Ok first of all I love both Benny Hinn and Kathryn Kuhlman, but as a minister I've got a question concerning clothes that a minister should wear.

Look at these two verses:

Exo 28:2 And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty.

Mat 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

So, which verse do we follow today? I am guessing all ministers should dress in ordinary clothes, no "holy garments", nothing that would set them appart from others so as to "be seen of men", because Jesus said so.

But I see Kathryn Kuhlman will very "broad" sleeves on every one of her many different dresses. And I see Benny Hinn getting into the "broad" collar thing expecually on his white suit (the one with the gold ring around the collar), not to mention all his suits have his logo sewn into them with gold threed, and gold shoes!

Anyway I just figured I would throw out this question, and please understand that I like Benny, and Kathryn, I am not one of those scoffers. In fact, I got saved by Benny Hinn. But nevertheless, I want the truth about the clothes just so I'll be able to do what is right for myself.

Those are some good points. Personally I believe that mere clothes can't make a difference to your annointing or the level in which God can use you. I don't think ministers / pastors etc should wear extravegant clothing...it kinda puts over the view that they think a lot of themselves. I aggree with you that they should wear clothes like everyone else. It doesn't seem like a very humble thing to wear clothes like with Gold shoes and stuff like that. Cos Leaders are there to serve their congregations, not to reign in them. We're all equal in God's eyes, we're all special to him, we all have different gifts that he's given us, non of us should be made more special or more worthy than the other, but wearing fancy clothes can often give this impression.

Being from a Baptist background, our ministers wore suits and ties. Still, I have no problem if a denominations ministers have their leaders wear varying vestments to signify their service to the people and the Lord. It isn't my cup of tea, but this is surely not an issue I'd die for. I believe the liturgical churches that preach the historic Christian faith have a lot to offer the "free" church and vice versa. God bless, Al

I think when a minister comes before the LORD in a worship service he should wear at least a good shirt and pants and a tie. I would like to see a robe but that s up to them. I do not approve of a polo shirt and jeans.
i was on a committee at school once and we had to do a presentation for state ed. we were discussing how to dress. one person said church clothes and we all knew what he meant.
a woman I know says--you ld dress up to meet the president . does god deserve less ?

Kathryn Kuhlmann hasn't worn a dress for a long time (except the one she was buried in many years ago ;) )! My friend was one of the attending nurses during her final months before she died.

Regarding vestments: there is the liturgical vestments (alb, cassock, surplice, stole, etc.) that is common among Roman Catholics, Episcopalians, Lutherans. Among the Reformed/Presbyterian the common liturgical garb is an academic gown (ala D. James Kennedy).

The "collar" is a relatively recent innovation. I knew many Lutheran pastors (40+ years ago who wer nearing retirement at the time) who were surprised that Lutheran pastors would wear a collar. In fact, the collar was considered 'fringe' for conservative Lutherans. Now, conservative Lutherans have championed the collar as a sign of "confessional" badge. :( Who would have thought?

IMO an Orthodox outlook,

Rev 7:9 After these things I looked, and lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, out of all nations and kindreds and people and tongues, stood before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palms in their hands.

 In heaven they wear different clothing when crying out to God?  I have always thought Orthodox/Catholic used different clothing patterned after worship in the Jewish temple and heaven.  Maybe a stretch... It also robs you of your individuality you look like one of many servants of God.

You're guessing correctly. If you go to Matthew 23:7-12, neither the apostles nor any ministering brethren who came after them were to take any title to set them apart from their fellow brethren, because *ALL YE ARE BRETHREN*.

The garments of the Aaronic priesthood were *shadows* of the robe of imputed righteousness given to every believer, since all believers are King-Priests or a royal priesthood under the Divine Royal High Priest in Heaven.

There is not a single Scripture in the NT indicating that ministering brethren should appear any different than those to whom they minister. If anything, they should be simply clothed with *humility*, not the ostentatious clothing we see on many who minister publicly.
