From birth, I was born into a Christian family. As a child you dont understand and you just go on everyday playing with legos, sing "jesus loves me this I know" and pray ur nighty prayer before bed. That was it. I was baptized (around age 9-13) Attended church with family every sunday. So I was raised with a Christian family. During middle and early highschool years i didnt live like it though. Hanging around the wrong crowds, wrong acts. I got back into basketball (played when I was young but stopped) and really wanted God to help me with basketball (bless me to become a better player) so I commited my life to him as i knew that he can bless me. I think my problem was that I was looking for him only for the blessing. I changed my ways. Only for blessings. I not sure if this is wrong in front of God, and why it being wrong would make sense for all my confusion and not feeling his love or spirit. Why do WE seek God/Jesus?
We ought to seek God because we were made to know Him (
Romans 11:33; 1 Corinthians 1:5; 2 Corinthians 4:5-6, etc.), and in knowing Him to love Him (
1 John 4:14-19; Matthew 22:36-38), and in loving Him to delight in Him (
Psalms 5:11; Psalms 16:8-11; Galatians 5:22; 1 Thessalonians 1:6; etc. ), and in delighting in Him to glorify Him.
When you know God, and love Him, and enjoy Him, then you live in a way that worships and magnifies Him. Like your love of basketball. You know how to play, you really like playing and so you invest in playing, you talk about playing, you glorify basketball. God made you to do this with Him. He wants you to find Him so fulfilling, so incredible, that you can't help but sing His praises and share Him with the world. This is why you were made.
1 Corinthians 10:31
31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Matthew 5:16
16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Romans 15:5-6
5 Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus,
6 so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
19 What? know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own?
20 For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
You can only experience God fully, you can only really enjoy Him, if you live His way. And that way is the way of submission to Him (
Romans 6:13-22; James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:6) of death to Self (
Matthew 16:24-25; Romans 6:11; Romans 12:1), and pursuit of a holy, Christ-centered life (
John 15:5; Philippians 1:21; Galatians 2:20; Colossians 3:3).
