of bread." We find that God took the bread and the meat, and the three of them ate. He spoke, so He had a voice, and He conversed with Abraham and Sarah.

God shows other qualities here that are interesting to think about. How long did it take Abraham to run, order a calf killed, have someone slaughter it, bleed it, skin it, butcher it, roast the meat, and then serve it to Him? It must have taken a few hours at least. In the meantime, God is sitting under a tree, and He is at the same time running the whole universe. He must have been handling all of the other things that go on in the universe from that chair or pillow He was sitting on.

Do we ever feel rushed because we have too many things to do? Yet, here is the busiest Being in all of creation, and He had enough time to sit down, wash His feet, and wait patiently while they made Him a meal. Do we ever become impatient? In this example, we see patience exemplified.

So, we see God exhibits qualities other than form and shape, even though they may not be mentioned directly.

I can see what you offered some sort of Chronological order?

It does not make the warning not to add or subtract from the then perfect.it is still sealed with seven seals till the end of time. .

The Holy Spirit spoke beforehand assuring the elect will not be deceived by a voice that says; "thus sayeth the Lord I had a dream or a vison, inspired prophecy .

When we try the spirits to see if they are inspired from above by God or of men as false apostles earthly inspired we can rely on the warning that Satan will bring lying wonders until the end of time and along with the lying wonders God sends a strong delusion to them that believe the lie..

The Bible, the book of the law (sola scriptura) has nothing missing by which we could know God more adequately .Some denominations that have set up a hierarchy of venerable men would hope others would also be moved to Chronological order leaving room for more revelations .

Why seek after more that he has revealed?

Mark 13:21-23 King James Version (KJV) And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

We no longer know His will in part now that the perfect has come. We see him face to face. as it is written .. . or faith unseen, to the same faith.

1 Corinthians 13:10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away

God is not a man he has no literal form.

What do you think of Bible verses that state that God has a form?

Philippians 2
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

John 5:37 Moreover, the Father who sent me has testified on my behalf. But you have never heard his voice nor seen his form

In the original Greek, the words translated above as "form" are completely different, with Philippians using morphe (μορφῇ) and John using eidos (εἶδος). I'm not entirely sure the semantic range of both words in the Greek of the day, but the fact that the KJV apparently renders eidos in John as 'shape' (Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape), while no translation of Philippians 2:6 renders morphe as 'shape', is probably instructive, particularly since English has several words descendent from the Greek that do have to do with shape, such as morphology (in Biology, the study of the size, shape, and structure of animals and plants).

Say, what is the favored English translation of the Bible in Mormonism? Isn't it the KJV? I wonder why you apparently chose to use some other translation of John 5:37 to make your point, then. Hmm. Strange.

That's nice. Find any version translating morphe in Philippians 2:6 as "shape" and it might even mean something for the theological discussion between Christians and Mormons.

Here is one I like:

(New Testament | Hebrews 1:1 - 3)

1 GOD, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

I'm sorry, is Hebrews 1:1-3 now Philippians 2:6? This is not what I asked for.

And the word used in Hebrews 1:3 is χαρακτὴρ, from which we get the English word 'character' (so it's different than what we've been discussing). I'm a bit surprised you'd like this one so much, though, as it touches upon a point of Trinitarian theology that is affirmed in the Creed that you guys hate so much in exactly this language: the word that is translated in verse three as 'person' is of course the Greek hypostaseos (ὑποστάσεως), more recognizable in English as hypostasis, which was included in the original Nicene Creed of 325 (before its revision and expansion to include belief in the divinity of the Holy Spirit, to fight against the heresy of the Pneumatomachi, in 381 at the Council of Constantinople) in the following clause:

[But those who say: 'There was a time when he was not;' and 'He was not before he was made;' and 'He was made out of nothing,' or 'He is of another substance' or 'essence,' or 'The Son of God is created,' or 'changeable,' or 'alterable'— they are condemned by the holy catholic and apostolic Church.]

I did NOT say God is a man. God is NOT a man. Jesus now has a glorified resurrected spiritual body. He has been perfected. God has a form:

Hi Thanks for the reply, much information and thanks for sharing different ways of how we say we hear what our father in heaven is saying . Again I would offer God is not a man as us and neither is there any fleshly infallible umpire set between God who is Spirit not seen, and mankind seen called a daysman . Even Jesus when accused of being the one Good teaching Master as Lord (a fleshly daysman Job 9:33) denied not having any part in it. When a person bowed down to what the eyes see flesh and blood .Jesus gave glory to the father saying on God not sen is good . Good is his signature (let there be and it was good. The good and perfect seal confirming the labor of his love or work of his faith that does work in us with us who do have faith.

Mark 10:16-18 King James Version (KJV)16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them. And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

The Son of man Jesus refused to stand in the holy unseen place of God as Good Master Lord. (the abomination of desolation) But rather gave glory to the unseen father . In that way only God is the Good teaching master). One is our teaching master. Christ in us. Emanuel God with us.

We understand who he is by the temporal things made. But again he is the Faithfull Creator not a creation natural (a beginning) But rather supernatural the Faithfull Creator of beginnings

Those who do try and make the Son of man into a god it would seem they bypass the wrath that is being revealed daily .A corrupted dying creation.

Note... (purple in parenthesis) below my added opinion to what i beleive the Holy Spirit is teaching.

Romans1;18-23 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, (they glorified his flesh) neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. (They imagined he was a man) Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the (unseen) glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man,(the Son of man Jesus) and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Image is likeness. He created a community of two like a father and son. Humanity. Seeing God is not a man as us he has no DNA to give birth to a offspring. He is attributed as a father and Son to teach us of peace of God. Two working as one a loving authority with another a willing sufferer. The peace that comes from God's understanding as it is written . I would call it the government or gospel of peace, the peace he works in all Christians making our burden lighter giving us a living hope beyond our own hope .

Mankind is one creation to represent the work or ministry of two . Male he made mankind in his image. Mankind is one creation of flesh and bone the whole whole person not female formed after a bone . But of the same flesh and bone whole person . Not separate . Love as the marriage. I would think Gods Love working in us waiting for the promise (Hebrew 11:40)

Mankind as one creation. It fell and the glory of God departed exposing the nakedness' of mankind without the presence of the glory of God God is Light the very essence of His Spirit . Mankind now knowing they were naked literally seen by their differences, the eye witness. Their oneness or community was cut off the load was made greater the suffering increased the gospel gave them the direction to go as a light unto the path believers yoked with Christs t have their burden lighter For instance when two or three, a family a tribe, a nation of people gather together under the hearing of His faithful gospel as it is written he promises he is there working with them.

Man in our image . . . . imagine two are one? One is literally one. Not our image flesh, give birth to flesh But his spiritual unseen image

Genesis 1:26-27 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man (mankind) in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them

Male and female he made mankind the rest of the creation two separate creations . Men and woman as sons of God which we are, in the new order will literally be one new creation .Neither male nor female, Jew nor gentile.

Remember children are gift from the lord. Not a gift of a that which is born of the flesh lifeless (still born) ; But a gift which is born of the Spirit the life of the flesh.it has no life

John 3:3-7Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

That's nice. Find any version translating morphe in Philippians 2:6 as "shape" and it might even mean something for the theological discussion between Christians and Mormons.

Strong's Concordance
eidos: visible form, shape, appearance, kind
Original Word: εἶδος, ους, τό
Part of Speech: Noun, Neuter
Transliteration: eidos
Phonetic Spelling: (i'-dos)
Definition: appearance, fashion, shape, sight
Usage: visible form, shape, appearance, outward show, kind, species, class.
HELPS Word-studies
1491 eídos (a neuter noun derived from 1492 /eídō, "to see, apprehend") – properly, the sight (i.e. of something exposed, observable), especially its outward appearance or shape (J. Thayer). 1491 (eídos) emphasizes "what is physically seen" (BAGD) before mentally or spiritually apprehended. See 1492 (eidō, oida).

Example: 1491 /eídos ("visible appearance") refers to the outward form taken on by each of the three Persons of the tri-personal God: a) the Holy Spirit in Lk 3:22: "And the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove"; b) Jesus, in Lk 9:29: "And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming"; and c) the Father, in Jn 5:37: "You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form."

Both "shape" and "form" can clearly be used interchangeably in either verse.

How about Ephesians 4:11-13?
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

But it doesn't mention how many apostles, and besides this, there were more than just twelve apostles. There was the Twelve, with St. Matthias replacing Judas Iscariot as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. But in addition to the Twelve we have Paul, Apollos, Barnabas, Junia and Andronicus, just to name a few.

With the death of the apostles, the surviving apostles didn't choose anyone to replace them. Instead the apostles ordained bishops to succeed them in shepherding the churches. So in Rome St. Peter was succeeded by Linus, and then later on Clement, and so forth. In Antioch Paul and Peter were first succeeded by Evodius, and then Ignatius. And the same everywhere else the apostles had established churches.

If there were a need for twelve living apostles, then Jesus and His Apostles did an exceptionally poor job, and there is precisely zero evidence in anything either the Lord or any of His Apostles said or did which would provide us with anything.

So obviously that isn't what Paul refers to here. But rather that there were some who had been called to be apostles, but not everyone was supposed to be an apostle; and not necessarily that there should always be apostles. Because if there was always supposed to be apostles, then the apostles themselves would have actually appointed more apostles to replace them. But they didn't. What they did, as already noted, was choose bishops. Which is why the Church's apostolic authority is vested in the Office of the Keys.
