Hi Alan... I just replied to Kilk1 in the thread above concerning the same issue with this premise...that is, that the Sabbath was created, hallowed and sanctified before the sin problem entered the world. Not connected in any way to the cross...

Not connected to the cross? I beg to differ! Everything in the Bible is connected to the glorious day that Jesus died on the cross! There is a difference between the old covenant and new covenant for a reason. Jesus Christ was even admonished for *healing people* on the Sabbath by the hypocritical Pharisees who thought they were righteous under their study of the law. Any true believer in Christ who genuinely has the Spirit will be looked upon by God as righteous solely because of the righteousness imparted by the blood of Christ. A sabbath day was nothing but a shadow of glory that the new covenant ushered in by his resurrection. Jesus Christ is our permanent sabbath. We walk by the Sprit under our current dispensation of grace. We are not under the bondage of law that was given to Israelites through laws.

We become that which we were to behold. Christ in us the Hope of Glory. His laws in our hearts and minds. The Word in our Hearts and mouths. That is the word of Faith in which we preach. And that would include the Sabbath my friend. We no LONGER keep the Law because we have to. We KEEP the Law, His Word because it is that which makes us who we ARE in Christ through Christ.

Of course we shouldn't take the Lord's name in vain. I never ever said that we are to continue in sin.

Agreed - Christ's obedience to "honor father and mother" and to "not taking God's name in vain" does absolutely nothing to delete those from the Commandments of God and does nothing in the way of saying it is ok for Christians to break those commandments.

Are you failing to see how faith in Christ is what fulfills the law?

Faith in Christ gives us salvation and justification - and as Romans 6 says it frees us up to walk in obedience to those commands.

So for example in Romans 8:4-11 the saved walk in obedience but the unsaved "do not submit to the Law of God - neither indeed CAN they"

The result is as Paul states it in Rom 3:31 "31 Do we then nullify the Law through faith? Far from it! On the contrary, we establish the Law."

1 Cor 6 tells us "do not be deceived" into thinking that the bad fruit of rebellion against the Law of God is going to inherit the kingdom of God.

We can only honor God, our parents, fulfill the righteousness God calls for us to, overcome sin, and every standard if we are truly placing our faith in the complete work of Christ when he died for us.

The one who "says he knows Christ" walks as Christ walked

1 John 2:
3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 5 but whoever follows His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: 6 the one who says that he remains in Him ought, himself also, walk just as He walked.

Christ said "by their fruits you shall know them" Matt 7.

Rom 2:13 "13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the Law who will be justified."

Justification is a purely "gospel" concept.

Your welcome Kilk. Not really, God's eternal law (10 commandments) as opposed to the Mosaic book of the law *Exodus 24:7 had two different authors. God was the author and originator of the 10 commandments which the scriptures tell us are the work of God alone, written on two tables of stone with Gods own finger *Exodus 32:16; Exodus 31:18. Their purpose as posted earlier was to give us the knowledge of good and evil; sin and righteousness *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4; Psalms 119:172. They do not make anyone perfect. God’s eternal law shows us that we are all sinners in need of a savior and lead us to Christ that we might be forgiven through faith *Galatians 3:22-25. If we have repented from our sins and confessed them to Jesus he is faithful and just to forgive us from our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness * Acts 2:38; 3:19; 8:22; Matthew 3:2; 4:17; Mark 1:15; 6:2; Luke 13:3-5; Proverbs 28:9-13; Romans 6:1-23; 1 John 1:9; Proverbs 28:9-13 and are no longer “UNDER THE LAW” condemned before God of breaking the law {sin} *Romans 8:1-4. However, if we are continuing in known unrepentant sin then we are still “UNDER THE LAW” condemned before God of sin *Romans 3:19-20 and need to seek him in repentance, confession for your sins and faith in his WORD *John 3:15-21. I think I have made my position pretty clear here don't you think? The Mosaic book of the law are shadow laws. Gods 10 commandments are the eternal laws of love and how we express our love to God and man in those who have been born again to walk in God's Spirit to love. God is love and everyone who loves is born of God and is why JESUS says to us if you love me keep my commandments. Unless we are born again in the Spirit to love we cannot see the kingdom of heaven.
I think I understand your position. Just to make sure, are you saying that Romans 7 teaches that Christians aren't under the Mosaic book of the law, but at the same time, the chapter isn't denying that we're still under the Ten Commandments? If I'm misunderstanding, let me know. Thanks! :)

Agreed, the Sabbath has never changed. According to JESUS though, the Sabbath was made for all mankind in Mark 2:27. There was no JEW and no Gentile when the Sabbath was made on the "seventh day" of the creation week *Genesis 2:1-3. There is no rest for the wicked according to the scripture *Isaiah 57:20 and no one enters God's rest by breaking his commandments *Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4; 1 John 2:3-4

I will respectfully have to disagree. IN Context Jesus is talking about what was more important, a person or the Sabbath. The Sabbath was instituted for the nation of Israel alone in the Mosaic Covenant!

And Paul had this to say about the commandments written in stone:

2 Corinthians 3:7
But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

The church in Pauls day was also meeting on sunday:

1 Corinthians 16
King James Version

16 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.

2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Agreed according to the scriptures the disciples after the death and resurrection of JESUS met everyday of the week according to the scriptures *Acts of the Apostles 2:46-47. This of course does not make every day of the week a holy day of rest and neither does it abolish God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments that according to the new covenant scriptures give us the knowledge of Good and Evil; Sin and Righteousness *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4. There is no scripture in God's Word that says Gods 4th commandment has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day. This is a man-made teaching and tradition handed down from the Roman Catholic Church that has led many to break God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments. JESUS warns us about this in Matthew 15:3-9.

I agree that Sunday is not the new Sabbasth. But the church has no c,mmand to keep Saturday as a Sabbath either.

Paul said this for us to learn by:

5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

YOu will not find one command that tells the Church (not Israel) to obey the Sabbath.

God's 4th commandment *Exodus 20:8-11 is one of God's 10 commandments that according to the scriptures give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4. According to the scriptures if we break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin *James 2:10-11. All those who continue to practice known unrepentant sin will not enter into God's kingdom because they reject the gift of Gods' dear son and count the blood of the covenant an unholy thing doing despite to the Spirit of God's grace *Hebrews 10:26-31. There is no scripture that says Gods' "seventh day" Sabbath 4th commandment has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day. This is a man made teaching and tradition of men that has lead many away from Gods' Word. JESUS is calling us out from following man made teachings and traditions back to the pure Word of God *Matthew 15:3-9; John 10:16; Revelation 18:1-5. God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth *John 4:23-24

And Paul also said that the commandments written in stone are a ministry to death-not life!

Sin includes breaking anyone of God's 10 commandments according to the scriptures in Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4; Romans 3:20 and James 2;10-11 and not believing and following Gods' Word in Romans 14:23. God's 4th commandment is one of God's 10 commandments *Exodus 20:8-11 that give us the knowledge of what sin is according to the scriptures *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7. There is no scripture that says Gods 4th commandment has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a holy day.

Of the ten commandments- 9 were carried over to th echurch. The Sabbath was not one of them.

And if you want to know th e sad truth: As James wrote anything not done in faith is sin! The church has far more commands to do than Israel ever did.

Why do you separate out the ten from the rest of the Laws God gave to Moses? are they second rate and could be forgotten in your economy? why?

IMO Paul put this argument to bed already:

Romans 14:5-9

New International Version

5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. 6 Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. 8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

Hello dear friend. Do you believe what Paul wrote? Where does it say in Romans 14 that it is talking about the Sabbath? The context of Romans 14:5 you left out is talking about eating and not eating (fasting) on days that men esteem over other days and not judging others in this regard. Romans 14 is not talking about Gods' 4th commandment Sabbath what days God esteems. The things that men esteem according to the scriptures are an abomination in Gods eyes *Luke 16:15. There is no scripture that says God's 4th commandment is now abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day. This is a man-made teaching and tradition that has led many to break the commandments of God that is not biblical that JESUS warns us about in Matthew 15:3-9 so I guess it depends if you believe Gods' Word or not or the teachings and traditions of men that have led many to break the commandments of God. Cherry picking scripture devoid of context to make a scripture say things it is not does not settle any cases or makes an excuse to sin in Gods eyes.

I think I understand your position. Just to make sure, are you saying that Romans 7 teaches that Christians aren't under the Mosaic book of the law, but at the same time, the chapter isn't denying that we're still under the Ten Commandments? If I'm misunderstanding, let me know. Thanks! :)

Hi Kilk, no, Romans 8 does, Romans 7 teaches we are all sinners while in the flesh (carnal mind or sinful human nature).

ROMANS 8:1-4 [1], THERE IS THEREFORE NOW NO CONDEMNATION TO THEM WHICH ARE IN CHRIST JESUS, WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT. [2], FOR THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS HAS MADE ME FREE FROM THE LAW OF SIN AND DEATH. [3], For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: [4], THAT THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE LAW MIGHT BE FULFILLED IN US, WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT.

same thoughts are continued in ROMANS 8:13...

ROMANS 8:13 [13], FOR IF YOU LIVE AFTER THE FLESH, YOU SHALL DIE: BUT IF YOU THROUGH THE SPIRIT DO MORTIFY THE DEEDS OF THE BODY, YOU SHALL LIVE.

and again here...

GALATIANS 5:16 [16], This I say then, WALK IN THE SPIRIT, AND YOU SHALL NOT FULFILL THE LUST OF THE FLESH.

and here where Paul says faith in God's Word establishes the law...

ROMANS 3:31 [31], DO WE THEN MAKE VOID THE LAW THROUGH FAITH? GOD FORBID: YES, WE ESTABLISH THE LAW.

Salvation is from sin not to continue in sin. If we continue in sin we are in bondage and slaves to sin and stand before God condemned “UNDER THE LAW” of breaking it (Romans 3:19-20).

1 John 3:6 [6], Whoever stays in him sins not: WHOEVER SINS HAS NOT SEEN HIM, NEITHER KNOWN HIM.

JESUS expresses the same thoughts here...

JOHN 8:31-36 [31], Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, IF YOU CONTINUE IN MY WORD, THEN ARE YOU MY DISCIPLES INDEED; [32], AND YOU SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH, AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE. [33], They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how say you, You shall be made free? [34], Jesus answered them, TRULY, TRULY, I SAY TO YOU, WHOEVER COMMITS SIN IS THE SERVANT OF SIN. [35], And the servant stays not in the house for ever: but the Son stays ever. [36], IF THE SON THEREFORE SHALL MAKE YOU FREE, YOU SHALL BE FREE INDEED.

Now try reading Romans 6, Romans 7 and Romans 8 together. There are no chapters in the book of Romans. These were added in by the translators. Romans 7 is on the living in the flesh (unconverted state) Romans 6 and Romans 8 show God's salvation from sin by Gods Grace through faith.

God bless dear friend.

Hi 98cwitr welcome and nice to meet you

Yes Hebrews 4 is a great chapter that proves God's seventh day Sabbath thanks for sharing.

Hebrews 4:9 THEREFORE IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH

As to Colossians 2:16 dear friend, did you know that there were many kinds of sabbaths in the old testament that were not God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments right? The context of Colossians 2 is to the "shadow laws" that point to JESUS and the within scripture context is to the annual Feast days of Leviticus 23. These feast days had ceremonial sabbaths that were linked directly to the Feast days that were not God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments that could fall on any day of the week. Some examples are shown here...

1. The Sabbaths of the Feast of unleavened bread (first and last day) that can fall on any day of the week *Leviticus 23:6-8
2. The Sabbath on the annual day of Atonement that can fall on any day of the week * Leviticus 23:27-32
3. The Sabbath on the annual Feast of Trumpets that can fall on any day of the week * Leviticus 23:24-25?
4. The Sabbath on the Feast of Booths that can fall on any day of the week * Leviticus 23:34-36
5. Feast of first fruits (first and last day) that can fall on any day of the week * Leviticus 23:39
6. The sabbaths (sabbaton plural) of holy convocations from the annual feast days * Leviticus 23:7-8; 21;24; 27; 35-36 that can fall on any days of the week
7. The Sabbath of the land (7 year single cycle) * Leviticus 25:2
8. The Sabbath of Jubilee - culminating of the 7x7 yearly cycles sabbaths * Leviticus 25:9-54

Both the chapter and within scripture context is to the shadow laws in the annual Feast days. The "shadow sabbaths" of the old testament are not God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments and Colossians 2 is not referring to Gods' 4th commandment but the annual shadow laws in the Feast days.

Having an interpretation that Paul is talking about the seventh day Sabbath of God's 10 commandments is not biblical and makes Paul a hypocrite as his custom was to keep the Sabbath according to the scriptures *Acts of the Apostles 17:2.

Hope this is helpful

My brother, if you wish to rest in the Lord sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, by all means find that rest. If you wish to attend worship services Saturday mornings and not Sundays, I rejoice in that. You seek to keep that which is pressed upon your heart as cherished in Love for God, and in that I am uplifted. It is pressed so firmly in fact you wish to stress it to others in gentle and firm rebukes. This is Scriptural and admirable.

Yet, if I find rest in the Lord on another day or another time, is that rest any less restful? Regardless, one day we will rest with the Lord each and every day into eternity. There shall be no more laborious and meaningless toiling, for we shall no longer hunger or thirst, but be sustained forever by God's Word.

Romans 7 makes the case that all the lost are under the condemnation of the moral law of God (just as Romans 3:19-20 makes that same case).

The moral law of God includes the commandments where "the first commandment with a promise" Eph 6:1-2 is the 5th commandment.

All mankind is condemned by that law since "all have sinned" Rom 3:23.

But Romans 7 makes the point that through the death of Christ we are freed from condemnation for breaking the commandments - and Romans 8 makes the point that the new-creation within us by the Holy Spirit enables the born-again Christian to obey God's Law.

Yet, if I find rest in the Lord on another day or another time, is that rest any less restful?

You can rest any day you like.

The question is - what does God's word actually say when it comes to the subject of a weekly day of worship and rest appointed by God?

Does it say "one day in seven is appointed for you to rest and worship God... so... pick one"?

Even the Baptist Confession of Faith Section 19 and 22 makes it clear that there is one of God's Commandments that has jurisdiction on that subject.

Hi 98,

I love the way you write here brother 98 it is very Christian and admirable and much easier to have a friendly discussion which is a great biblical example that you provide here for which I am thankful to our God.

For me personally I believe God's Word teaches that God's people are in every Church *John 10:16, but the hour has come and now is that God is calling his people out from following man-made teachings and traditions back to the pure Word of God *Matthew 15:3-9; Revelation 18:1-5. God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth according to the scriptures *John 4:23-24.

So for God's people wherever they may be dear brother, in times of ignorance when we do not know any better God winks at but when he gives us a knowledge of the truth of His Word calls all men everywhere to believe and follow what he says *Acts of the Apostles 17:30-31; James 4:17.

If however God gives us a knowledge of the truth of His Word and we reject it in order to continue in known unrepentant sin then the scriptures teach there is no more sacrifice for sin but a fearful looking forward to of the judgement to come according to Hebrews 10:26-27.

God is calling us all to have a closer walk with him. As we grow in his grace through faith *Ephesians 2:8-9 he reveals more of the truth of His Word to us through His Spirit *John 16:13. Sadly for many much of the religious teachers of the world in fulfillment of the words of JESUS in Matthew 24:24 have led many away from God and his Word to follow man-made teachings and traditions that break the commandments of God *Matthew 15:3-9.

May I ask you brother in the Spirit of God's love, do you believe if we are knowingly, breaking anyone of God's 10 commandments we sin? According to the scriptures there is no rest for the wicked *Isaiah 57:20 and this is the warning given in Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4.

God bless dear friend and thank you for sharing with us.

The covenants, sanctuary and all the Mosaic laws were because of sin and needed the blood of Christ to remedy... before sin was a thing, everything was in perfect harmony... including the sanctified and hallowed 7th day Sabbath. The Sabbath was made for mankind as a blessing, not a requirement.

The Sabbath was instituted for the nation of Israel alone in the Mosaic Covenant!

The Sabbath was created, hallowed and sanctified in Eden, thousands of years before there was ever an Israelite... it was a gift of time with our Creator that was given to onfallen man... how much more do we need it now. In the end, it doesn't matter what we think, it's what does God say...

Some questions to ponder in your personal study of the scriptures sent only in love and help. I pray that you might receive them in the Spirit they have been given. Where does it say in Romans 14 that it is talking about the Sabbath? The context of Romans 14:5 you left out shows that the subject matter is about eating and not eating (fasting) on days that men esteem over other days and not judging others in this regard. Romans 14 is not talking about Gods' 4th commandment Sabbath or days that days God esteems. The things that men esteem according to the scriptures are an abomination in Gods eyes *Luke 16:15. This scripture however, is one that many pull from context to try and make it say things it is not teaching in order to justify their man-made teaching and tradition of Sunday worship which is not biblical. The questions we should all be asking ourselves as we take the advice of Paul in 2 Corinthians 13:5 is; "who am I following; the teachings and traditions of men or God?" JESUS says in his own words if we follow the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God we are not worshiping God in Matthew 15:3-9. If we are not worshiping God then who are we knowingly or unknowingly worshiping? Something to pray about. Sunday worship has been given to us from the same people that gave is Christmas and Easter that have it's origin in the pagan traditions of sun worship. BABYLON has fallen *Revelation 14:8-12; Revelation 18:1-5. Time to leave the teachings and traditions of men and return to the pure Word of God. Those who have ears to hear will hear and those who have eyes to see will see *Matthew 13:14-16. God's Sheep hear His Voice and follow him those who do not hear will not follow *John 10:26-27

God bless.

You quoted from Leviticus 23 a number of times regarding appointed times. Did you notice who was instructed by God to obey these appointed times.

Leviticus 23:1-2
The Lord spoke again to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, The Lord’s appointed times which you shall proclaim as holy convocations—My appointed times are these."

Only 'Israel' was mentioned and no other Gentile nation, was told to observe those appointed times.

God's ISRAEL in the new covenant is no longer those born in the Flesh but those who are born in the Spirit through the promises of God *Romans 9:6-8; Romans 2:28-29, meaning God's ISRAEL in the new covenant are all those who believe and follow God's Word *John 3:16-19. There is no more Jewish and Gentile believers as all are one in Christ. *Ephesians 2:11-13; Galatians 3:28-29; Colossians 3:11. If you are not a part of God's ISRAEL you have no part in God's new covenant promise *Hebrews 8:10-12; from Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Ezekiel 36:24-27; Gentiles are now grafted in through faith *Romans 11:13-27. We are in the new covenant now dear friend not the old.

May God bless you as you seek him through his Word.
