Hi,

Sometimes when I don't understand something correctly in the bible, or when I find out that I'm doing something contrary to what God says (or when I find out that I'm not doing something the correct way), I tend to resort to self-harm.

Is self-harm a sign that I am not saved?

I struggled with self injury for around 10 years. Every once in awhile Ill have a physical trigger, but Ive worked through the inward issues, so I have overcome it by the power of Jesus Christ.

But no, it is not a sign you are unsaved. Salvation is from the Lord, and the enemy will try his best to condemn and make you feel guilty for any weakness you struggle with. Every victory you have with this, just thank God and give Him the glory. For any time you fall, talk to Him and meditate on scriptures of healing and His love. Tell the enemy to leave you, because no prince or princess of a king deserves such treatment. And at the name of Jesus, the enemy MUST flee. So sorry for your struggle. Don't give up. Do you know what times trigger you the most to self injure? Coping skills (things I like to do, artsy stuff or exercise) is what helped distract me until I could work through the root causes.

Can you give an example of this self harm and is it intentional or a 'tendency' to self harm?

Usually, I would punch myself as hard as I can on the head (or slam my head on something).

I don't know if it is intentional or a tendency. All I know is that I get a strong, overwhelming feeling to self-harm.

Do you have a punching bag or pillow? It is a good replacement. Or running. God loves you Jaedan. It makes Him sad you are hurting, but you can fight this.

Jesus bore the pain for your sin so you didn't have to. No need for you to continue trying to pay what is already paid in full. Accept that Christ took care of that part, and don't be so hard on yourself.

Please arrange to get medical help as soon as you can.
Self harming oneself is not a healthy reaction no matter why one does it.

It can be found mentioned in the Bible and it is always done by those who do not worship God.
See Deut14:1, Lev 19:28 & Mark 5:5.

You have no need to punish yourself for any sin or failure to obey God for Jesus has already Bourne that punishment.

Please get expert advice and help.

No, it's just a sign that you are believing some terrible and destructive things, and that you need to talk these out with someone qualified to hear them and help you get to a healthier place.

Absolutely and in under no circumstances is that a sign that you aren't saved.

What it, is a sign that you are suffering and you need to talk to a qualified medical professional to help you out.

Please seek out help immediately.

The Lord loves you. God cares about you. And there is nothing that can stop Him from loving you. There is nothing that can separate you from God's love which is yours in Jesus. It is yours in Jesus because that is who Jesus is and what Jesus did--for all of us.

No, it is a sign that your mind (flesh) needs a deeper revelation f Jesus sacrifice. We don’t take the punishment of our sins on us, we are supposed to lay them at the cross. Next time you feel guilt, remind yourself that Jesus took your place, so you can place all your guilt and pain on the cross. Then ask Him to give you beauty for ashes. Also, whenever you sense you are doing the opposite of what the Bible says, ask God for help to be able to start walking in your identity as a child of God. Declare the reality of His majesty in you ❤️
