From the "Fired for justifiable cause" files: Chris Krebs takes blame for massive hack: ‘It happened on my watch’

“So, the way I look at it is, yes, it happened on my watch at CISA. And we missed it. A bunch of other folks missed it,” he responded.

Krebs, who was fired by President Trump last month for contradicting him over whether there was fraud during the 2020 election, said he didn’t become aware of the hack that was launched in March until it became public last week.

“This came out in the public after I was terminated,” he said
.
Apparently a clueless bureaucrat ... and obvious beneficiary of the 'Peter Principle'.

You have an issue with a public official taking responsibility?

Yes. He is correct and takes responsibility.

That is what responsible adults in postions of authority do.

There are certain others who could learn from such behavior (but we know never will).

It hasn't happened in four years... they don't know what to make of it.

Oops ... there's more on Krebs's mismanagement:
Cybersecurity agency where Trump fired boss was flagged repeatedly for poor performance

In the weeks just before President Trump fired its leader, the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) was repeatedly flagged by the Homeland Security Department’s watchdog for poor performance, including inadequate physical security planning for election sites, poor intelligence sharing with its private and public partners and weak information security for its own systems, internal reports show.

The repeated Inspector General’s warnings in September and October about CISA -- under then-Director Chris Krebs’ leadership -- provide a stark contrast to Democrats’ and the news media’s portrayal of Krebs as a skilled leader whose firing jeopardized national security

Maybe the first member of the Trump administration to take any responsibility for any problem.

And yet Donald waited until Krebs dared speak against him to drop the hammer.

Squeaky wheel syndrome
So it wasn't the being incompetent part that was the problem.

Of course, given that it's trump (who is widely known for his incompetence) (and the vast number of incompetent people he surrounds himself with) I guess that shouldn't be surprising.

Incorrect.

Incompetent and squeaky was the problem. He might have been fine just being incompetent and he might have been fine being squeaky if competent. Squeaky and incompetent though drew a quick lightning bolt.

I think the issue is with a public official being totally incompetent. But I suppose most people are so used to that being the case , that pointing it out seems both superfluous and harsh.

Nice to know that Donald values silence over competence.
That's not necessarily true, but it is the way of the world. People's sins are most especially noticed when attention is drawn to them ... for whatever the reason. One of Donald Trump's more endearing qualities is his willingness to say "You're fired" when that becomes necessary.

If that's the way of the world, that would make it necessarily true.

Unless you're using a new and whimsical definition of "true"?

According to your link, it was necessary long before he dared speak against Donald.

Your own link claims that Homeland Security (which reports directly to Donald) flagged Krebs for poor job performance. If Donald bothered to read a briefing once in a while, he'd have solved a problem before it embarrassed him... for a change.

Nah. Trump would have been harshly criticized by the media regardless. As to whether it might have made a difference in security of government systems or election systems we'll never know. With incompetence already apparently rampant in CISA, it would have taken years to turn it around. Should he have tried? Obviously, in hindsight.
